Again, where I come from, a lot of people wink as a sort of shorthand for "you betcha" or the like. Again, Greenwald seems not to understand what millions of Americans do understand, and that's why his writing about "Americans" so misses the point. Sure, there are a lot of people like him, but they're concentrated in certain circles.
What complete and utter garbage.
I "come from" the heart of the midwest, flyover country, and Miss "You betcha, I'm so folksy!" isn't fooling anyone, least of all women like me who went to school with her type, the vacuous, yet vicious cheerleader who would 'wink' at you while you faced her, then stab you in the back as soon as you turned.
Yes, we've seen that little mannerism before and, because we have - especially the women, who aren't ruled by the perpetually pubescent gonads that some of their counterparts allow to influence their thought processes - we are smart enough to know better than to fall for it now.
The fact that you believe it tells me more about your lack of progress in intellect than about where you live or where you've come from.
Anyone who falls for this shtick deserves to live with the consequences of their fatuous elevation of pandering "style" over significant substance.
