"Clinton lied under oath...."

I'm trying to determine when, exactly, Clinton was convicted of "lying under oath". As I recall, Clinton was acquitted during the impeachment trial in the Senate of that spurrious charge. A Senate constituted with a Republican majority, I might add.

You see, just "saying" someone "lied under oath" doesn't necessarily make it "so".

Better to say: "I hated Clinton, and everything he stood for, and in my uneducated opinion, he lied under oath!"

Let's strive for accuracy here, folks.

If you believe this stuff, then you live in a more skewed fantasy world than shooter does. Read <http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/multimedia/timeline/9809/starr.report/grounds/g1.htm> and come back when you can discuss the matter intelligently. And keep in mind that, in addition to the Starr report, Clinton admitted having an "improper" relationship with Lewinksy which is what he denied under oath. But he said he didn't lie because "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is." You can believe that or not as you wish, but I'm not sure that even Clinton believes it any more.

While it is true that Clinton was never convicted of "lying under oath", lying under oath is not a crime unless it is perjury. One of the elements of the crime of perjury is that the lie has to be material with regard to the matter being testified to. Little white lies told under oath that do not touch on a material matter do not constitute perjury. See 18 USC 1621. Lying under oath may be unethical, but it is not eo ipso a crime. And if Clinton believed that his highly parsed testimony was in fact technically true, then it isn't perjury either.

And since you seem to be confused on the matter, impeachment, for all the courtroom trappings, is not a judicial procedure, but a legislative one. And conviction requires the vote of two-thirds of the senators present. So which party controls the Senate is irrelevant unless they happen to have a 67 member supermajority.

Let's strive for reality, confused canine.

(Oh, it is so nice to be back below the Mason-Dixon line.)

Um, I think you just proved everyone's point with this statement. Below the Mason-Dixon line where the men are men and the "Nigra's" are scared. Right?

We should be fair to our poor relations down south, Pathman25.

As I noted earlier, they do have nice architecture down there.

Pity that's their own redeeming quality.

Iokannan

Very true about the architecture. Now who were those able bodied folks that did all that labor, again? As sh@@ter would say. heh.

Reality Chex

This is a good series of posts on the Troopergate report. Of course Palin has made it worse today, even claiming that calling Wooten a "rogue" was "not negative" & repeating her assertion that she came out smelling like a rose in the report. I would really like shooter or any other troll to tell me

What is it that you like about McCain? If, as the Republican talking points say, Obama has done "nothing" and has no "executive experience", then that would apply to McCain, Obama and Biden. What about McCain's message do you like? What is his message?

Do you support McCain? Are you proud of how he's run his campaign? How is Palin even remotely qualified to be President? Do you REALLY think she's smart? Do you REALLY think she's qualified to be president - which is not out of the realm of possibility?

That's all I want to know. From Shooter or any other 'troll'. Anyone? And don't turn your answer around to "Obama's not this or that." Just stick to the question.

I honestly want to know.

JCourt

Good question. Sadly, these are exactly the people who won't tell you, certainly not truthfully. That's not what they do.

Of course you didn't, Governor, of course you didnt! . . .

McCain Will Lose Because of Davis

I had only read of Rick Davis until I saw the Fox News shout-fest with David Axelrod.

Geez! Is it any wonder that the McCain campaign is failing so miserably? Once again, McCain has shown to have incredibly lousy judgement (ie. Palin) by hiring a complete ass like Davis to run his campaign.

I almost feel sorry for the folks who have to work with that jerk.

Hey Glenn...

...I usually enjoy your work, but if she has done anything as heinous as you claim she has, then let the Alaska courts deal with her, not you and the punditry.

I do not get the liberal media's obsession with this woman...why the endless digging for dirt, trying to find every tidbit of evidence to point out what a bad mother she is (strange for people who claim to care about women), what a bad Governor is, what a wolf-murderer she is...it seems that there is an inordinate desire to reduce her to a stereotype, to a caricature...when the right wing attempts to do this to Obama, it is met with vitriol and outlandish and patently false claims of racism, meant to shut down any kind of criticism of him whatsoever.

This obsession with Palin resembles the crazed response Hillary got for having the temerity to dare question Obama's credentials...what is it with the left that they seem to want to vilify a woman who doesn't fit the orthodoxy of the way a woman is suppose to behave: be pro-choice, hate guns, hate the war, etc., etc. Unfortunately for the many on the left, some women refuse to be pigeon holed, as do blacks or gays, to regurgitate the talking points the left feeds them. Stray from them, and you are self-hating, or worse. Any true progressive would recognize that one should be free to express oneself and not be judged for those views, a lesson that has been sorely lost on so many this year.
