These senators are the members of the "we're in here for life" club, the gang who enabled FISA, a war in Iraq and the deregulation that has wrecked the world economy. What didn't happen to Lieberman today is a promise that it is business as usual. There will be no investigation of the abuses of the Bush administration because it would reveal the democrats collusion in all of it. There will be no rollback of FISA because once liberties have been taken away, no government and no president is ever going to give up the powers it gives them over the citizenry. It never happens.
Electing Barack Obama was a good thing, but if you think that it means that congress is going to change, you have to believe Washington is the same as Disney World.
We have only begun. There is a lot of work still to do! Corruption is a disease that has to be treated like cancer. Right now we are eaten up with it.
Or maybe we just don't know who "Grunwald" is.
Oomex is Omooex, Greenwald is Grunwald. I shoulda paid more attention to my cultural development.
A: More of the same from the boneheads on the hill. Lots of talk and nothing backing it up.
f**k Lieberman, f**k Harry Reid and f**k the testicularly challenged Democratic Caucus.
I'm officially an independent as of this very day.
What have you done with Grunwald, you fiend! Bring back Grunwald!
Very simply, treating a member who is disloyal to an organisation he betrayed as if he's a special member is a recipe for disaster. It provides a terrible example to other members of the organisation, essentially instructing them that betrayal is excusable. In addition, it rewards perfidy over loyalty.
Why is this so hard to understand?
No hyperbole intended - the phrase "literally deranged" springs to mind whenever this guy pops in.
Yep, the conventional wisdom has arrived on why Lieberman kept his seat, it was the savvy thing to do.

I love how later in the article they add this tidbit..
The Gang of 14 - or what's left of it, now that Republicans John Warner, Mike DeWine and Lincoln Chafee have all either retired or lost re-election bids - came into existence in the Spring of 2005 to prevent the far left and right wings of the two parties from blowing up the Senate over several of President Bush's judicial appointmentsIt's funny, I seem to remember it differently.
won't last long, so decide for yourselves if it is worth the time to address them.

Okay, but be sure to not erase the "niggra" song I posted as you're about erasing GBT's junk. It's a danged fine song.
I have to admit I don't know what to think of this. I know that I am really ticked, but it does show maturity on Obama's part to show that the campaign is over and this is one of his "can't we all just get along" moments.
I hope the Dems were at least smart enough to tell him not to campaign for any more Repubs though. They knew McCain was his lifelong friend so maybe they cut him a little slack. If he shows up in Georgia to campaign for Chambliss or help fundraise for any GOPers, the Dems will look like morons.
Being a lifelong Dem, it seems like I always wonder what the hell they are doing. Why do I have this sinking feeling in my gut that we will see 'ol Joe in the Peach State shortly??
btc3rd throws down the glove: "f**k Lieberman, f**k Harry Reid and f**k the testicularly challenged Democratic Caucus."
and f**k the sheep they rode into town on.
But what's with the "testicularly challenged" thang?? I don't think having a set of nuts, especially the much aligned-brass ones in the old nut-sack has any connection with doing the right / decent / good / moral / brave thing. Probably a little more than half of the current world population would concur.

It seems to me that an overarching reason why both sides are in lockstep is that they share a common definition of the external threats we face, and these threats are falsely perceived as existential.
--oil and corporate profits: this agenda is pushed by big donors to all campaigns
--Israel first: the Israel Lobby keeps Israel's interests ahead of those of the US, and tries to muddle the diference
--global power: the military lobby makes sure this stays on top
Look at Obama, cocooned by Rahm Emmanuel, Lieberman, and Biden, all seasoned Zionists, just in case he is tempted to stray....
Good call, but this is Tuesday, November 18th. Not Wednesday November 19th.
The training wheels don't come off the site until after Thanksgiving. ;-}
@ totallyblase
no...not literally, metaphorically.
sometimes when you have them, you have to use them, and in doing so they become exposed, but you have to take that risk. Protecting them (i.e. not using them) for the sake of the caucus is where I lose all respect.
More than half the world (methinks quite a few of the "better half") would also allow artistic license without crying sexism.
So far, we've seen nothing but a little theater since the election. No bills. No vetoes. Few appointments. Hell, a lot of folks aren't even in office yet. Was the scumbag Lieberman's kid glove treatment warranted? Not in my opinion. However, I don't understand the political calculus of Washington; and quite frankly, I don't really give a shit. The only thing that matters to me is results. The jury will be out on that one for a while.
Have the Democrats historically behaved like cowards? Sure. I find that reprehensible. But I'm equally uneasy with people who don't even wait for the next game to get started before they start criticizing the players. For example, just look at how many posters conflate Lieberman's appointment with Obama for fucks sake. He's a frickin Senator; Obama has nothing to do with it.
It is a new game. Maybe it will play out like the last game. Maybe it won't. I don't know yet, so I'm reserving judgment.
What does Lieberman's position signify? You could spin that all kinds of ways. "Democrats are cowards" seems to be the conventional wisdom 'round these parts. "Keep your enemies close" could be another. "Someday, and the day may never come, I may ask you for a favor" could be another. Who the fuck knows? Everyone here except me I guess.
You know, ripping these people a new one is pretty easy sport. I didn't read every comment, but I read a lot, and I didn't read even one that had any positive suggestions about what the Democrats (or Republicans for that matter) should be doing. Other than tearing each other apart.
Senator Hagel (R) just ripped on Rush Limbaugh recently. He said:
"You know, I wish Rush Limbaugh and others like that would run for office," a sarcastic Hagel continued. "They have so much to contribute and so much leadership and they have an answer for everything. And they would be elected overwhelmingly. [The truth is] they try to rip everyone down and make fools of everybody but they don't have any answers."
Exactly. Don't be like Rush.
