One of Glenn's central tenets here seems to be that Democrats are as much of the problem in the assault on the rule of law and his other key concerns as Republicans. Did Glenn choose to protest at the Democatic National Convention and post multiple articles about it, some with nine updates? Not that I am aware of; the posts are not in evidence.
Why is that? I would like to see from Glenn a fulsome post explaining the reasons that he chooses to protest one convention while not protesting the other, despite his nearly equal assignment of blame for the lawbreaking of the past eight years to each party.
Don't get me wrong. I am happy at the firm evidence of Glenn squarely placing himself in one camp rather than the other. He chose the right one at this time in our history. I'd just like him to be clear and public with his reasons.
@Ché Pasa (September 2, 2008 04:21 PM):
"But the actions taken and the policies followed by these militarized forces can be mitigated and modified, as they have been in many jurisdictions, usually after particularly egregious overreactions such as we've been seeing in St. Paul.
"The People have to demand it.
"I hope the People of Minneapolis and St. Paul do demand it..."
Well, one thing they can do is rein in the police by electing a Democratic mayor... Oh, wait, they tried that.
And see his press release praising his gendarmes for their "restraint."
In recent weeks Bangkok,Thailand has been at the center of politics as struggle and forceful protest over the current PM,Samak, and the ex-TRT(Thai Rak Thai)party which morphed into the PPP(People Power Party) after the Thai military coup of 2006 reset Thai national politics after Thaksin Shinawatra's years as TRT leader and Thai Prime Minister.
Now deposed--and who has now fled Thai justice for England-- Thaksin Shinawatra--leader of TRT did a high political dive into a shallow political pool compliments of the Thai Army.
Many thousands of Thais have now taken to the streets of Bangkok for days in protest over how now PM Samak(Thaksin thought/seen to be his puppet master)and the shapeshifted old TRT/new PPP are doing again what led to Thaksins political crash and burn.
Many Thais are showing we Americans a level of forceful political struggle and protest being taken to the nations capital,Bangkok, that our own WashingtonDC never sees anything similar to. One can only imagine how our American government would have responded to the scale of forceful protests and political struggle that the national government of Thailand in Bangkok is seeing and being forced to respond to and over.
Thai Prime Minister Samak has now declared a State of Emergency in hopes of pushing the Thai military back into Thai politics. The Thai military has declared it will not attack Thais who are protesting the current Samak/PPP regime.
Politics are often messy--truth and fact many times are not readily discerned when the spin and smoke machines are at work.
The Thai protesters have taken control of what is called Government House in Bangkok. One can think of this as being similar to Americans against the Iraq Occupation, against the Corporatists and standing for rule of law and common man equality and justice taking the WH in WashingtonDC.
Democracy is not about one trillion $$ defense/security budgets and runaway DOJ and WH and Congress operations.
Democracy is not about SWAT teams, busting doors in and being brutal and thuglike on whim and flimsy constructs of the law.
Democracy is about letting people work out conflicts with fact and truth at the front of the conversation and not hidden and covered up with lies and misdirected mythmaking, false fables and fantasy tells.
Whatever is going on in the Twin Cities is a sickness on our American Democracy. The Republicans are having some kind of Fascist Orgy judging from what is going on inside the GOP convention tonight(Tuesday 9/2) where the facts and truths are few and very far between the propaganda and truthslaying.
To read more about the political conflict now taking place in Bangkok go to www.bangkokpost.com.,the english website of this old Thai newspaper.
We Americans perhaps need to think about taking on WashingtonDC on the American Capital's streets.
And let the Chinese and Russian people see how American Democracy works in the American Capital city.Or may not.
The link to Politico's response is in sig - I figured it was too stupid to be true (and having read many of Norbit's letters over many threads, I know this is a reasonable assumption to make) so I ran a few Google news searches and found it.
He does indeed have a twisted lizard brain.
There was a lot of drama when Obama spoke during the Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the convention but he did not mention the protest zones right outside preventing the very free speech Dr. King endorsed. I'm a democrat but I find it hypocritical that Obama can speak on Dr. King’s anniversary and yet will not open his mouth to condemn the raids and violent aggressive behavior being used by the police, FBI, National Guard, Homeland security or whoever else is behind these unmarked and unidentified uniforms. Obama needs to speak out and marry this type of Military Police State tactics to the Bush Administration. He needs to say something! He needs to call on the media to report on such abuses. He's lying low like a coward, is that what he plans to do during his presidency? Lying low and waiting it out is not how a great leader leads. Obama can invoke Dr. King's name all he wants but he needs to stand up to surpass him. As of today he can't even carry Dr. King's water if he were still here today. But unlike Obama, Dr. King paid the ultimate price for his beliefs in Civil Rights. Obama can't even make a public statement on the matter.
