to Elephantman: "Coward"
Sgt.Major Elephant'man' and his sister Lance Corporal Shooter and his niece, Pfc. Tiberius, are just chock full of bluster and bravado. The Three Commandos.
Maybe they'll all three get on up to Minnie with their tasers and help the FBI fight the terrorists.
I never thought that I woud agree with G. Gordon Liddy on anything, but he was right: the police are nothing but jack-booted thugs.
You need a time out. Even if it was just about the the proper way to prepare and eat rat, one should never admit to agreeing with Liddy about anything.
The police are an arm of the state, empowered by law to use non-negotiable, coercive lethal force in accordance with situational exigencies (discretion).
Or something like that. I'm surely forgetting a few terms and clauses in the definition but that's the gist of it and I'm too lazy to go rummaging through old college notes right now. In most cases, they are doing what they do in the honest belief they are protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order.
"The first lesson in activism is that the person that offers to get the dynamite is always the FBI agent."/blockquote>That thought had occured to me also but I think this clown is merely the Second Coming of Richard Cheney who took deferment after deferment after deferment, all the while urging his fellow citizens to enter the fray and get their asses blown away while protecting his stupid ass.
We are working hard to turn our long time red county blue and I sent this news as a motivating factor for all of us to work even harder to throw out Repug authoritarians who are trampling on our free speech and constitution.
The case against two fighters for free speech who were arrested and charged with nonsense by our DuPage County (IL) attorney because they held up an Impeach Bush-Cheney sign over an expressway crossover and were left to twist in the legal system for 15 months until the bogus charges were finally dismissed, taught us about what these thugs do to stifle political opposition.
One can never be sure but I got the impression that adnoto was a jarhead once. Navy man, like yourself, but who knows?
I understand why he's angry and feels powerless but he refuses to understand why he's angry and is powerless.
According to Green Party councilperson Cam Gordon of the Minneapolis City Council, the Secret Service has authority over all the police groups in the Twin Cities during the convention. He was aware of this 'contract' as a councilperson. FBI / Dept of HS people were also identified at the raids.
St Paul police are somewhat more low key (they have a black commander and a Democratic Party mayor) but the Ramsey County Sheriff's office, run by a Republican, Fletcher, has played a prominent role in the raids, even in Minneapolis, which is OUTSIDE Ramsey County.
Seized "evidence" shown on WCCO TV on Saturday night by the sheriff - including one large 'slingshot' (for Goliath?), some twisted nails used to disable tires, and cans of unknown substances - could have either been totally innocent (can of paint thinner in garage) or planted. It is not above the national police to plant evidence, of course. Attorneys for the NLG will be making sure there is a real 'chain of custody', lets hope. The NLG has asked for a TRO against the police today, Sunday.
Anyone associated with the anarchist movement is being arrested, detained or harassed. As Glenn has pointed out, lawyers, videographers and journalists have also been detained.
And this while the most violent lawbreakers in the country - the Republican Party - attempt to have a "party." No group better deserves some disruption. Come to Minneapolis and let these people know the jig is up.
From Minneapolis,
Hooded, Automatic Weapon Toting Gestapo, kicking in the doors of American Citizens, is just the first little tickle in the throat, the first sense that a bad cold, flu, or pnemonia is on it's way. With 9/11, a vast mechanism of repression and authoritarian control was unleashed on America, and on the World.
The toxic dust hadn't even settled before the magical appearance of the foot-thick "Patriot Act", which spelled out in minute detail, everything that we now needed to do to make ourselves "safe" again. No one bothered to read it, no one bothered to question how something this intricate could have been completed in 5 minutes, or that it's contents might be a recipe for the end of Freedom and Liberty we were supposedly fighting for.
For those too dim to have figured this out yet, we are being targeted for Termination. The powers that are in control now can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and they absolutely will not stop. Ever. Until we are dead. Until Freedom is dead.
The War is coming. Prepare yourselves accordingly.
being patient and letting the lawyers sort it out will not cut it. That's what we've been doing for years and years, and that passivity is what has enabled the Busheviks and police state tactics to become so pervasive. For someone who has lived as long as you have not to know that is remarkable.
The lawyers, of course, will do their business, as they always do, but we can anticipate from experience that this matter will not go to trial; these sorts of things rarely do. There will be a settlement by the cities and counties involved, I doubt it will be more than a few thousand dollars per victim, quite possibly less. That's typical payout. It will have no effect on the law enforcement agencies involved.
What will have an effect is for the city and county officials involved to direct their law enforcement agencies to cease and desist suppression of lawful protest and dissent and to enforce sanctions against law enforcement agencies and officers who persist. That will happen if the people of the juridictions involved demand it.
Whether they will or not, quien sabe?
