I saw a comment to an LA Times column today that indicated it's writer believed that Socialism entails not just wealth redistribution, but also that a socialist goverment must be are pro-choice and anti-2nd Amendment. How can we expect the populace to be anything other than complete idiots if the establishment media is going to feed into their frenzy?

But the charge that African American politicians are secretly socialist or somehow crazy liberals has a long history in this country, mostly unsupported by the truth. To call Obama a socialist is to reveal that you don't know what a socialist is, are a complete parrot, a racist or an idiot. Those are the only choices. Halperin has, as far as anyone can tell, never before endorsed a conservative Republican. Therefore, despite whatever misgivings he has about McCain's policies, it must be the case that race is the tipping point in his rejecting of Obama in favor of McCain.

I obviously don't know if this is in fact the case, but I'm only using the Halperin logic that endorsements ought to be viewed through the prism of race.

So anyone who acknowledges the factually and neutrally true statement that they "can't deny that it will be a historic event for an African-American to become president" but supports McCain, does so because Obama is black.

If Halperin cared about America instead of trying to find some ridiculous argument to either have something to write about or to claim there is still a horse race so that uninformed readers would still pay attention to him, he could avoid my calling him an Anti-American. • How about a goal of effective oversight of those services, and, where appropriate, modification or abandonment of programs that aren't fucking working?
• How about a goal of real rebuilding of our national infrastructure?

• How about a goal of amending the federal sentencing guidelines for non-violent drug-offenders so that they can pass a laugh test in the court of common sense?

As far as I am concerned, any truly enduring majority, of any party, is not a desirable goal. This country was not founded on the idea that we would or should agree, but that we could have a system of government in which all reasonable people would have their say. That means that ideas will change, power structures should shift over time, and sometimes, no matter how right you think you are, you are going to have to eat it.

Somebody please tell these assholes, loudly, to shut the fuck up about enduring majorities, and get back to fucking work.
