The decay of serious journalism and Rachel Maddow's new show

The New Republic -- of all places -- laments the loss of "nuance or intellectual rigor" on television as epitomized by MSNBC's troubling decision to give an actual liberal her own show.

Liberal FOX News

MSNBC, chronically low in ratings, made a gamble that liberals wanted their own melo-drmatic, biased, often silly, version of FOX News, and, so far, it seems like a safe bet! If youre into that kind of stuff--enjoy, But I can guarantee you that, esp. after the election, most will be preaching only to the choir! I check FOX once in awhiel to "check on the enemy", but i cant take it very long. Olbermann, Matthews and Maddow ( SO uncomfortable in false eyelashes--sorry--I really DO lik eher!)will be watched by Obama supporters until he loses (I hope not, but I cant exactly give glowing reviews) or wins and doesnt bring, "change, hope, audacity, peace, love, food, homes, .." to the planet. It just leaves one more cable news station that full of it, for people that actually want an unbiased view. There is absolutely nowhere ot get it! The internet?? Sheeee-iiit...when is the last time you went the the FOX Blog to do anythign except flame? I dont either--why cant we have NEWS--like we used to.Like other civilized countries do...I guess, same reason we can thave natl health care.

I don't care about Maddow

She's just another Obot talkinghead together with the rest of MSNBC clowns.

She annoyed me when she said stupidly that Barry Soetoro attracts crowd where ever he goes while McCain goes to where the crowd is to claim that they are there for you. Hello...did you clowns even mention that when Soetoro spoke in Germany they gave a free concert of the most popular German band and free food????

Whatever....now we're seeing though his plummeting polls that BS is all smoke and mirror just like the initial of his real name.

Ooops...

I mean "...McCain goes where the crowd is to claim that they are there for HIM."

It is amazing people like you want me to reach across nd be nice while whites like you keep the power of the mike, pen and talk. You don't want to deal with the truth of what I said and that is telivision, radio and newspapers are just white speak. Even on so called liberal stations whites frame the issues. From Air-America to Salon white folks voice is all that is heard.

On MSNBC they may have black guest but the people who frame the questions and get the last words are white.

The news is white people all the time. Is there any wonder why many whites don't and won't vote for a black person. The media is micro look at the larger society. White people don't think blacks have the intellect to discuss or host a show which deals with issues this nation has to face.

Then whites have the audacity to get upset when blacks decide to go their own way. Then we get accused of not reaching across the aisle. Everyday blacks get slapped in the face by net-work and cable media.

How many African-American writers and commentators are on this so called liberal site Salon. This is not a liberal site it is just like all the others just white.

People of the Lie

nick wrote (Thursday, August 21, 2008 08:21 AM):

"These people [the professional liars of the corporate media] are the ones who want to lecture me about the lack of civility in modern discourse. Maybe if they would stop fucking lying so much, I would think about fucking listening to them.

"Sorry for the rant. Just got on my nerves."

No need to apologize, nick, for such an incisively apt backhanding of the professional liars who comprise the rank and file of the US government's fifth column, the US corporate media.

I hope it was at least as satisfying for you to write it as it was for me to read it.

Where is there serious minded objective commentary anymore?

With Tim Russert's death, I don't see anyone doing serious objective commentary or political coverage anymore. As I have tuned into the election recently, I don't see any options out there but slanted reporting from Fox News and MSNBC. What that leaves us with is a place to go here what we already think shouted back at us. That leaves no place for discourse.

The most disappointing thing to me is that Chris Matthews, who used to seem willing to turn his fire on everyone, has bought into MSNBC's shift as well. All that's left is CNN's boring coverage. It's too bad.

Colbert

Actually come to think of it, Stephen Colbert with his conservative rhetoric and underlying liberal message might actually be the most balanced pundit on tv. He turns the fire on all his guests, and doesn't let people off easy, and still makes me laugh. It's sad that Comedy Central might actually have the best election coverage.

That Political Knife Artist David Gregory

Reilly wrote (Thursday, August 21, 2008):

"Hell yeah she's [TNR's Sacha Whoever] right about Gregory.

"That flame-thrower David Gregory is practically an anarchist. I understand that time-slot was originally a toss-up between him and Greg Palast, but Palast couldn't hold a candle to Gregory's unrestrained, anti-authoritarian bravado.

"Personally, when I want my political coverage out of the mainstream and on the edge, unvarnished and in-your-face; when I want an unorthodox, unapologetic, unconventional, take-no-prisoners, cat-spit, knife-fight with the corrupt, entrenched, Beltway establishment powers-that-be, I turn to David Gregory, the iconoclasts' iconoclast.

"I'm sure it's the same with most of you."

I don't know what it will take to erase from my mind's eye the gag-me-with-a-spoon spectacle of David "Knee Pads" Gregory undulating on the dance floor with Karl Rove at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, but if anyone has a suggestion, please send it along asap, because I'm getting really tired of throwing up a little bit in the back of my throat every time I think about it.

Thanks in advance for any help.
