John McCain's unprecedentedly ugly speech today

The increasingly petty and ugly attacks on Barack Obama by a desperate, dying movement are a microcosm of the last eight years.

    @normbreyfogle--The Fix Is In

    normbreyfogle said:

    you write as if the Reps and the Dems aren't in collusion, when in fact the exact opposite has been proven to be true over and over and over again.

    If you're talking about the Pelosis and Hoyers of the world...I can't argue there. These jokers are facilitators of the FISA and Big Business Bailout legislative tragedies, among many others. I don't believe there's a coordinated plan between the parties, however, to get Obama in the White House.

    Sure, they can work with Obama, and probably corrupt and blackmail him enough to achieve their ends--indeed, he's their fallback guy. But McCain would be so much easier to deal with. He's aching to get this fascism thing into its final stages.

    The wildcard, of course, is the small group of true progressives (Kucinich, Wexler, Leahy, Sanders, et al.) who threaten the plan. You know, the ones who still believe in a little thing called democracy.

    I agree with Glenn that the Democrats represent the *only* chance to divert our march toward a full-blown corporatist regime. Get Obama into office, throw out a significant number of Blue Dogs, and coerce the wishy washy Dems into a true progressive stance, a la Kucinich/Wexler, who--despite the "they're too radical!" rhetoric--clearly represent the will of the majority in America.

    I think there's a huge incentive to avoid an Obama presidency because of the above scenario. The PNAC guys don't fear him as much as they fear the progressives who will force Obama to bend to their will.

    McCain MUST win. How best to make that happen? Scare people! Knock them down a few notches on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Force them into "reptilian brain" mode. Who's going to keep us safe?

    Let's see...half-black, ex-druggie, coulda-been-a-Black Panther, has-a-name-like-a-terrorist Obama

    Or

    Grampa War Hero?

    There absolutely HAS to be a big scare for McCain to win. Maybe they've trotted out one too many bin Laden videos...I don't know. Maybe a false flag event will be too risky. But it is tried and true. If the Republican operatives know anything, they know terror. I don't think they'll be able to resist.
