Has there been too much bipartisanship or too little? The reward Joe Lieberman will receive today is justified by the claimed need for more bipartisanship harmony. Is it even possible to have more than we have now?

  • @derbig: take your own bait and read my letters..I have never called Glenn a racist!!

when can I expect your apology in color or black and white I do not discriminate...lol,lol,lol

  • Derbig

Has anybody gone and researched what "progressive" means in American politics? As far as I can tell, it means very little which speaks to our present political problems, and what it does mean, we don't want. There are certainly a lot of things wrong with America, but lack of progress is not one of them. Progress we got, way too much of it for me.

I can tell you what "progressive" means to me (and perhaps many others): decent, reasonable access to healthcare; a living wage; a reasonable and respectful approach to the Constitution and Bill of Rights (and by respectful, I don't mean adoration--rather, a respect for the law); a refusal to torture, render or engage in ridiculously lethal and expensive wars.

    I'll stop there.

I think the term "progressive" replaced that of "leftist" because the latter came to be associated with stuff like welfare, out-of-wedlock marriage (issues from the '70s, in other words). Dear ol' Wiki puts it this way: "Progressives see progressivism as an attitude towards the world of politics that is broader than conservatism vs. liberalism, and as an attempt to break free from what they consider to be a false and divisive dichotomy."

  • Glenn is posturing to gian some clout in the Obama white house as a progressive he really thinks he matters

but in truth Glenn is obsolete to people like Obama..Glenn's brand of being devisive no longer has any currency after jan 20, 2009..

Obama does not to engaged in the tired race theme power paradigms of obsolete liberals like Glenn..

Glenn has zero value in Obama's world and that is a good thing..It really is...

    YES WE CAN

    a festival of idiocy

    A nice use of language.

Girl Bearing Tricycle says Glenn is posturing to gian some clout in the Obama white house as a progressive he really thinks he matters

I don't know what that means but I believe it underscores your "festival of idiocy" observation.

  • Totally Uncool

GBT: "Glenn is 100% wrong on this issue and his posturing is not noble nor productive..

deal with this truth and stop trying to make me the Black Boogie man..that is a tired bit...."

    ??????

Persecution complex, much?? Or are you reading between the lines??? Personally, I don't see a black guy, let alone a guy who sees himself as the Black Boogie man, using the term "LOL":

  • Truth is Glenn is aware that in an Obama white house special interests and the usual suspects like liberals

and whinning progressives, and backward conservatives simply have zero value and currency..Obama has won he does not need the threats and posturing of losers like Glenn and a bunch of impotent selfish liberals seeking favor and thier share of the spoils..

I will repeat myself again for obama the most backward and underdeveloped folks he will encounter during his tenure in the white house will be white liberals and thier selfish demands for acknowledgment..

Our nation has evolved we do need another tired culture war driven by shallow underdeveloped folks like Glenn and his chorus of groupies..

  • I am going to enjoy every second of observing people measure up to an Obama white house

I know the liberals will have a hard time at it....lol,lol,lol

    YES WE CAN

Perhaps you should re-read your own posts here to discover why I saw overt racism in your posts.

On second thought, don't bother. You display cognitive dissonance at a level more than capable of rendering any such re-readings ineffective.

Maybe you're just a child, or a medicated adult. If so, I understand. In any case, I'll not read your posts nor respond to them again.

  • Holly - you could not be more wrong - probably about many things...

Clearly, sophistication and nuance are lost on you.

I am not at all an Obama worshipper. But I understand higher thinking, higher mindedness.

The festival of idiocy is anyone who doesn't hold your opinion - that's your own festival of idiocy.

You take the use of the word rule too archaically. But he will be the one who makes the final decisions. That is the definition of rule. Ask a judge.

Little did I know that you would take it so wrongly.

My apologies for overestimating your mind and understanding.

  • Gone By Thursday

Our nation has evolved we do need another tired culture war driven by shallow underdeveloped folks like Glenn and his chorus of groupies..

    Okay.

    Bye.

  • Wait a Minute Luminesce,

The festival of idiocy is anyone who doesn't hold your opinion - that's your own festival of idiocy.

I don't agree with this. Besides, I already praised her use of language.

  • things could get worse

Like almost everyone else who has posted or is posting here, I am disgusted by the Senate Democrats' perfidy on the Lieberman question. What a depressing day for those of us who had hoped/maybe continue to hope for a change from the last eight years. But I'd like to remind y'all that today's news did have one bright spot (for me at least) - Begich's apparent win.

  • @norm: your vision and desire to observe racism in my posts only reveal your depravity not mine

the fact the you now felt the need the to advise the room you are ignoring me only works for your ego ...

I have only posted raw truth here tonite... your desire to run for cover is a good thing...now get along...

  • You're allowed to disagree Timothy 3

We do live in a free country.

I just need to expose people's gross misunderstanding - because there's too much of it for anyone's good.

And in my opinion, it's irresponsible for Glenn to smear the future with the past and imply or infer that bipartisanship will somehow always lead to Bush-like policies, to denigrate all Democratic leadership more than they deserve, before this Administration and this new Congress has even started. These generalizations are more desructive than constructive.

Glenn should run for Senate or President, and then he can fix everything.

No hard feelings Glenn - just making a point.

It's EASY to be a critic. It's much more complicated to govern.

  • @tim3 ..I am here until jan 20, 2009....

    oh I forgot...lol,lol,lol

  • Glenn's petty attack on Obama is so nasty and tragic...

Glenn's posturing is what the Old America was under Bush ..We have turned the page with Obama ..Glenn needs to evolve and get over his petty selfish agenda..Our country is bigger than him and his petty chorus of impotent liberals..

There is a new day In America!!!!!

    YES WE CAN..

  • Give.Me.Strength.

Holly - you could not be more wrong - probably about many things...

I am not at all an Obama worshipper. But I understand higher thinking, higher mindedness.[...]

My apologies for overestimating your mind and understanding. -- luminesce

Boy, howdy!!! That's tellin' me alright! Sophistication, nuance and higher mindedness all in one wind blast of New Age gibberish!

I like Obama. I voted for him. I even like Rahm Emmanuel. But Obama's current pattern of tapping hyper-establishment Beltway types is worthy of scrutiny and criticism. The Senate's insane level of clubbiness is fair game as well.

Welcome to public discourse in a democracy, BTW. It's not half so pretty as the Renaissance Faire nirvana of your beautiful mind -- but it's fine by me.
