@LWM
I'm assuming little of what you posted was actually addressed at me, since I haven't taken any position on the topic, certainly none in opposition to your own.
I must have left out the snark tag, though. I meant to misquote the bumper sticker. I would never accuse you of being a good man, let alone one who does (or has done) nothing. I respect the consistent positions you take here, and I don't want this blog to consist of nothing but emoting and posing. If you're bored with all this too, you've earned it.
Do your math.
100 is not 1% of 10,000.
We all make mistakes. I forgot to mention the controlled riot that was Halloween in the Castro. 10,000, even 100,000 pales in comparison to Halloween in the Castro. The street fair was at least 100,000 always.
What I'm suggesting is that your objectively neutral stance regarding "pigs'n'hippies" allows you to shrug off all reports from the convention. I get that. I'm not out there either. If I thought stoning a cop would turn the world around, I'd go out and stone a dozen. But I don't.
What I don't get is why you want everyone else to conform to your neutral and passive stance. They don't. They're not objective, because they empathize with the normal people caught in the undertow of what is a "crime scene" only because the "pigs" said it was, and feel threatened. They only want the Republicans to feel the heat they deserve to feel, without getting themselves run over, beaten, gassed, or shot.
Don't you think things would work out better if, say, 50 million Americans felt the same way?

This is so bizarre, I just don't know how to respond to it.
Hey, if they got arrested and physically harmed, they must have deserved, it right? -- UsedtobeKristin
As I understand it, lwm wrote the speech for the police chief, e-man coached the delivery, and shooter was not smart enough to add any value at all.
When the brown shirts in Germany, in those bygone days, started cracking heads, people like these three were all for it. They always cry that "order must be maintained" even if all the kids need be beaten. Or killed, depending on color.
I'm usually more polite than this, BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE STFU!
100 x 100 = 10000. 100/10000 = .01. Thus, 100 is 1% of 10000.
As for the rest, I guess you're just not used to people trying to calmly reason with you. ;)
The real world, of course. Here's a recent case where official denial became untenable and the cops had to fess up:

It must be nice having independent media w/ some real reach.
I'm almost positive the record will show you're wrong. But even if you are right it is purely, 100% semantic point.
Do your math. 100 is not 1% of 10,000. -- L.W.M.
What is i% (one percent) of 10,000 in your world?
I got 0.01 x 10,000 = 100 over here.
No wonder cops are like they are!
Of course local cops don't have the resources to do this. Who said anything about local cops?
Anyway, all I'm saying is, who knows? CargoCult drew that conclusion, not me. If you look at Cargo's link to a Canadian police attempt to get union members embroiled in a riot, you'll see they botched the job. The three men in question were "burly" and wore riot police boots. So maybe the professional security people (that's "they") haven't figured this one out yet. But you better believe they'd love to learn. And if the asshole kids ever go away---they will.
Except they don't have to. It's far easier to just declare a place closed and then arrest everyone for not immediately teleporting out within nanoseconds. That's what "they" (there I go again) did in DC and in Philly, famously catching people on their way to work. (What's LWM's opinion on that, I wonder? "Shrug"?)
But even if you are right it is purely, 100% semantic point.

No it isn't. You're suggesting that Glenn is saying that Obama must win. So in your take Glenn would have been saying Obama must win when he was running against Hilary Clinton. But Glenn wasn't saying that because Glenn knew that both Obama or Clinton, whichever one of them ended up running against McCain, must win against McCain.
So it is simple point of fact that Glenn is saying McCain must lose. It just so happens that Obama is the only person who is in a position to beat McCain. My explanation is not complicated. Your question is transparent.
Fuck the police and all their apologists.
Infiltration of "leftist" groups is conducted by various agencies all the time, and there have been abundant reports in California for years about the kinds of things that are still going on right now. Nobody believes the military and civilian agencies when they say they don't do it any more. Ha! Of course they do. It is assumed that pretty much any publically announced "leftist" meeting will have one or more spies from the Stasi, and appropriate accommodations are made.
Because violence by protesters is really very rare in this country, the issue of provocateurs is more difficult to deal with. They certainly have been used strategically for generations against all sorts of peoples' organizations and interests, and therefore many activist organizations assume that anyone in their ranks who proposes or perpetrates violence is a provocateur.
Black Bloc protesters are particularly dicey. Some of them are cops or other agents of the Law. That's pretty well universally understood. I was at a protest in San Francisco a few years back, the police showily seized some Black Bloc guy, and then suddenly turned him loose because he was one of them. It was like a big joke on the street. Ha ha.
But then others are actually Wild Youth. (Well, not necessarily so young...)
The fact of infiltration and provocation is too widespread and too well-known to be doubted.
why i respect the consistent positions LWM takes here, regarding "pigs'n'hippies" is when the "pigs" fraction gets a little bit out of control and thus makes al the hippies look so bad and foolish that a hippie suddenly finds himself defending the 'pigs - not because he wants everyone else to conform to his neutral and (definitely not passive stance) but perhaps it just takes to much away from letting the Republicans feel the heat they deserve to feel!
