The FBI's emerging, leaking case against Ivins

The more revelations there are in the Bruce Ivins case, the more questions there are.

Bentonite vs. Dentonite

Bentonite - Handy stuff. Some interesting uses:

Bentonite can be used in cement, adhesives, ceramic bodies, and cat litter...Bentonite clay is also used in pyrotechnics to make end plugs and rocket nozzles, and can also be used as a therapeutic face pack for the treatment of acne/oily skin. Clearasil, an acne cream, uses bentonite as an agent to absorb excess sebum, clearing pores.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bentonite

Now, on to Dentonite:

Dentonite Toothpaste

(Licence To Kill)

Gadget: Dentonite Toothpaste

Movie: Licence To Kill

Owner: James Bond

Status: Used

Plastic explosives disguised as ordinary toothpaste, this stuff is stronger than anything you'll ever brush your teeth with. This toothpaste would be enough to remove the thickest build-up of plaque, as well as your head and shoulders.

Use

Bond smothered the paste around the bullet-proof window of Franz Sanchez office at his casino in Isthmus. Bond placed the cigarette come detonator fuse amongst the paste and detonated it from another rooftop, just before he was about to assassinate Sanchez with the camera gun.

Specs

The explosive kit consisted of a tube of plastic explosive paste mixed with ordinary toothpaste as a disguise. The detonator was disguised as a packet of cigarettes, one cigarette was the fuse, which needed to be inserted into a blob of paste, inside the pack was electronics and a radio receiver. A remote control (like a garage door control) could detonate the explosives from a maximum range of 200 yards.

So, if James Bond had had an acne problem, then we might have had bentonite in the dentonite.....or maybe not.

I think we should send some toothpaste to Ross, complete with a letter written by the cat, warning him not to light a cigarette while brushing his teeth.

The USDOJ Link Regarding Ivins' Email

This is getting my full attention.

Houston, we have a problem.

Derbig -- the emails

Derbig -- can you give me the specific link to Glenn's citing of the emails? I'm having trouble finding them. Why hasn't this been discussed until now? That particular email is exceedingly damning and difficult to brush off. I may have to do a 180 -- I'm waiting for more information.

Is the government capable of fabricating an e-mail?

How certain can we be that Ivins sent this e-mail at the time alleged?

Has the FBI Got It Right on Ivins?

It's possible that this USDOJ document dump will force everyone who has been skeptical of the FBI charges against Ivins to revise their opinions. I'm still evaluating, but that particular document I just posted a link to is a stunner. Perhaps Glenn will be able to desconstruct the document, find holes in it. Perhaps not.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 12:25 PM

@sean

I wrote in haste, but I will look for it and send in the link. It might have been in "comments" and that would be hard to find.

I do remember the letters being discussed, the conference or seminar (or something) which prompted Ivins letters being discussed, along with the possibility of the letter about the Rabbi being ironic in tone.

And of course, the letters seem to be in contradiction to his Democratic reg. and his other interests.

Let me see if I can find that.

DOJ briefing

MSNBC says it will start any minute now.

I guess they don't want us to read Camus.

One of the items seized after the search of the Ivins' home was a copy of The Plague by Albert Camus. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D92CUT1G1&show_article=1

Derbig -- Ivins' email

Derbig -- I was under the impression that that email first saw the light of day for the general public today -- am I wrong?

Two Ivins' quotes have emerged that match him with the profile I posted a few hours ago: he appears to be a militant supporter of the neoconservative/Christian Zionist agenda. I am having great trouble reconciling these two quotes with the fact that he was a Democrat. The cognitive dissonance on these points is loud. I am frankly confused.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 12:34 PM

Which email?

The affadavit for a search warrant contains a lot of email. Which one is the damning one?

The posting from goldenphoenix111 in 2007 indicates that apparently Ivins' obsession with KKG was ongoing.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 12:41 PM

irrc, the letter to the editor about the "chosen people" apparently referred to a "friendship panel"

held locally in which the Rabbi/Jewish representative refused to "be friendly" with the Iman/Moslem represenative ...

Out of context the comments sound more "global" than they were ... which was in response to a specific incident.

=========================================================

Sounds to me like the FBI crossed the line into "depraved indiference" wrt Ivins safety and well-being ... disgraceful...

Sounds like they WANTED him dead ...

Macgupta - Ivins' email

Macgupta:

See this document:

http://www.usdoj.gov/amerithrax/08-431SWAffidavit.pdf

There you will find this quote from an Ivins' email:

QUOTE

Ivins sent an e-mail to [REDACTED] a few days before the anthrax attacks warning [REDACTED] that “Bin Laden terrorists for sure have anthrax and sarin gas” and have “just decreed death to all Jews and all Americans,” language similar to the anthrax letters warning “WE HAVE THIS ANTHRAX ... DEATH TO AMERICA ... DEATH TO ISRAEL.”

END QUOTE

If I were an FBI investigator, that email would sure as hell get my attention.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 12:46 PM

Question

Was Ivins' daughter (now age 24) a member of kappa kappa gamma?

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 12:49 PM

RMR-1029

To me, if the RMR-1029 flask details are correct, then that is really significant.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008 12:54 PM

Susan - Was Ivins' a Roman Catholic Christian Zionist?

Susan,

The quote below expresses an ideological point of view that is consistent with Christian Zionism:

QUOTE

Rabbi Morris Kosman is entirely correct in summarily rejecting the demands of the Frederick Imam for a "dialogue." By blood and faith, Jews are God's chosen, and have no need for "dialogue" with any gentile. End of "dialogue."

END QUOTE

John Hagee could have written these words.

I don't know that Ivins was a Christian Zionist, but now I am wondering. Several leading neoconservatives are Roman Catholics (like Ivins) who hold strong Christian Zionist beliefs (William Bennett, Rick Santorum and others). This dimension of Ivins' life needs to be explored to see if any more telling quotes turn up.

In any case, the FBI case against Ivins has been substantially bolstered with this document dump. I follow the data wherever it leads, and don't hesitate to turn on a dime when the facts warrant it.

Obviously, the email needs to be put under a microscope to verify its authenticity.
