I always tend to read either the McClatchy ADN site first or Mudflats when I'm looking for a way through any muck coming out of our first babe contender.

Somehow their being closer to the story just seems to work better for me.

A friend forwarded me an email she got from a right wing acquaintance. Apparently this email is making the rounds. Let anyone with a strong enough stomach watch Hannity at 9 PM EST (It is 5:11 pm Pacific as I type this, the show will be on at 6 PM here) and report.

"tin-pot (also tinpot, tin pot), adj.

Small-time, inferior.

Typically found in the context of generals or dictators, in which case it is invariably derogatory, denoting someone whose capabilities are inferior to his rank. This is the basic meaning but in practice it's more often used in a broader sense. A tin-pot dictator would be the sort who imagines himself as being an international statesman and/or military genius, and conducts himself in a manner inconsistent with his actual (diminished) prestige outside his small realm of absolute power. These are the ones who are likely to embroil their country in military escapades outside their borders. Idi Amin might be a good example.

This -- exactly, precisely this -- is the logical and inevitable endgame when you combine at least one party without conscience with a stenographic media unable to let go of its addiction to false equivalence. When the media's Archimedean point is completely situational and determined solely by bisecting the positions of two opponents, the incentive to lie is overwhelming, and the penalty for exposure of the lie is virtually non-existent. The further from reality an unscrupulous player plants the flag, the better the result.

Glenn, when you pillory hacks like Dan Balz, this is one of the pee stains you should rub their defective noses in.

The story I read was posted on CNN.com shortly after the report was released.

The story quoted a reporter who asked: (I paraphrase here) Governor Palin, did you abuse your power when you fired Walt Monegan? She replied that the report had shown no abuse of power or ethics violates or broken laws. "You got to read the report."

Based on this report from CNN, her answer was correct.

I have since read other reports, both here and at CNN.com, which contain falsehoods on the part of Palin. The original report I was citing is no longer available at CNN.com.

After a thorough search of my browser's history, the only link I have points to the updated report, without any reference to the actual wording of the reporter's question.

Based on the now-missing article I read on Saturday, Palin was not lying outright. But since that article is missing, there is no longer any basis for my previous statements.

Based on the current information, she is lying.

I seriously doubt that anything from Faux News will change one vote.

All the better to distance ones self from an embarrassingly feeble allegation regarding non-existing "lynch mobs". As for Palin, Would anyone like to explain what it was that Palin got out of the deal? How was SHE benefiting from this? One can certainly argue that her family was the beneficiary of an effort to can Wooten, but Palin?

There's no doubt that it was a dastardly lie of biblical proportions to say there was no finding of wrongdoing. It is only a miracle of fates that the earth didn't stop spinning and all things on it didn't fly off into space.

It's not like she got money from Fannie and Freddie like Dodd, or is being investigated for mob bank ties, like Obama, or had a lover run a brothel of his house like Frank. No, Palin committed the unforgivable sin of protecting her sister from a not very nice guy. Obviously there is no punishment too harsh for such a transgression of the public trust. Maybe you guys should put together a lynch mob. Heh.
