Post-partisan harmony vs. the rule of law

A clear consensus is emerging: Obama shouldn't jeopardize all the important things he has to do by investigating crimes committed by Bush officials.

"And if people like Rush Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Fox News and their lowlife followers supported and passed on the "presidential" lies then they should be held accountable as well since they perpetuated the lies." -- Rusty Fender

IMO, the absolute worst thing that might happen would be to include the likes of Limbaugh, BillO, and FOX in any perceived indictment (virtual or actual) for what went on during the Bush Administration (and/or previous administrations).

To do that would only serve to confirm that a witchhunt was taking place and that the motives for said witchhunt are as political as they are claiming. Doing so would also open the door to protracted 1st Amendment claims which would deflect the public's attention away from the real problems.

If they do anything (and I don't have a lot of confidence that they will do anything substantial in this area), Obama and Congress need to exercise extreme care in this regard.

NOB

Thanks for getting back to me.

My first sentence contained this:

there were probably others in his administration that were more motivated than Bush (Cheney, Addington et. al.),

I think the two reasons you gave as motivation for Hoover could equally apply to Cheney and Addington.

I really think that most of the motivations in the Bush admin should be laid at the feet of Cheney and his staff, although by no means exclusively. To the extent that Bush, as chief executive, failed to restrain their ambitions, he is responsible for the results, irrespective of his own motives.

The anger that exists isn't remotely in proportion to the damage that was done. By trying to be disingenuous about Bush, while ignoring the main architects of this travesty, you are not being honest.

I will not be one who ignores Obama when he makes decisions I disagree with, and I fully expect him to make a lot of them. Most of the posters here who voted for Obama are not dyed-in-the-wool cheerleaders. You should know that already.

Rush Limbaugh is a criminal

Incitement to commit voter fraud and riot is Illegal. He should be prosecuted.

Friday, November 14, 2008 07:39 AM

WHO SAID IT'S OBAMA'S RESPONSIBILITY TO DO THIS?

Isn't Congresses responsibility to do this and aren't they compelled to expose illegal wrong-doing by ANY administration?

I think that the Congress can determine if laws have been broken. I don't see what Obama has to do with any of it. The White House doesn't prosecute anyone. But if laws have been broken, then someone needs to answer for it.

But, hey, yeah, I can see how spineless Democrats would want to sweep it under the rug.

Calm The Hell Down (please?)

Lately in here it has been an incubator of projection, fear, anger and cynicism. What's the matter with everybody? I take the media reports about What Obama Should Do and shrug. I mean, how much unsolicited advice is being given to the Prez Elect by every blowhard with a willing "journalist"? Do you really think Obama is listening to all this? Do you think he surfs the InterTubes all day to read what everyone is writing about him?

Doubtful.

Stop manifesting your worst nightmares and start visualizing justice and change. If enough of you are going to project your Charlie Brown/Lucy fantasy onto this administration which hasn't even taken office, just because you have been so disillusioned and betrayed in the past....well, you're all going to have that reality.

Last time I checked, it was Congress's job to prosecute people, not the President's. Let's see what the new Senate and House Majority do now that they have the reins in a real way. I'd be shocked if they swept it all under the table. I think this bullshit is being perpetrated by a fearful minority of invested jerkoffs who have a LOT to lose if these investigations get serious. I don't see Obama being owned by any of those interests -- yet.

Meanwhile, I refuse to get my lacy undies in a bundle over leaks, rumors, projection, wishful thinking, propaganda and unsolicited advice by political liars and brain dead reporters. I will wait for the real fire before I start making my sheet ladder.

Thank you for saving a lot of my time today.

Now, the only decision I have to make is to determine whether you're a Troll or just an incredibly stupid nincompoop.
