A country in shambles, under GOP rule Efforts to blame Democrats for the country's deep woes assume deep stupidity on the part of the glorified Regular Voter.

  • Why don't Bush voters believe in personal responsiblity?

They're personally responsible for the crumbling of America, yet they blame Democrats.

    Clinton.

    Carter.

    FDR.

Anyone and anything but their greed, their love of war and torture, and their hatred of the Constitution and regulation.

  • Quit it with the irrelevancies, ? ≠ !

This is why Mr. Greenwald's professed concern for the common American rings hollow. Her folksiness is not "self-conscious"'; it's quite genuine, and people recognize it for what it is.

Guess what? It doesn't make Governor Palin any more qualified to be on the ticket. She's been a bloody disaster as an elected official in her home state, and you think she'd be any better in the Oval Office?

Again, Greenwald seems not to understand what millions of Americans do understand, and that's why his writing about "Americans" so misses the point. Sure, there are a lot of people like him, but they're concentrated in certain circles. There are tens of mllions of Americans who have more in common with Palin than with Greenwald.

Which says more about you, that you're focusing on immaterial and insubstantial points rather than the walking nightmare that is the McCain/Palin campaign.

Really, now, couldn't you hold your condescension in check for even a few minutes?

Quite whinning. Your preferred candidates have earned it twenty times over.

Oh, and where's your constitutional lawyer's concern for Biden's total mangling of what the Constitution actually says during the debate?

Cite the quote and we can discuss it. I'm far more fascinated by Governor Palin's demonstrating an utter lack of empathy during the same.

Oh, still waiting for your scathing column on Obama's brownshirt tactics to shut down dissent in Chicago, Missouri, and in W. Va and Pennsylvania.

Again, citations please. You aren't presenting much of a case to believe you on, well, anything.

  • pieceofcake - strudel or palinschinken

"i suffer under the Germans - they are soo... rational!"

Oh aren't they. They just have Angie the physicist chancellor and we now have Sarah - and even the strongest schnapps probably wouldn't let them enjoy our kind of delightful politshow.

The male side of the palinized Republican base has let their dumbed vestige of brains slip into a lower body part, and they hold it in their hand as they sit in their lay-z-boy grinning into the tube, following her every wink. She has their vote alright.

Oh how sexist of me. Sorry boys.

  • Iokananan

Indeed, the question of qualification is a very different one from experience, and the Republicans are scrambling to hide that difference. Initially, they wanted to make the choice of Palin a referendum on Obama's experience, i.e., the number two on the Republican ticket had more experience as the number one on the Democratic. Aside from this being a dubious claim (Obama had dedicated himself to public service from his twenties, while Palin pursued what Republicans would now call selfish career goals as a beauty queen and sportscaster), this strategy is now coming back to haunt Repubs. One need only look at Obama compared to Palin to note that there is a real world difference between experience and capacity. Obama is very smart, very focused, and has spent a long time preparing for this moment. Palin is just not anywhere near this guy's league, she makes a good spokesperson, but she is just not a leader. And it becomes more obvious every time she opens her mouth. And thus, the Republicans have neatly ambushed their own best attack against Obama, that of lack of experience.

  • Gee...

... why the thundering silence on Biden's huge gaffe during the debate. He goes on and on about how he's a lawyer and chairman of the judiciary committee and then totally botches the Constitution on explaining the powers given to the president and vice president.

But the MSM is so deep in the tank for Obama they don't report this; they report how Palin fumbled the name of the general in Afghanistan.

You'd think Dems would be embarrassed, but they know they have the MSM covering for them. They campaign with full knowledge that they can get away with murder because it won't be reported.

  • "She's been a bloody disaster as an elected official in her home state"

So is that why she has an approval rating of more than 80%?

    Bzzzt! Thanks for playing.

Which says more about you, that you're focusing on immaterial and insubstantial points

Were you born dumb, or do you work real hard at it?

I was not the one focusing on irrelevancies. Greenwald was. I was calling him out on it.

Please learn to read before you spout off.

  • ? brain cells ≠ intelligence !

Again, where I come from, a lot of people wink as a sort of shorthand for "you betcha" or the like. Again, Greenwald seems not to understand what millions of Americans do understand, and that's why his writing about "Americans" so misses the point. Sure, there are a lot of people like him, but they're concentrated in certain circles.

    What complete and utter garbage.

I "come from" the heart of the midwest, flyover country, and Miss "You betcha, I'm so folksy!" isn't fooling anyone, least of all women like me who went to school with her type, the vacuous, yet vicious cheerleader who would 'wink' at you while you faced her, then stab you in the back as soon as you turned.

Yes, we've seen that little mannerism before and, because we have - especially the women, who aren't ruled by the perpetually pubescent gonads that some of their counterparts allow to influence their thought processes - we are smart enough to know better than to fall for it now.

The fact that you believe it tells me more about your lack of progress in intellect than about where you live or where you've come from.

Anyone who falls for this shtick deserves to live with the consequences of their fatuous elevation of pandering "style" over significant substance.

  • @Jeffrey P. Harrison

Your observations are right on and forcefully expressed. I just have to comment on this, however:

They reelected Shrub in 2004 didn't they?

Bush got a lot more votes in 2004 than any thinking American should be comfortable with. However, the evidence is in and it strongly suggests that Bush did not win the 2004 election, especially in Ohio.

And before folks here climb up on their American exceptionalism high horse ("that could never happen in America") and pull out the tin-foil put downs, please spend just an hour reviewing the evidence, including:

  • Invincible ignorance

Iokannan in the Well, you must be utterly clueless and living in a cave.

I'm not going to do your homework for you, but here's Biden's direct quote from the debate:

"Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the Vice President of the United States. That's the executive. He works in the executive branch."

Now get off you ass and do a little work and see what Article I of the Constitution really talks about.

As for Obama's brownshirt tactics, simply google Obama, Stanley Kurtz, Bill Ayers, WGN radio, Missouri law enforcement officials, truth squad, and you'll get plenty of hits.

And you have the temerity to call conservatives ignorant, when you live in your own little sheltered echo chamber, ignorant of all that doesn't comport with your preconceived prejudices.

I'd laugh, but it's people like you, voting their ignorance, that makes things so scary.
