  • @Pedinska - and the Palin folksiness is BS

I "come from" the heart of the midwest, flyover country, and Miss "You betcha, I'm so folksy!" isn't fooling anyone, least of all women like me who went to school with her type, the vacuous, yet vicious cheerleader who would 'wink' at you while you faced her, then stab you in the back as soon as you turned..

Check out this entry from Andrew Sullivan's blog. You can listen for a while at Sarah-baby debating back in 2006. No "you betchas" or "doggones" thrown in there back then.

    http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/10/palin-on-benefi.html

She is the GOP showgirl. Doing her pseudo-folksy can-can.

The verb-emptied sentences were already part of her style back then, though.

  • GOP at fault

Yep, the Republicans have been in charge and will take the blame for the sagging economy. It is an occupational hazard of those holding power. So it really doesn't matter who's truly at "fault" although I suspect a more reality-based analysis would find the issue somewhat more complicated.

  • Don't Expect Much Better From the Democrats

None of those whores have the balls to take on the moneyed interests.

    No F.D.R.'s in this generation.

  • Stupidity & GOP Rule

What Glenn has written is correct, but can't go far enough.

The GOP propagandists and fellow travelers are not the problem, the passivity of the American people is the problem.

Shambles under GOP rule is right.

Lowlites: Attacked on 9/11; Iraq War; Katrina; Resurgent Taliban; "Financial Crisis"

Today, a reasonable reading of the polls shows Obama likely to win in November. Likely?

What more has to happen before people march in the streets demanding Bush's, Cheney's etc.. heads? And mean it?

How shall one measure the devastation this government has wrought on us? Dollars? Lives?

No, let's sit back and blog.

  • Good example:

tired GOP attack ads to depict Obama as a radical, fist-pumping, America-hating, unhinged socialist -- when everyone can see with their own eyes that he isn't -- won't change any of that

You're right about that. Rather, Obama is a well-heeled, well-dressed, very polite, very articulate and very wealthy socialist, who is more than happy to foist the failures of his top corporate donors (Goldman Sachs and Lehman Bros in the top five as of 2006) onto the taxpaying public.

  • And .....

They know who butters their bread.

Too bad americans didn't take a serious interest in campaign finance reform when they had a chance.

  • Cosmo

Santa will come down my chimney before Ron Paul gets an electoral vote, get with the program for the next thirty days and build your party and candidate up for the next election. Anything else is just bitter rumination.

  • A good analysis...

...but I would substitute the word "slightly" (or similar) for the word "infinitely" in the following:

As polling data conclusively demonstrates, the mindset of the voting public is infinitely more rational and substance-based than the pundits and the Right fantasize when they lyrically praise the Regular American...

  • -- Cosmo Guzzardi

Obama is not a socialist ......... hell he is not even a liberal ....... let alone a progressive.

Things have shifted so far to the right in this country, that the meanings of such terms have also changed.

FDR would be considered a communist today.

I would not hesitate to say Obama is Republican Lite with democratic speaking "points".

But then what in the hell do people today know beside the viewing schedule for American Idol and Dancing With the Stars.

  • @Pedinska

You've got a burr under your saddle about Sarah, don't you?

I detect very little ambiguity in your remarks.

I hear a clarion call from Ohio.

    Sounds real good ...

Shorter cosmo guzzardi: Elect John McCain and Sarah Palin!

  • omooex

Of course you're right; Dr. Paul is no longer even running, officially. He did the right thing and decided to defuse his candidacy before it become about one single man. Now it is about a movement to change the entire political paradigm.

We are preparing to do serious work immediately after the election. Dr. Paul held a press conference to endorse four "third-party" candidates: Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr, Ralph Nader, and Chuck Baldwin.

This is no longer about stale ideological divisions between "right" and "left." I am 30 years old, and my generation has no interest in perpetuating the "culture war" madness wrought by the Vietnam War. We got our own problems, and we're beginning to be ready to speak with one voice. There is still a lot of work to do, and discourse that needs to occur.

I might be unbearably idealistic to some, but I'm not that naive.

  • Well, good cosmo

I would like to see some viable third party candidates emerge in the coming years and you're right, Ron Paul had become, like Nader, personalities rather than champions of movements. You can't build a movement by embuing the entire platform into one person. Especially when they are in their seventies...

  • New Talking Point

I like being able to answer these tough questions without the filter, even, of the mainstream media kind of telling viewers what they've just heard.

Anyone in the MSM who asks a pointed question, or follows up by reiterating the question after being given a load of dung for an answer, is now a "filter".

Give me filters. Loads of them. Because we've been literally gagging on the chunks of feces being flung by the Old Timer/End Timer candidacy (h/t to a commenter somewhere whose name now escapes me).

    Bumper sticker suggestion:

Vote Old Timer/ End Timer 'cause havin' a beer with a dry drunk just wasn't enough!

  • The meme should be taking responsibility

and for the republicans to blame someone else, or to attempt to recast themselves, is the height of irresponsibility.

  • "A country in shambles".... and look who is grabbing the steering wheel... ?... Close eyes. Wish I'd stayed outdoors. O well. at the wheel?

... "fitness for office"... a angler hooks whopper sardine in cans.

Those Not so renowned physicist? Physical health nut enthusiast?

I give up. The same sour mobsters who sell old moldy fruitcakes?

It may as well be the NASCAR advertiser CEO's from Dizzy Lands.

A fir-skin ape driving 120-mph backwards a canoe with paddles?

Hoodlums. Blindfolded, and chomping with greased paws, grasping bribes from YKW. While gorging on KFC, the chicken skin, wings, bones, and the cardboard bucket too? What a crew?

Paws are Not on a car steering wheel, but their paw-thumbs are poking their bleak 2-eyeball out! And when they are Not pumping the slippery clenched-fist, oh, huh heehaw-huh. Who is this messy, full such stupidity crew?

Woe. The glorified Regular Voters do Not drive with two-boney knees. Nor do they grab the steer cow horns, or chew star burst candy if driving a vehicle.

The same 'shooting stars' who got the greasy paws are makers-of-messes? Cubby pals are dog lovers of Kennel America, and hang around with the paws out? Up there on Caital Hill, they do what? No wonder a honorable person dare walk up that hill.

Who is up there looking gaunt, pale, and deathly, up on Capital Hill?

The same-same pony and dog show. The muggers are giving the garden lover tourist guides. The blind-dog with blinders, CEO's plea for increases in their allowances again!

Everybody knows the batch only entice lice and fleas. Offspring will inherit blood `$`!

It's a fact. The ones who inherits filth money are destroyed by the cash-dough. Bad move.

The money will ruin those with zilch backbone. Serious. O. It's rare person who inherits dough and is already endowed with a virtue strong enough to Not be fast ruined by dirty lucre.

I say, `Give money away to the honorable people who have a benevolent nature. A wise steward... benevolent.

    Wow. wow, bow wow.

    ~

Itching, all the way to the banker, GOPS and pals bow on bended knees, and shows appreciation, and stimulation tricks.

Any one Notice the former panhandlers use greased paws? Oh bow-wow. Ask a watchdog ape, bank guards? Primates. The American Possums shut their eyes. Dastardly bad act performers. A world growls yet?

Squint. 'um respect apes, o dogs,

No use bathroom, use porch. leak.

No flush it. Save the water whales.

    Blowholes. Big fish heads squirt.

    Maybe shush. Wear a bathrobe.
