I'm trying to get used to the 'new Apple keyboard' after my original keyboard got too symptomatic to use.
It's hard to retrain an old canine with a new repertoire. Thank Ford that Firefox has a spell checker...
The judge in this case, I'm sure, will get a pat on the back, an 'attaboy', the love and respect from the goody goodies and a lifetime on the right wing lecture circuit and there will be much gnashing of teeth and lighting of torches when the case is eventually overturned on appeal.
What's the use of 'button issues' if you don't have a sideshow to distract the idiots that you pander too.
A reminder that there are few friends for free speech.

no shit ! ! ! but, (here's the really uncomfortable part) *MOST* pwogwessives and their websites (including here *gasp*) do NOT 'believe in' NOR PRACTICE Free Speech...

Please send more copies of the Constitution to the White House

say, parson, do pwogwessives have any obligation to honor the constitution and the concept of Free Speech, or are they exempt, 'cause -you know- they are the Good Guys and only CENSOR for -you know- Good Reasons ? ? ?
ho ho ho
We have many (not a few here) that can see the control freak nature of the opposition, but not the control freak impulses of their own. They need your help there ol' sage of the net. (no, that was not sarcasm)
If all people were adults and all agreed to do these acts then the constitution protects their right to do so as does any rational idea of liberty. It may be stupid; it may be sick; it may be repulsive: but it is legal in a free country.
-- heru-ur
geezie peezie, don't i know how repulsive so-called pwogs find Free Speech to be ! ! ! you are richtig on the kontrol freak aspect: *MANY* faux progressives WANT an authoritarian regime, it is just that they want THEMSELVES (you know, the Good Guys) to be the authoritarians, NOT the (you know) Bad Gus ! ! !
ha ha ha
This IMHO is the kind of "stuff" that separates the true advocates of what freedom is really all about versus the pablum we "think" represents freedom. Further, the real shame of it all, as I see it, is that most people would probably go crazy with the desire to imprison this guy or just plain crucify him. Which says a whole lot about how much people understand about freedom of expression.
Glenn, my hat's off to you sir! If Salon.com had a "Fearless Freedom Warrior" award I'd nominate you.

oopsy daisy, if saloon.com had a 'Practice What You Preach' award in regards to the constitution and Free Speech, gee gee would definitely NOT be a nominee...

Secondarily, he is strong on free speech issues, and likely would never feel comfortable with any kind of censorship conviction. On the other hand, I don't think he would raise an eyebrow at rape or assault charges. Frankly, I tend to agree.
Canuckistan Bob
really ? "strong on free speech issues" ? really ?
does that involve ACTUALLY PRACTICING Free Speech, or just speechifying real good about abstract Free Speech ? ? ?
but, you know, i'm confused and delusional...
People here obsess over who is in power and who is not precisely because we know that the law is always defined by the powerful. Since when have the powerless ever had any say in things?
acheybreaky
true enough... and the CENSORS make the laws (sic) around here, and we are powerless otherwise...
but we call that Free Speech 'cause hypocritical pwogs close their eyes real tight when looking in the mirror...

The U.S. army has released a new version of its Field Manual for Stability Operations. The announcement in the Washington Post:
The Army on Monday will unveil an unprecedented doctrine that declares nation-building missions will probably become more important than conventional warfare and defines "fragile states" that breed crime, terrorism and religious and ethnic strife as the greatest threat to U.S. national security.
All countries have crime, terrorism and religious or ethnic strife of one kind or another. So what states are fragile? Look at the first sentence of the introduction to the field manual:
Today, the Nation remains engaged in an era of persistent conflict against enemies intent on limiting American access and influence throughout the world.
Have we sunk so low that any country "intent on limiting American access and influence throughout the world" is now an enemy? What about individuals? I am damned intent on limiting the evil empire's reach and influence around the world
The Army is seeking to justify "intervention" in form of "stability operations" under the pretense of "instability" whenever and wherever it wants to intervene.
Perpetual intervention for perpetual peace in a slight deviation from the old formula.
Also included was this:
"This is the document that bridges from conflict to peace," said Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, commander of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where the manual was drafted over the past 10 months. The U.S. military "will never secure the peace until we can conduct stability operations in a collaborative manner" with civilian government and private entities at home and abroad, he said.
At home! Did Glenn not do a recent post on this?
