This is fantastic news. I'm glad cooler heads have prevailed. Joe stays!

It means nothing less than the tread marks across the soul of the opposition party.
Playing patty-cake with criminals and cowards isn't a way to lead, it's a way to get sucked under and drown in your own cowardice.
And to think that a neanderthal republican in this article is quoted as saying this about the potential for the Obama presidency: "More likely is a slide to socialism or, perhaps, just an inept presidency". I think that it's safe to say that IF Obama survives the racism and hatred and potential for many attacks, both physical and verbal, it will be the later that will forever brand his presidency.
Republicans have nothing to fear ironically over the Obama presidency for it already has the markings of a very moderate republican agenda and that's a hell of a lot better for the country than the hard right neo-fascistic agenda of the Bushies and light years off axis from the democrat agenda they so much fear...
Obama won't be another Carter but the democratic party core that mobilized to elect Obama may end up wishing it was only that bad...
The Obama presidency: a rest stop on the road to the complete fascistic takeover of this country. Enjoy it while the four years last... He's the best advertisement for the republican cause in years. A breath of fresh air to their party and its agenda.
Maybe the critics were right, maybe Obama is to naive to lead this or any other country.

There are great leaders. The ones who make
the masterpiece of their own personal lives.
No awards can ever ever never never offset,
bad lifestyles. Within each person ever born,
never frustrate, or willingly align with a lie.
The life:` John Milton comes to my thought.
Hope. The laudable life pursues virtues. Ay!
Be a constant guide, mentor, intend, Be you.
A purpose of birth: `To live well and Be true.
People ought to bee true Poems: said Milton.
John Milton wrote directly out of efforts, *Be*
No human lift is apt to be perfect, in entirety.
Fateful, be the burden, and perhaps, `O fatal.
A masterpiece is a true person, and beautiful.
So, I'll read again, and art is a service so great,
and the divisions can also teach, but not a end.
I mean, not a end in itself, and there are things,
many things, difficult to explain. We use words.
Glenn keeps discarding the specialist. That's it!
Do honest work each day, and @ end, O blessed.
Clearly, OS felt it was a message that would resonate and get him elected.
Has the "Change" concept been subsequently hijacked? Corrupted by the Beltway insiders? Or was it all simply cynical (oh yeah, the term is "pragmatic" when referring to OS) positioning?
How much longer do I have to give OS credit for simply being "smarter" than I am? 'Cause it sure looks like SSDD to me.
Aaaaaaaaaargh!
Right on Glenn -- you hit this one out of the park.
Don't forget the nearly unanimous bi-partisan support against impeaching any of the Bushies.
And the bipartisan support to admonish MoveOn.org.
And whatever happened to Scooter Libby?
It is annoying in the extreme, that when running for office, politician of all stripes are forced to, and generally promise "to work across party lines." For what? Don't voters ostensibly choose candidates based on party affiliation, assuming that party represents his or her views more closely? Worse, in the case of Republicans, who routinely denounce their opponents as unpatriotic and subversive, and get their way anyway, calls for bipartisanship are flat-out lies.
Democrats, on the other hand, promise and deliver bipartisanship, always producing results that favor entrenched interests, further consolidate government power, and make the political class a stranger to the nation's laws.
Basically, "bipartisanship" has become a code word for oligarchy; actually throwing a few crumbs to citizens in terms of accountability, privacy, or equality.... That's "partisan."
Telling those who voted you into office to sit down and shut up, while you join hands in holy matrimony with the other party to cement in place the venality, corruption, and delusional thinking that has gotten us into this mess.... That's "bipartisanship."
Welcome to the same-sex marriage of Joe Lieberman and Dick Cheney.
This just affirms what Noam Chomsky and Ralph Nader and others have long said: we do not have a two party system, but a one party system, featuring a party that might be called the "corporatist" party. Why keep up the pretense of a real two party system? There are probably many reasons, but certainly it serves to maintain the illusion that we are actually a democratic republic, making decisions through the synthesis of different ideas and by voting for those ideas as represented by the parties who personify them. This pledge by the Dems to seek "bipartisanship" is a necessary ruse; they gained majority in Congress in 2006 by claiming they would remove the blank check from Bush, yet they proved only too eager to give him ever more of what he wanted. Now that they have gained even greater majority in Congress, as well as gaining the White House, how else will they be able to explain to a puzzled public--eager for change--why there seems to be very little change at all? Well, because of "bipartisanship," of course! The Dems won't be like the bad Republicans and use their majority to push through reform policies they claim to stand for...why, that's tyrannical! They will work with the Republicans to craft policy that is agreeable to all!
In short, we'll get more of the same.
I know it's premature to be so cynical, and perhaps the Obama administration will actually help bring about needed reforms, but given Obama's own stated opinions and votes, not to mention some of the old Washington hands with which he's surrounding himself, I think anyone expecting significant change will be sorely disappointed and disillusioned.
Lieberman is keeping his post as it forces him to vote the way Obama and co. want him to vote. If Joe does something the democratic leadership doesn't like, Lieberman will be taken out and put in charge of trash collection in the parks.-- azathoth
Lieberman will continue his neocon ways and more than likely do
his best to cause trouble for the Obama administration.
The Dems will never be able to remove Lieberman after this no
matter what he does without The Village squealing like stuck pigs.
This was the only chance to remove the turncoat.
Lieberman will be working for the VP slot on the GOP ticket in 2012
from the get go. Palin/Lieberman? You betcha!
