Massive police raids on suspected protesters in Minneapolis

Several "hippie homes" are raided this morning by semi-automatic-weapon-wielding police squads.

The letters thread is now closed.

Know nothings

It has really been bothering me - the charges that Obama is all talk and no action.--kitt

Spoken like someone who has no idea what it's like to meet a payroll, or be directly responsible for anything of consequence. I'm still not voting for McCain, but Palin has more actual executive experience than all three of the other nominees combined. That and having five children(Congress) makes her more qualified than most.

Once again we have a classic demonstration that ignorance is bliss.

"Enemies of common good"

Right.......

Anyone care to compare stats between how many people are hurt by anarchist protests compared to police/military actions? Do police have medics in their ranks who they keep to immediately care for anyone hurt by their actions? Fuck, how badly have people been hurt? The worst I've ever heard of is the woman who was accidentally struck by a brick during the G8 protests in Seattle, who was instantly taken care of by the street medics and never chose to press charges.

Let's keep things in perspective. Most anarchists are not dangerous. Most anarchists don't even go to these protests. They organise, communicate, invent, create and work, dilligently and collectively. They do not oppress, they do not exploit, they do not torture.

Fortunately, as with this action, the police have entirely jumped on the wrong thing. One of the key points of a lot of these actions is the development of networks between activists, the establishment of working organisations and a collective encouragement to keep up the good fight. That's something no amount of police raiding can stop. They lost before they even started.

heru-ur

I thought the "joke" was disgusting when I read it, but you have gone over the top. After all, the fellow who made the joke is here mainly to make bad jokes and derail threads from serious topics. UT is just a 'chat room' to many here and you must get used to it. Hell, several use it just to hone their stand-up act. (did Lewis Black start here?) -- heru-ur

You call it over the top, I call it "pointing out the obvious." I don't give a shit why he is here. If he is willing to make such jokes then he is no better than shooter as far as I am concerned and I am going to let him know it.

FIA and the raids

Minnesota Police Raids

Is there any chance these raids - especially those done without warrants - could be justified by the new FISA law?

-- Beeyl65

Unless people in the raided were receiving their marching orders from outside the United States- a possibility I consider to be quite remote-

No.

You'll have to cut and paste these, note the second link doesn't all fit on one line.

If you have Mozilla Firefox download Linkification. It turns links into clickable links so there will be no need to copy and paste them.

???

About time....

About time society decided not to let troublemakers disrupt other people's gatherings. Enough of the noisy tiny minority who could care less about the rights of others.

What is this? A press release from the Chinese Army?

"Good Heavens"

But to be very, very honest, I'm not sure I can be shocked about this kind of thing anymore when I hear about it in this context. You mean they arrested innocent middle class white people (and then let them go)? Good heavens!

-- omooex

Some have been arrested and are being held. They'll likely continue to be held until at least Tuesday when a judge is available. I don't know if any or all of them are middle class. And I don't know if all of them are "White".

I didn't write what you quoted me on. I copied it from the link that posted Obama's activity in the Senate. Go back and do your home work, read what is in the link.

Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 570 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress.

Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 15 bills that have become LAW since he joined the Senate in 2005.

Senator Obama has also introduced amendments to 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.

Calm down, Adnoto

I don't give a shit why he is here. If he is willing to make such jokes then he is no better than shooter as far as I am concerned and I am going to let him know it.

-- adnoto

You're stubbornly missing the point of the "joke". He was making fun of you because you're always talking about 'taking it to the man', so it would stand to reason that you were at one of these houses readying yourself to 'take it to the man' unless you're all talk. 'The Man', in cases like this, are a bunch of thugs. We know that. But the way you go on about how tough you are, one has to wonder which side you're on.

Anyway, the joke was that the all talk Adnoto was quite likely safely elsewhere while all of this was going on. The joke was not a gleeful hope that Adnoto had been arrested. Really, Adnoto, it's not all about you.

@ Heru-ur

...Hell, several use it just to hone their stand-up act. (did Lewis Black start here?)

Heru-ur, you do realize that you punctuated your own tirade against people who tell jokes here by telling a joke here, right?

.....!

Know nothings redux.

I didn't write what you quoted me on. I copied it from the link that posted Obama's activity in the Senate. Go back and do your home work, read what is in the link.

Ok I did. So what? You parroted something somebody else said which is an apt description for what Obama did by asking for credit on someone else's work.

Regardless of who said it first, I presume you posted it in agreement. That just makes you a group of know nothings, rather than an individual.

Pushing a button, yes or no, is not executive experience. That goes for all three of the Senators.
