Single funniest blog post I ever read

A right-wing commentator denounces unlimited presidential power as "un-American" because "America exists precisely because of our desire to rein in government and make it accountable to the people."

The letters thread is now closed.

Yoo looks like he is settng Obama up.

It's panic, panic, panic.

REAllY, people haven't lost their jobs like 1930's so what gives as it's is only Wall Street Panic. Repubs act offended that Obama doesn't even mention the OVERSITE issue.

This is where Repugs *uck" Obama over and their doing it right now, via acting concerned about the legal issue of Paulson's proposal.

Obama doesn't give a damn about the law, so he will be screwed by suppose Repugs who now suddenly do want the law followed. Keep on laughing Glenn, the joke will be on you and the netroots - You think the Repugs didn't notice how the FISA bill make Obama polls drop? Of course they did.

It's on so simply, "Obama doesn't care about law" and the Repugs are right, Obama doesn't care about legal rights oversite, or even his own oath of office, so the fix is in.

The Supreme Court retirees are screwed.

Am I the only one who read this: "Absolutely massive moral scotoma."

As this:

"Absolutely massive moral scrota."?

I apologize ahead of time for any brain hemorrhages reading the above causes.

Ron Paul Library

Sorry Glenn, I couldn't find what clip you are talking about (I used google...) but it might be the floor speech on july 16, 2002 when he introduced the Free Housing Market Enhancement Act:

Absurd.

bystander

Sorry for the late reply. I put up those early comments and then life called. A few horse chores, dinner, music lessons for my youngest, etc.

As for horse brains, yes they do work very differently than ours. As herd prey animals, they take the attitude of panic now and ask questions later. I think that is what Paulson is trying to get us to do. Fortunately, it appears Dodd is not only asking the right questions, he even has some pretty good answers.

Morrissey's rapid shift also makes me think of one of our horses. He specializes in Western Riding, an event where both the horse and rider are graded primarily on how well they execute a series of flying lead changes. That means the horse is loping along nicely, and with only the slightest foot signal from the rider it changes from one front foot leading to the other, with only the slightest "skip" step.

I don't think Morrissey executed his lead change very well. Reminds me of a trainer I know who seems to think she's on a motorcycle when it's time for a lead change. She pushes down so hard with her feet that her butt comes up out of the saddle. I will confess to making the occasional quiet fart sound when she does that. It leads to a lot of giggling, since there are seven lead changes in the pattern.

Misreading, for the Fun of it

"Absolutely massive moral scrota..." --Pedinska.

Sweetie, that phrase is perfectly logical. The relativism, in varying sizes, is just a bit north.

Predictable

Commentators on the Right will always do the politically advantageous thing and react to news or whatever to where it's convenient for themselves. Just Google the "Drill, baby, drill" stuff or the Terry Shiavo crap. They live for this stuff. It's where they get their power: from the credulous.

I believe they are being completely cynical. They know exactly what they are doing and they don't care. This is about power; nothing less.

Sweetie, that phrase is perfectly logical.

Well, at least I caught it from my husband..... ;-}

Double-Think

Josh Marshall agrees with other bloggers:

The Republican/McCain plan is to get the Democrats to bail out the GOP's Wall Street friends and then run against them for doing it.

It sounds crazy, doesn't it? And yet we have seen it work time and again.

Basically, the McCain 08 campaign is now riding on Ed Morrissey's proven capacity for double-think.

If it were like this maybe we could view them with sympathy

I guess if they were cute and had fur and their own habitat and didn't generally interact with us, we might watch them on the Discovery Channel and think, "Hmm what a unique self-defence mechanism. They've actually compartmentalized their self-image so that it remains contanst even when their behavior completely contradicts it! How very strange."

Then the narrator would explain that although this unique defense mechanism did indeed provide them with the psychological shield they required to interact socially within their fear-based specie, it also carried with it a devastating flaw. External data and contingencies had to be continually rationalized and subconsciously misinterpreted in order to protect and conform with the static self-image. The mechanism for assessing reality had been over-ridden by the needs of the psyche, leaving these creatures unable to adjust and adapt -- literally unable to evolve. This circumstance, the narrator tells us, renders them a genetic dead end!

The manure finally got deep enough...

http://firedoglake.com/2008/09/22/hey-look-spinal-columns/

First Barney Frank, in response to former investment banker and current Bush SEC chair Henry Paulson's whining about how unfaaaaair it was to impose any conditions on his efforts to bail out his buddies, gave Paulie Walnuts the Soprano treatment: “ 'Hank says it’s a poison pill,' Frank said. 'I say I don’t think it’s very patriotic for someone to not give up his golden parachute when we’re trying to save the markets.' ”

Then Barack Obama told Paulson what he could do with his proposed trillion-dollar payoff to bad bankers who rate Club Fed berths more than they do golden parachutes from the Treasury.

Now Nancy Pelosi's joined in with a dope-slap to Paulson: “We will not simply hand over a $700 billion blank check to Wall Street and hope for a better outcome. Democrats will act responsibly to insulate Main Street from Wall Street."

Spines are sprouting all over in the Democratic Party, it seems.

Some seeds are slower than others to sprout. Some need a period of chill. Some need to have their outsides scraped up.....

I'm not sure what the requirements are for spines, but I'm glad to finally see a crop come up. This'll really mess up the spine futures market for the foreseeable future.
