John McCain's unprecedentedly ugly speech today The increasingly petty and ugly attacks on Barack Obama by a desperate, dying movement are a microcosm of the last eight years.

  • Stick to the facts -

Palin MORE THAN DOUBLED TAXES on Alaskan oil production causing a severe decline in production. She used the $6 billion in new taxes to triple the "profit sharing" check paid to every Alaskan - including over $11,000 to her own family.

McCain wants to increase our reliance on nuclear energy. 92% of the uranium used in civilian power plants is IMPORTED - 32% is imported from RUSSIA.

Decreasing oil producrtion and increased dependence on Russia for our energy.

    Is that good policy??????

  • Except for two noticeable exceptions, Glenn . . .

The near-total lack of coverage in the mainstream media about:

    1. Stolen elections

    2. the official cover up of the 9/11 attacks

When we ask ourselves how it ever got this bad in eight years, I implore you, Glenn, to look beyond failed ideological and political tactics to the criminal rot in our voting system and in our national failure to examine (at least to the same extent as Europe, Russia and Japan) what really happened in the elections of 2000 and 2004; and what really happened on 9/11.

What will it take for the blabbing to stop and for the truth to be confronted?

The battle we are in has less to do with failed ideology and much more to do with our fellow citizens drowsing in the false comfort of American exceptionalism.

  • Lard, I hope so too...

    jamiso. Arabic? sizzle. cookin' `hate.

    Arabic? I don't. Barooooooo! `Arabic?

    Pigeons. Soooooo, soooooo, if flushd.

    What pomp, false glory, `Despicable.

    Serious. Mental crackup? Maybe fatal.

  • @TomRitchford

thanks...and read my post at 2:39. This is serious sh*t.

    Nuf said.

  • ...And what if they win?

What if McCain/Palin somehow do win this election?

What would happen to those who "opposed" them? The rhetoric from the far-right is starting to, imo, obtain a certain fascist/nationalist fervor to it. It isn't quite there yet, but it seems like it is approaching that level. They are charging the left with being un-patriotic, coddling/associating with terrorists, hating America, , etc, etc, ad naseum.

I guess my point is...if somehow the Right does pull off this election (say, with the help of Diebold), and if their "movement" is in its death throes, do you think we may end up seeing actual movement on the ground as follow-up persecution against the left by those now enabled by a McCain victory? One last attempt to revive the NeoCon / Right movement through actual action on the ground...and in the form of fascist-style activities?

Basically...would the right follow-up their own invective with illegal action against those they are claiming are "anti-American"? Anytime before this...I would probably say "no". This time, I kinda believe they might.

  • Health insurance covers mental health care now, right?

I believe that the 28 - oops, no, 26 - oops, now it's 24 - percent of the American public who continue to support Dubya are mentally ill. How else to explain their blind, positively slavish, certainly unthinking dedication to the man who has succeeded in bringing America to its knees?

And John McCain has willingly embraced the crazies, the fanatics, and the greedy who enabled him. Today's rant makes manifest McCain's volatility, self-absorption and willingness to "destroy the village in order to save it."

If Obama gets under his skin at tomorrow night's debate, I can imagine McCain succumbing to apoplexy. If you're going to the debate, don't sit in the front few rows - you're gonna get sprayed by McCain's spittle as he foams at the mouth.

  • ProGrocker

there is going to be a...attack before the election.

In general, I am doubtful of the Oct. theory, but a few things give me pause.

First, a former bureau agent and former high-ranking homeland guy told me several weeks ago that he suspects an event before the election.

Second, A.G. ("the American a-Q") was thought to be dead in early September, but he recently released a time-referenced tape that included statements by A al-Z.

Third, I think the financial crisis caught Republicans off-guard and also helped Obama's poll numbers. Only another crisis of epic proportions can shift focus away from the ever-tanking economy.

So, will your prediction happen? Perhaps, though a bio vehicle is what CT experts fear next.

  • @Dim Bulb, the undead

"I DO have a valid vote I intend to use..."

Good. Please use it to vote yourself off of our island. Thank you.

  • Arabic.

`Har kalarshi' It means "welcome" in Arabic.

He said that with a web of wrinkles on a face.

He had a hawklike nose, and was aged. fade?

He never would, said to shivering war invaders.

  • @GoodCelery

I honestly have no idea what that is.....

can you explain? I see those post every once and a while. They are kind of "poemish", but I never get them, feel like I'm missing out on the joke

  • Obama is playing it right, playing it cool, Dukakis is wrong

The reason Obama won the Pres. debate, and Biden won the V.P. debate, and their poll numbers are rising, is because they're adults. Obama's staying above the fray as McCain muddies himself further.

McCain sneers about associations, Palins mocks him, then there are plenty of people out there that show McCain's and Palin's are comparable or worse. Obama responds that McCain is looking erratic. I think that's devastating, even if less flashy than Obama attacking. Obama's camp doesn't even have to do it, the liberals are energized and are fully capable of using "the google".

  • Disgraceful

It's like they're almost openly courting the skinhead vote.

Compare what the secretary for the Buchanan County Republican Party wrote with propoganda distributed by right-wing Aryan hate sites and you won't see much difference.

This another reason why the Republican Party is dying. It's crap like that that works completely against the changing demographics of the country. They might be able to get away with it a time or two longer, but their days are numbered and they know it.

  • huh. glorified bloater.

Well, bite my lip. Hush. okay. huh.

Who said? I don't understand them.

    People don't understand me. ingles.

Why we no understand it sometimes?

People gibber. People say Nothing. O.

    O.By the way, and`It don't mean notin'!

  • Please go to your local campaign headquarters

I have been doing it for the last two weeks, going out every night canvassing. They give you addresses to call on, it's about 2 hours work per night. They also have positions in the office (apparently hard to fill) for workers to do, cold-calling local phone numbers, which is apparently a nasty assignment; I'm going to give it a shot. I'm scared, but this election really matters.

One thing I've found with the undecided which really works, is to suggest that if McCain were elected, it would be the same team of behind-the-scenes money and lobbying interests who have brought us to this point: IN office AGAIN! Really, I am amazed how easily so-called Republicans are able to hear that.

There is a slight holding onto the "Terrerists will kill us" mindset; you know you're beat there when someone tells you that. Just smile and tell them thank you for giving me some time. They know the deal.

I beg you all to get involved. You would be surprised at what your neighbors know, and what they don't know. And you would be surprised at how your neighbors just want to connect with someone, THEIR neighbors.

This is important, get involved like you never have before.
