The GOP's cheerful viciousness

Yet again, the GOP launches brutal personality and cultural attacks on the Democratic candidate. Yet again, Democrats seem determined to allow it to do so.

The letters thread is now closed.

The mean, smart girl in high school

Glenn is right in every point he made about Palin's snarky speech. By the way, she is still wearing the unflattering prom hairdo from the '70's. Around here they call it "church lady" hair - church ladies are not so vicious though.

The Democrats need to remind the voters of the snotty, selfish smart girl in school who wouldn't ever help anyone else with their homework. ( You know... you had one in your class too!) The folks who vote Republicans now were the same ones that resented the uppity, know it all, Miss Perfect in high school. I know it's a stupid way to win an election - but we NEED to win this one!

Obama shouldn't be the one to do it, though. He is the nice, popular guy from High School who always had time to talk to everyone. Biden and Clinton have to do it!

@rphillips111

Read it and weep.

They will track Anne down if she exists and I'm afraid, for you, McCain and Palin, she does.

A letter from someone who has known Sarah Palin since 1992

Toss and turn on that.

Looks like maybe that "rumor" about the baby was no rumor at all.

You guys made your bed. Now go sleep in it.

If you can.

Long two months before the general.

Check back in a week.

If you break a 2% bounce, I'll send you a dime to buy a clue with.

@ Jim Montague, liked your post

Hey Jim I liked your post on:

YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE REPUBLICAN IF...

This would be a great idea to expand on and circulate before and during Election Day. A lot of people I have talked to say "well, you know, I really don't follow politics" and then they just repeat what they see on the TV. Republicans that don't follow politics usually only have one or two key issues that make them think they should vote republican but are unaware of the large amount of other important issues that the Republicans say they support but truly don't. I have found though that when you can personalize the issues by showing them how it directly affects them, if their sensible, will come around to understanding that the GOP doesn’t represent the common middle class American. Only through personalizing the issues will they understand the "code words" and the negative implications they represent to the middle and lower class American. Maybe others can expand on the post to come up with more bullet points and then those who have websites can post it there. Just an idea. Anyone?

Sorry, Jim's post was actually titled:

(What the GOP believes in, what McCain believes in, what Palin believes in, a reminder)

Tweedle-dum and tweedle-dee

The "Democrats" deserve to lose. They may not be as nasty as the "Republicans," but they are playing the same game. It is not about actually doing something for the good of humanity, but about money and the exercise of power. Any election campaign is about image-making, and image-breaking.

It is likely to get even nastier. One thing that may save the "Democrats" is that Barack Obama earned his political stripes in Chicago, which has its own brand of down-and-dirty.

Still, what about doing something to foster civilization, both here and worldwide? I don't expect much, if anything, from either candidate. Obama is talking about increasing our role in "Afghanistan" and basically giving the same diplomatic and/or military support to "Georgia" that McCain is peddling. He calls "Iran" a threat, and his approach to that country is not fundamentally different from what is fomented by the "foreign policy establishment."

I see Obama is appearing on the Bill O'Reilly show. That pretty much settles it. He boycotted Fox for months because they spread the rumor that he attended a Madrassa. That would have been a good case of standing on principle, but now he goes a-begging for acceptance and approval. If it were me, I would make it a campaign promise to remove Fox's FCC license if elected, and look into criminal prosecution of its executives and propagandists.

But not the "Democrats." They won't even impeach the most criminal president in our entire history. I repeat: they won't even impeach the most criminal president in our entire history. That makes them complicit, criminals themselves.

So who really cares if the "Democrats" are gun-shy of going nasty. It's just a strategic choice, a method to create an image to fool the voters.

By the way, John McCain was on a bombing run intended for civilians in Hanoi when he was shot down. He was on his 23d bombing "mission," in a plane (A4 Skyhawk) that flies at a maximum altitude of 45,000 ft. Some hero.

@-- HappyJack - And you get the government you deserve, Jack

And little weenies like you deserve to get it good and hard.

Actually...

That poll from Gallup is from last night. Right beneath the headline 49% to 42%, the site says "Obama lead unchanged".

Regarding the trolls. No, I am not surprised. Just disappointed. I'm expecting at any moment to spot that RWA chestnut on this board: "Everything that's gone wrong over the last seven years is Sandy Burger's fault!!!"

Or Vernon Dean's.

@HappyJack

You are dead right on target.

The democrats don't deserve to win this or any election for that matter.

Even Biden seems to have more spine than Obama by suggesting criminal investigation of Bush.

The first thing an american appreciates is boldness and standing up for oneself and the worst thing to show is bending backwards and being a coward. You may be good or bad or even ugly, but if you are a coward, you are doomed.

Democrats are essentially cowards: they have been ever since Kerry refused to blast Bush for Swift-boating.

And now by refusing to attack Palin's hypocrisy they have shown that they are the party to lose. Plus add their refusal to recognize people's anger against pelosi, their half-hearted attempts to bring rove to justice, etc.

Am pretty sure Palin and McCain will win this election: i promise to donate $100 to DoctorsWithoutBorders if Democrats are defeated.

Anybody else willing to take up the bet?

The loser donates $100 to doctors without borders charity.
