A country in shambles, under GOP rule

Efforts to blame Democrats for the country's deep woes assume deep stupidity on the part of the glorified Regular Voter.

The letters thread is now closed.

A country in shambles, under GOP rule, reply...

Glenn,

Although what you said was true about the Rethuglicans, if it wasn't for the Demoncrats doing everything that Bush ever asked them to do with a couple of exceptions, it would have been impossible to destroy America. Funny how that was missing, eh? In reality there is damn little difference between Johnny, Barry and Joe. They're all war criminals, all owned and operated by the corpo-rats, all Israeli 5th columnists as is Barney Frank who like Obama shepherded Bush's bail out of the billionaires bill quickly through Congress like the lap dogs that they are. I expected more from you Glenn I thought you were above that, I was wrong!

Republican strategy works

What Glenn says about who has been in control and what the results are is perfectly true, and Americans are apparently waking up to these things.

But it is also true that McCain was leading in the polls just a few weeks ago and progressives do not now have a working majority in Congress. This situation exists because the Republican propaganda strategies have worked in the past, and continue to work now. If voters' opinions were based on issues, past performance and ideology, Republicans would get no more of the vote than the 25% or so hard-core rightists.

huh. glorified bloaters who bra the got money. Who would NOT give you Regular Voters a dime.

The 'eof' offspring of the ones who gloat and glory about money,

often spoil a child. A Twerp won't reach on a litter bedroom floor,

to pick up a nickel or dime or a penny, Pop and Mom soiled `um.

huh. Soiled them. They got worst conditions than buck rot teeth.

`

`Unable to see the truth. Because THEM are so blind is sad irony.

`And unable to open a dictionary and find the meaning of "irony."

You forgot a couple, RIChris

Thomas Jefferson quotes:

I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their money, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them (around the banks), will deprive the people of their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.

By a declaration of rights, I mean one which shall stipulate freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of commerce against monopolies, trial by juries in all cases, no suspensions of the habeas corpus, no standing armies. These are fetters against doing evil which no honest government should decline.

And finally, one for the Palintologists:

If a nation expects to be ignorant -- and free -- in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.

Sunday, October 5, 2008 08:19 AM

I agree with except ...

While I agree that the pundits underestimate the American people, there is a deep strain of ignorance that goes through the voting population. How much that affects the outcome, I'm not sure.

But I have stood in line for primaries with people who thought they were voting in the general election. I have voted alongside people who never read newspapers, watch the news, talk about politics who nevertheless felt it was important to vote, even though they weren't sure who was running.

I also know that many, many people vote, ultimately, for the candidate that they like the best on a personal, emotional level. In this case, all candidates pass the likability test to some degree, which actually makes some voters look a little closer at the issues, but most people (including pundits) base their opinions on very superficial notions.

More judithodrot::

(2)[Biden] claimed Obama never said he would meet unconditionally with Ahmedinijad but Obama did say that

Fact Check:

Verdict: Misleading. Obama has said that he is willing to meet with Iranian leaders, and that such a meeting "could include" Ahmadinejad. However, he has also specified that he does not consider Ahmadinejad to be Iran's most important leader, and he has not said directly that he would be willing to meet with the current Iranian president.
