Massive police raids on suspected protesters in Minneapolis

Several "hippie homes" are raided this morning by semi-automatic-weapon-wielding police squads.

The letters thread is now closed.

Yes!

About time society decided not to let troublemakers disrupt other people's gatherings. Enough of the noisy tiny minority who could care less about the rights of others.

So when are elephantman, shooter242 and tiberius going to be arrested?

(They are tiny, noisy, a minority, and they've amply demonstrated that they do not care about the rights of others.)

Our GOP Police State

This is our nation and our rights slipping away from us under the watch of George W. Bush. The raids are above all a shocking waste of taxpayer money even as they violate the rights of citizens. I hope a local newspaper can get information on what this cost the local community. It's a disgrace that undoubtedly some real crimes occurred during this time that raids were conducted. Crimes committed by REAL criminals instead of just people exercising their First Amendment rights.

If indeed charges amount to no more than fire code violations, there should be lawsuits.

"Protesters"

Won't the "protesters" in Minneapolis-St. Paul look great if, in the aftermath of another major hurricane, they are protesting "Christians," and the military, and "AIPAC" and "telecom immunity" while the Bush Administration is in New Orleans trying to help the city?

It'd be the definition of "petulance," wouldn't it?

Will Sean Penn take his shotgun and his rowboat to the RNC?

@shooter242

Remember when McCain had to lay off campaign workers because he was short of funds?

(or click on signature)

July 3, 2007 : The presidential campaign of Senator John McCain, the Arizona Republican who once seemed poised to be his party’s nominee in 2008, acknowledged yesterday that it was in a political and financial crisis as a drop in fund-raising forced it to dismiss dozens of workers and aides and retool its strategy on where to compete.

-----

So you're dead wrong about the presidential campaigners - and that includes Obama - having no experience about having to meet a payroll.

Of course, if you're right about something ever, most of the elderly here will probably have heart attacks from the shock.

Heh

Regarding jurisdictional issues, any local PD agency can call on surrounding city and county agencies for "assistance" and it probably is under the aegis of some federal task force in this case.

I'm not sure what Cargo is on about with Amy G but he does have a point here, later backed up by maotsetung and I'm sure William would chime in if he were still here. There is a very real possibility that an agent provocateur had his or her hand in all of this. I think it is safe to say all these groups were infiltrated. Too easy to do.

Someone want to tell me why that is? Maybe some of these left-wing heroes are really serving an entirely different agenda.

There was the case here in California of the undercover officer at Peace Fresno, but he just infiltrated and spied on them.

Tuesday, Oct. 9 --Members of the organization Peace Fresno were recently shocked when they found out that one of their participants, Aaron Stokes, died in a motorcycle accident. An obituary published in the local newspaper in late August showed Aaron's picture. But the name under the picture was not Aaron Stokes. It was Aaron Kilner - an undercover detective who was working for the Fresno County Sheriff's department. He was also a member of the local anti-terrorism unit. Kilner was 26 years old and the father of two girls.

Peace Fresno activists are concerned that an undercover officer attending their meetings is in violation of their personal liberties and civil rights. Fresno County sheriff Richard Pierce would not answer whether or not Kilner was attending meetings but asserted that he "was not and is not the subject of any investigation by the Fresno County Police Department." But in a statement issued October 2, Pierce declared, "For the purpose of detecting or preventing terrorist activities, the Fresno County Sheriff's Department may visit any place and attend any event that is open to the public, on the same terms and conditions as members of the public generally."

Outlawing dissent

Spying on peace meetings, cracking down on protesters, keeping secret files on innocent people -- how Bush's war on terror has become a war on freedom.

Oh!, Mr. Revolutionary

"It's all a big fucking joke ain't it Jebbie? Nothing is important is it? It's all chuckles. Police raids and "I hope they got the guy I don't like in the UT comments threads!" You are an amazing POS."

You are the big fucking joke, Douchebag.

You are the one constantly berating any ideas "others" might have to combat the fascist trend our government is taking, instead encouraging those "others" to change their tactics to something which would, in your opinion, would be more effective. You never, ever, spell out precisely what those tactics are, only that whatever is being suggested isn't going to work. (and I challenge you to post a link to whereever tou have said what you would do)

You remind me of the guy telling other people to charge, bayonettes fixed, into the machine gun position, and then ducking behind a log, waiting until the dust, smoke and mist of blood clears to assess the damage and call in a report describing your heroics.

I'm going to be rather busy for the rest of the day or so, and probably won't be able to post for a few more days after that, but it's comforting to note that I apparently hit a nerve - probably the only one you have.

Now go forth and lead another charge, adnoto. Be sure to keep your head down. When you pop up, why don't you take a drive to the Twin Cities and tell those who are already there how to better do their thing the adnoto way.

Fellow travelers

Anyone else notice shooter's contention

When people gather that claim the RNC has no right to exist, one prepares for the worst.

Is that phrasing straight out of AIPAC's playbook or what?
