You see it as the end of the right wing movement in its current form; I see it as a continuation of it, maybe even the begining of a new phase, uglier than what came before. Would many of those people be cheering any less loudly if McCain was calling for an aggressive war in the M.E.? Maybe not, but only because it would be politically unpopular -- the morality of it wouldn't enter in the calculation. Today, they are willing to cheer when the American-born Obama is called a "terrorist;" do you think they'd stop cheering if there was a movement to force, say, muslims, to register themselves, or wear the equivalent of yellow stars? Maybe some of them would lose their enthusiasm, but many would not. Many people in that audience wish McCain was more ugly, more extreme. You see the end; I see the seeds of Nuremberg, 1927. Maybe those seeds won't sprout -- but they are there, just waiting for some water and a little sunlight.
Rats are most dangerous when cornered. Rats give everybody the plague.
A colleague told me that his 7-year old daughter came back from school, asking - Is it true that Obama will end Christmas?
And this is in safely-blue New Jersey. I wonder what is circulating in the bright-red states?
I fear what people with such a visceral hatred of Obama will do.
We are now seeing the REAL John McCain. A nasty, angry old white guys who does not like the fact the a black man is raising in the polls. You cannot convince me that McCain is not a racist. His condescending remarks reek of it. Obama needs to win this elction big and beat the ass, McCain and by big numbers. Ity' timne to stop these right extremist in their tracks once and for all.
What has happened to John McCain? Has he completely lost it? I am starting to have serious concerns about his thinking ability...is it possible senility is beginning? Or does he just want this election way too much? Either way, it is very sad to see a man who used to command respect sink to such despicable lows?
Anyone paying attention to the 2000 elections would have understood the truth about McCain's character back then. But better late than never.
Save Democarcy. If you are not already involved in Obama grass roots movement do it now. This is the time undecided voters make up their minds. You can help by doing GOTV for Obama in swing states, from your own Blue state.
Watch McCain's speech today and you will see only one thing: the behavior of cornered rats.
Hard to find the right note. cornered rats is good. But in my minds eye, I see not a desparate rat, but rather a rabid dog. reckless, foamy, oblivious.
Get off your asses and make it happen. Walk down the street. Do you care about this country or about your clever repartee?

@ Kitt and GC,
I guess the only thing worse than commenting on the very real (IMHO) threat of an Obama assassination would be to respond to such comments, thereby ensuring further discussion. No?
Personally, I prefer to exercise the freedom to think and speak freely, and I assume this is a forum where I can do that.
You might argue that this is irresponsible speculation, but the modern USA has a very sad history of political assassinations which simply cannot be ignored.
Nor should we ignore the Bush family's roles in some of these assassinations:
1. George H. W. Bush was working for the CIA when JFK was shot. He had dinner with a shady group of characters the night before the shooting. The CIA conspired to keep the truth from the US people, and Bush became head of the CIA.
2. Bush forced himself onto Reagan's GOP ticket, even after Reagan warned that Bush was part of a "dangerous" cabal of bankers and businessmen whose purpose was to take over the USA. Shortly thereafter, a "lone gunman" tried to kill Reagan. The gunman had dinner with Neil Bush the night before. And who was in charge of the official enquiry which (within 24 hours, no less) found no evidence of conspiracy? George H. W. Bush.
These are very dangerous people, and the McCain camp is firmly aligned with them. Expect the worst as they desperately try to cling to power.
I am no big fan of Obama's, but I have huge respect for the courage he shows every time he steps out in front of a crowd. Hopefully US citizens will also have the courage to face up to some very ugly truths about their country.

Obama should:
1. Point out this is what happens when a campaign is running on 4 more years of a presidency that is going to be remembered as the worst in American history ... character attacks are McCain's only hope
2. If McCain wants to start blaming Obama for the economic meltdown he's a fool. Obama should be bringing up in every speech McCain's role in the Savings and Loan scandal, and that the current economic mess is an extension and outgrowth of that bailout in the 90s.
.Goshdarnit. Bygolly we're all about the future dontchaknow !*wink*
Nothing like consistency, to bring in the votes, eh? ;)
Re the Ayers stuff, the logical conclusion is that nobody can redeem themselves, ever .
As for Wright , I have a question , that noone ever seems to explain. "Goddamn American....when it kills innocents "(the part that tends to be forgotten/left out)
