The GOP's cheerful viciousness

Yet again, the GOP launches brutal personality and cultural attacks on the Democratic candidate. Yet again, Democrats seem determined to allow it to do so.

The letters thread is now closed.

Wonderful. The refugee from SorrySAC speaks.

And you claim to be the smart ones. -- HornetDriver

We are, or haven't you been paying attention?

What am I saying? Of course you haven't.

Oh yeah

Navy SEALS are totally overrated asshats.

@Liberty Gal

Do you have a link to the article where this is quoted? It's a gem and I just had to laugh. I doubt there are two more ignorant people ever to have run for higher office. If you have the time I'd love to know the source.

Credit goes to Arne Langsetmo, who originally posted it. The link to the source is in my signature. Enjoy! It's almost as funny as when she said she has no idea what the Vice President does... Almost.

The appropriate and correct Dem attitude, not response,

to the foul offerings of the Rs in Convention is disgust, disdain, contempt, and weariness.

To engage them with tit for tat accusations is absurd. To refute their dismal pratings is a waste of energy and time. To confront them is to give them legitimacy they don't deserve.

It's time -- long past time -- Dems took the initiative to dismiss these creatures from the public discussion, simply refuse to grant them any respect or standing.

They have, in their period in power, disastrously and criminally conducted themselves and the affairs of state, and they would if continued in power be worse at "governing" than ever. They deserve neither accommodation nor consideration.

Dismiss them.

Okay, just a couple of things in response to your cluelessness.

Look up the meaning of FAC.

And then just two words: Night trap.

Then tell me about the comfy chair etc.

But the chow is good.

I was just listening to a rebroadcast of Fresh Air in the car...

Terry Gross was interviewing David Kirkpatrick, the author of a series of articles profiling John McCain.

I didn't get to hear the whole show, but one point that stuck out was that there's no mention of McCain being a maverick before 1998, at the earliest. The phrase was actually first applied to John Kasich, a former senator from Ohio.

Anchors Aweigh, Swabbie

HornetDriver (the man formerly known as Hornet Driver -- don't ask) writes (in defence of being called an 'asshat'): "Except the Chair Force doesn't fly Hornets ... asshat."

The implication here is scary. Consider. Proposition one. Hornet-guy is an actual pilot (Navy, doncha know) in charge of an actual airplane (hey, so was John McCain, and come to think of it, so was GWB . . . this gets really scary, eh?). And he's defendin' deee3ocracy and fightin' fer yer freedom. If it weren't for these guys, ytou'd be speaking Hindi, goldang it. As they say, "Smart bombs, stupid pilots . . . ".

Or, he's just another Nintendo boy who wants to be a pilot (a lot like the dudes in Aloha shirts and goatees, sucking on lattes in a bunker in FL or AZ while 'piloting' Predators and taking out 'suspects' in Eye-Rack with Hellfires -- "Oops, but the bride looked like Osama").

Either way, we have a loser/loser situation. Actual pilot or actual wannabe pilot? Sheesh, this is another fine mess we've gotten into, Ollie.

Top AP headline on Yahoo News: McCain vows to end partisan rancor in Washington

That's pub code for "I'm conceding the election, as if nominating Palin wasn't enough of a clue."

He couldn't just come out and say it. That would upset The Base, and you know how unstable they can be.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 05:35 PM

Wow, UsedtobeKristin

Perhaps we should start referring to her as Spiro T. Palin, she sounds like she wants to be a household word.

Thanks ondelette

While the supporters of McShameful post more Repug nonsense and Obama supporters fret, you are reminding us of why it is so important to ensure no more thugs are elected to lead our government. The mistreatment of Aafia and her family is truly disgusting and although the treatment of the "anarchists" in Minnepaolis is also disgusting, it pales in comparison to the Sidiqqui case.

John Stewart on his show last night said after railing about the POW nonsense on McWar, said, "Who knew, Guantanamo is not a prison it is a leadership training academy."

night trap?

My kid used to have a video game called night trap.

@ Iokannan in the Well

Your response to T. Suarez was pathetic.

The question isn't whether you agree with the position or not. (It's unclear even whether you're agreeing with the flip or the flop.) It's ample evidence that Obama is a liar.

The issue is the ample evidence of Obama changing positions strictly for political expediency, sort of like his advisor telling the Canadian government to ignore everything Obama says about free trade, since he doesn't really mean it. That would cause even Bill "I Kept the Promises I Intended to Keep" Clinton to blush.

And the Jeremiah Wright quote was not a poor paraphrase. Here's the exact quote, courtesy of Nexis transcript of his speech: "I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother."

So, are you sure you still want to include yourself among the "smart ones"?

Ondelette

NPR's All Things Considered mentioned the case briefly and described what happened today. I was pleasantly surprised.

Sic the Clintons on 'em

This is why many thought Hillary was the better choice, having been the victim of so many attacks, she convinced us that she would be much more forceful and negative, if need be - this, of course, is what she was pilloried for by the media and the Obama supporters, even as us "old timers" were crying "Oh my god this is NOTHING compared to what the Republicans are going to do!"

McCain promised a respectful campaign. He is losing all his credibility and whatever respect Independents might have had for him.

The Dems made their convention all about Bush. I think the strategy of "McCain equals Bush" may be limited. Bush is nowhere to be seen and McCain is getting a free ride.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 05:41 PM

Citizen Ken why not punish Obama later instead of now?

I totally understand your ethical stance and your anger at the Obama sell-out. But you articulate well why Bush needs to be repudiated in this election.

Why can't independent progressives such as yourself vote against the palin mccain ticket in 2008 and let the Democrats have this leg up to fundraise and to get their act together. If you honestly hate the job Obama is doing--punish him later. There will be opportunities. It's like firing someone right before you need their help with an enormous project. Fire him if you must--but not yet. Hold your nose for one election. You can do it. Think of those who couldn't hold their nose for Gore.

Why not start a hold your nose campaign just for 2008...elections are just elections...they aren't marriages. You don't have to join the party. Just consider a one night stand this November.

seriously.
