The GOP's cheerful viciousness

Yet again, the GOP launches brutal personality and cultural attacks on the Democratic candidate. Yet again, Democrats seem determined to allow it to do so.

The letters thread is now closed.

-- ? ≠ !

Yeah, Wahabbists (sic) like bin Laden build daycare centers so their women can go off to their jobs, driving their personal cars because they're just so tolerant of women's rights -- when they're not publicly beheading them for flashing a bit of ankle, that is.

Yeah, Wahabbis like our allies the Saudis?

One never speaks ill of the dead, shooter242.

And oh yeah, badmouth any of the recently deceased lately?

The living - and you - are another matter entirely.

I don't think much of your 'rebuttals' to the corrections to Governor Palin's many lies either. Weak tea, all of it.

The essential exercise

What should Biden have said? What could he have said? And then, like the chess game it is, what would have come back, and then repeat: what should/could Biden say.

Maybe if the democrats could

1) hit back

2) stay in the fight

3) maybe win one

The GOP might choose something else.

But something is in water, something is in the nature of the person who is liberal, who is democrat: we don't do that.

And that's also why the Republicans don't like us. They feel like they're in the company of sheep. The sheep that say "don't make a fuss", the sheep that say "let him eat one and then he'll leave the rest of us alone."

It would be nice if the sheep ate one of those wolves. Really chomped his ass.

But in the meantime, at least the sheep should put up a serious fight.

Of course, well, that might be like Howard Dean, and the sheep don't like that. Or like Al Gore who was counseled that he was being too rough on Bush in the debates. And then there was Kerry, sheep all the way.

Where is the Democratic attack dog? You know, there are dogs that are bred to guard the sheep.

McCain has accused Obama of treason. -- Kitt

Oh really? That's an incendiary accusation. Let's see the documentation.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 12:43 PM

Shooter...

You're right for once, but McCain didn't provide any documentation. Maybe you should call him up and see what he says.

keep it simple

Dems need to take her down with some simple reasoned arguments:

a) She has a problem with the truth. She had nothing to say about the bridge to nowhere. Congress rescinded the funding and she had absolutely nothing to do with that. Refer to http://www.dailyhowler.com/index.shtml for a more complete analysis. Palin is a liar

b) Community organizing. Yes, Obama was trying to help tens of thousands of poor people (black people, so in GOP land they don't count) while she was lobbying congress for earmarks and saddling her little town with 22mil in debt!

c) Her daughter's pregnancy is a family affair...but, maybe we can segue into a discussion about how an average 17yo mother would fare in this country of ours. Where will they find health insurance? Will a young family be able to get any support to continue their education?

Oh Please

Give me a break. Not one hour after Palin was announced as the VP candidate, Obama spokesman Bill Burton issued the following press release:

"Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same."

So if Palin responds in kind by questioning Obama's experience and policies, she is somehow nasty and unfair?

Let's just be clear who drew first blood.

I am constantly amused by those on the far Left who feel perfectly entitled to launch the most vicious attacks on their opponents, but cry fowl and throw tantrums when someone hits back.

Re: Careful how you handle her

Crap. Why?

And that's just what they are hoping you do. Counting on it. Like you handle "terrists" with "kid gloves, hugs and therapy"?

It is simple. She's a mindless airhead with no experience, a mean and vindictive streak and a big mouth. They spent years calling Hillary a bitch. Which one is really the bitch? A pit bull with lip stick, in her own words. This is the big game. She came to play rough, and she had better be able to handle it. There are no do-overs at DefCon 4. No Mulligans.

Aside from that, yeah, the GOP is all smoke and mirrors. They can't run on substance.

THIS MESSAGE IS FOR BARACK OBAMA

Barack, if you or your associates read this blog, I urge you to consider: you MUST attack, forcefully, the dishonest methods that the Republicans use, time and again to make their points. Sarah Palin used lie after lie last night to get her point across that somehow you are an "effete" snob who doesn't care about "real" people. Don't attack the messenger, just the method, and and point out each and every occasion where the messenger "screwed up." Let the rest of us point out the absolute hypocrisy that Sarah Palin's candidacy represents, that she's just another tool in the far-right wing's bag of nasty tricksters. We've seen this movie before, it's called "George W. Bush," and we've had enough!

Thursday, September 4, 2008 12:45 PM

Shooter

The article was about Palin, not Obama. You seem to share the Republican inability to address questions being asked or taek responsibility for their own actions. Always pointing the finger at someone else, oh he's worse! Childlike.

Sleepers, Awake!

Palin's speech contained a lot of fiction. Why aren't the Democrats going after the facts and point out that Palin was flat-out lying? I am usually for playing it cool, but this is too big an opportunity to pass up, an opportunity to cripple Palin immediately.. Last night, the governor took a swing at Obama that left her wide open to a big counterpunch. Today, Biden and the other Obama surrogates are speaking in generalities, complaining about Palin's tone, and saying the usual cagey stuff. Why aren't they coming back with the facts showing that Palin was lying? Why aren't they calliing a spade a spade and a lie a lie?

Once again, Dems are leaving it up to the press, which will do a barely adequate job of fact-checking the speech and put the results on page 12. Right now, show that she is a blatant liar and McCain's campaign will flounder, at least for a while, after all the excitement about her. Do not waste energy debunking her jibe at Obama's tax plan; people reflexively turn off when arithmetic is involved, let alone thinking. In the case of the Bridge to Nowhere, Palin supported the project until supporting it became a liability; then she canceled the project and has still not returned the US taxpayers' money to the Federal government. People understand theft and they hate being played. If the Republicans found Obama or Biden to have issued an easily debunked lie , they would be reaming the Obama campaign within hours, if not minutes, and never stop. This is one time to take the gloves off, rather than play it safe.
