  • Palin's Approval Rating

is at 68% in the latest polls, a 14 point drop from her peak, according to the Anchorage Daily News: http://www.adn.com/sarah-palin/story/542179.html. No, thank you for playing, punctuation person.

  • You preach it, Glenn!

This essay was so good, it should be delivered from a pulpit! Straight from the Church of Common Sense.

  • cynj - shame on me -

because i posted on an earlier threat:

'I'm sure I'm not the only female in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America and I seriously considering becoming a lesbian -

but only if i don't have to move to Alaska. -

Hey i actually would never move to Alaska it was just a joke -

Und Apfelstrudel macht auch eindeutig mehr Sinn!

  • @cynj

The male side of the palinized Republican base has let their dumbed vestige of brains slip into a lower body part, and they hold it in their hand as they sit in their lay-z-boy grinning into the tube, following her every wink. She has their vote alright.

Oh how sexist of me. Sorry boys.

Haven't had enough coffee to remember where I saw those quotes as well, but until we see quotes from women talking about how Palin or, Gawd forbid, McCain has caused them to break out their vibrators, I can't see how your comment is sexist in the least. It's just an appalling truth about a certain segment of our populace.

    Makes me really appreciate the intelligent and non-gonadally-centric men we have around here. ;-}

  • ? ≠ !, your ignorance is indeed invincible...

Only an idiot would dare someone to find Article 1, as if it is something that takes longer than 2 minutes to do on the internet. This may be exactly the reason taht fewer people are as dumb as you and your Republican paymasters hope. Here is the link for your edification.

    http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html

And here is the relevant bit from Article 1:

"The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided."

That is the only duty, besides succession upon illness or death of the president, assigned the VP by the consitution.

    Here is Biden's quote:

"And the primary role of the vice president of the United States of America is to support the president of the United States of America, give that president his or her best judgment when sought, and as vice president, to preside over the Senate, only in a time when in fact there's a tie vote. The Constitution is explicit.

The only authority the vice president has from the legislative standpoint is the vote, only when there is a tie vote. He has no authority relative to the Congress. The idea he's part of the Legislative Branch is a bizarre notion invented by Cheney to aggrandize the power of a unitary executive and look where it has gotten us. It has been very dangerous."

  • @omooex

Be careful who you call stupid. Article I of the Constitution describes the legislature, not the executive, which Biden claimed.

Article II, which is the part that talks about the executive, gives no powers to the VP, although it explicitly gives powers to the president.

In fact, aside from assigning him duties as president of the senate, the constitution gives no duties to the vice president, and doesn't even designate that he should be paid.

  • Thankyou ? ≠ ! so much for clearing that up!

Your crystalline crushing logic and deep wisdom and sagacity has completely convinced me! Obviously Biden is a misinformed fool and Palin a righteous, wise, upstanding, real woman. How silly of me!

And the country is indeed still strong, a little turmoil in financial markets because the Dems forced them to lend to dark people, but McCain suspended his campaign and went to Washington and fixed just like that! And we are about to win in Iraq and Afghanistan and everybody in the world loves us and we're all going to win the lottery too!

At least if we can get some real maverick(tm) change in Washington that is!

  • Also Gallup and Rasmussen Tracking Polls have Obama up by a significant amount after the VPdebate

Gallup's number is the highest its been since the summer, 51% to McCain's 43--that's actually up from five on October 2. The news is out, all of you Republican check cashing trolls cover your ears--Obama's numbers are going up since the VP debate.

  • @Glenn

I'm surprised you didn't put in the famous Mencken quote:

"Nobody every lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the average American."

Since it seems to refer to elections too.

  • A report from Palin land

FYI: From the American News Project

By Davin Hutchins on Oct 03, 2008

At the vice presidential debate in St. Louis, the McCain campaign rented out a stadium to re-energize the conservative base in light of Sarah Palin's recent gaffes. Despite the revival feel, zeal for Palin isn't translating in the polls. While some would argue Palin exceeded expectations, unregistered voters seem unimpressed.

  • What's an "ostensible" democratic control?

The democrats have held an actual majority. But since gaining majority vote, the democrats have behaved shamefully.

Just being liberal doesn't mean one must ignore this kind of behavior, and apologize blindly for all kinds of strange actions.

The democrats were given a mandate, that they used to support FISA, give Bush all the money he asked for, and otherwise to roll over and play dead for the republicans.

It is not clear the democrats in power are actual liberals. They are merely conservatives in liberal clothings.

Outside of Obama, all Democrat legislative candidates need a serious defeat. Obama emerged because Kerry style of copycatting by democrats was rejected. If all Democrat legislative candidates are handed a serious defeat, the next generation of Democrats will not be Republican copycats, but will be an actual alternative to Republicans.

In any meanwhile, "Liberal Pundits" should not encourage the fake democrats in any way. By doing that, they are seriously undermining their cause.

  • ? ≠ ! , i don't throw the term out lightly

But going after Biden for misquoting Article 1--and article 1 does prove his point that the constitution explicitly states the one role that the VP has in the legislature--while ignoring the complete misunderstanding of the VP's constitutional role by Palin, is willful stupidity. I would wager that most Americans were frightened by Palin's belief that the constitution allows the VP to have a direct role in the legislative branch, I assume they would be more forgiving of Biden's more humble mistake.
