John McCain's unprecedentedly ugly speech today The increasingly petty and ugly attacks on Barack Obama by a desperate, dying movement are a microcosm of the last eight years.

What's most amazing, is how eager the mainstream media is to regurgitate these catchphrases. The phrase was repeated about ten times on Gregory's show today. It could hardly be characterized, objectively, as "taking the gloves off". What a silly euphemism for lying and rumor mongering.

One thing I did here on that show, however, today that made me laugh was a Huffington Post wonk, who rejiggered McCain's famous "special place in hell for those who engage in negative attacks" comment. Yes, there is a special place in hell for those people, and its apparently in the McCain campaign, where all the operatives who waged those tactics for Bush are now working.

  • Bad statistical analysis

Glenn, I have to correct your statistical analysis. Sarah Palin's "Unqualified" rating changed only 1%, which is very small. That's within the margin of error of most polls, including this one. Her "Qualified" rating increased by 4%. I'd hardly say it was a debacle for her.

The changes to the responses on Palin are so small we can conclude that the debate hardly changed anyone's mind about her. The increases in Biden's "Favorable" and "Qualified" ratings, however, are significant. The results show that the debate was a big benefit to the Obama/Biden campaign.

They're clearly going full-blast with their twin-pronged attack campaign against Obama and Democrats, which consists of blaming Dems and their bounbless love for shiftless blacks and illegal aliens for the mortgage meltdown, and painting Obama as a far-left America-hating exotic stealth Muslim terrorist radical. None of this should come as any surprise to anyone who's been paying attention to how the GOP, and McCain, operate (even though he's been better at hiding this for much of his surprisingly unimpressive legislative career).

I've been more focused on the former line of attack, which has been going on for nearly two weeks now, and have put up a few short videos on YouTube showing how they've employed their surrogates to spew this nonsense in typical talking points lockstep dissembling fashion.

    Sunday's Washington Journal on CSPAN:

George Will on Sunday's This Week on ABC:

And, somewhat unrelated, but just to show how insane McCain appears to almost literally be at this point, here's a very short clip of him on Morning Joe last week, rambling incoherently:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGCK_379l6w

Finally, a clip from the PBS News Hour last week in which a lifetime Florida Republican states his disgust with today's GOP and anyone who supports them in unambiguous manner:

  • My Point Exactly

From Josh Marshall (link at sig):

So we have McCain today getting his crowd riled up asking who Barack Obama is and then apparently giving a wink and a nod when one member of the crowd screams out "terrorist."

And later we have Sarah Palin with the same mob racket, getting members of the crowd to yell out "kill him", though it's not clear whether the call for murder was for Bill Ayers or Barack Obama. It didn't seem to matter.

These are dangerous and sick people, McCain and Palin. Whatever it takes. Stop at nothing.

Rest assured, there is no insider joke to be had. And, there is no precise translation. No English-GC! dictionary to consult. No Rosetta Stoneā„¢ software by which to practice.

It's like very higher order math that leaves you drowning in Greek symbols. No one really understands that stuff; it just becomes comfortably familiar (J. vonNewmann - I think).

So you read, and puzzle, and read, and puzzle some more, and then, gradually, it all begins to make a perfect sense. It is internally coherent; which is a great deal more than some can say about what they write here. And, it is coherent over time. What was written two weeks ago is consistent with what will be written tomorrow.

It's up to individual readers how much effort they care to sink into understanding. GC! leaves it all up to the individual. He's neither offended nor pleased, either way. But, know that many of us are quite happy we made the effort, and are grateful for his presence.

Glenn, I have to correct your statistical analysis. Sarah Palin's "Unqualified" rating changed only 1%, which is very small. That's within the margin of error of most polls, including this one. Her "Qualified" rating increased by 4%. I'd hardly say it was a debacle for her.

I didn't say the debate was a "debacle" for her. The point is that many in the GOP -- including Frank Luntz -- were claiming that the reaction to her performance would be so strong that it would change the face of the election. Plainly, that did not happen. If anything, the amount viewing her as unqualified increased -- just as I put it -- "slighty" (and your statement that "Her "Qualified" rating increased by 4%" is mistaken; it only increased 2% (from 40 to 42%)).

  • 72 years flushed down the drain

72 years of claiming to be a man of honour and McCain flushes even a semblance of decency down the drain in 6 months.

It makes George Bush's treatment of John McCain in the 2000 Republican candidates campaign look quaint and almost civilized.

John McCain should apologize to George W. Bush now that he has sunk far below him in terms of common civility.

No, your whole argument is not shot down, but that's just my opinion. I believe in my liver--and have the evidence to prove it to anyone with a 10% open mind--that political assassinations were used in the Sixties and carried out by criminal and governmental agencies in the U.S. Hell, you can read court evidence and the verdict of the King civil trial in Memphis.

Evidence is not the point. Credibility is.

Others might look at one such egregiously false statement as casting doubt on your other statements, too. And that's where we lose.

In regards to your other follow-up posts, don't get sucked into emotional tits for tats. Stick to the facts and the evidence. There's beaucoups of money being paid to lots of people out there to be on these sites and say who knows what.

Are you a parent? I am. And at this point I don't know and don't think about *if* America will wake up to its deep politics and deep history, which includes political assassinations, election theft and false flag terrorist attacks.

As a parent, I don't have a choice but to try my best to get out the truth. Don't let anyone take that purpose from you.
