NATO Expansion

I linked to the Billmon piece on Georgia while reading the Ivins story.

It is once more apparent that American foreign policy with European acquiessence is extraordinarily irresponsible. I watched CNN news this morning while doing my regular athletic club workout. They had a story about Condoleeza Rice and the Poland anti-ballistic missile shield. She stated that the Russians had nothing to fear from the siting of the missiles in Poland. She then said, I kid you not, that the Russians should not be concerned because the missiles were not aimed at anyone.

We build a sixty billion dollare missile system that probably won't work, deploy it, and then proudly procclaim it is not aimed at anyone. Don't worry.

When will Americans wake up and realize that the political elites, the press, the intelligence agencies, and the think tank intellectuals are totally bankrupt. There is no salvation by the likes of Obama and the Democrats. They whole-heartedly partake of the stupidity.

It was bracing to watch Bacevich on the Bill Moyers show. The problem is that there is no practical consequence in this country when people like Bacevich confront the public with reality. Folks immediately start rationalizing why they must accept the dysfunctional two party system because they have no choice.

We are digging ourselves a deeper hole every day and do not have the courage to say "No More!"
