There is one here who is trying to do Lewis Black --- I swear. I do wonder if some of the more edgy comedians try out new material here since it is well known that Glenn will allow almost anything in these comments. (even me)

You are asking the wrong people this question, ask it of the authorities.

This is how a drug raid is conducted. Considering all the years we have been at the drug war (to no avail), the political mood of the country and the level of fear and anger achieved by 8 years of the Bush regime, this should surprise no one. I hope it will keep the NLG, and others, busy for a few years and result in some landmark civil liberties cases. It damn well should. During this kind of raid all weapons are drawn and locked and loaded with the safety off. Maybe they thought Bill Ayers would be there.
In the house that had just been raided, those inside described how a team of roughly 25 officers had barged into their homes with masks and black swat gear, holding large semi-automatic rifles, and ordered them to lie on the floor, where they were handcuffed and ordered not to move.

One quibble: Assault rifles.
I'd bet there were few, if any, actual assault rifles. This isn't Iraq and over there they use the M4 rather than an M16 for confined spaces like buildings and structures. The longer barrels just get in the way, (try swinging one around in a cramped hall or stairway) and there is the concern about penetration if shots are fired. A .223 round will go through the target, the wall behind the target and into a neighbor's house and maybe into a neighbor. I suspect it was something like an H&K MP5 submachine gun, probably chambered for 9MM or .40 caliber, which might look like an assault rifle to the guy on the tape. They are fully automatic but would be set to burst, 3 shots per trigger pull, or single semi. Still a very dangerous weapon and this is obviously overkill for hippies.

Exactly right ....... the cliche that "the people get the govt they deserve" is true.
Nothing can happen in any country unless the people allow it to be so.
So, yes the problem is the american people and not the govt traitors who now run the govt for the benefit of the corporations.
Already conditioned from the time they are in public schools to be good little worker ants ...... and then consume, consume, consume, like a cancer cell, they, like a trained monkey know nothing else to do.
Use the drugs and distractions of television (from professional sports to reality shows to whatever), ipods, video games,etc to deepen the trance of their already asleep minds.
Then side with the corporations in destroying their economy (globalization ....... outsourcing, etc) putting them in a panic about their survival.
Eventually, the people become so concerned about maintaining their income, that they don't give a damn about anything else ......... and protest ???? , they might lose their job.
Primal fear is the primary motivator for unthinking animals and the govt has used they activities of a handful of terrorists to steal the country from its citzens.
Thus, the terrorists were successful in 9/11 ....... more successful than had they blown up and entire city.
And do you think you will ever know who was really behind 9/11 .... and/or acquiesced in the possibilities for its exploitation?
To be a truly independent real human being is to do what is right, no matter the costs.
Apparently, the american people still have it "too good" .....
perhaps when their stomachs are threatened they will move (only in self-interests ....... but they are too stupid to realize what their own self-interests are now) ........ over 250 congress members were fired in the election of 1933 .......maybe only a depression will bring any kind of change.
Only when their freedom is more important to them than their buying power will things change.
