Feds reveal details of Ivins investigation

From the Frederick News Post

Fort Detrick scientist Bruce Ivins became a “person necessitating further investigation” in regard to the anthrax attacks shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, for several reasons, according to federal documents released at 2 p.m. today.

The reasons include:

  • at the time of the attacks, he was the custodian of a large flask of highly purified anthrax spores that possess certain genetic mutations identical to the anthrax used in the attacks.
  • Ivins has been unable to give investigators an adequate explanation for his late night laboratory work hours around the time of both anthrax mailings.
  • Ivins has claimed that he was suffering serious mental health issues in the months preceding the attacks, and had told a co-worker that he had “incredible paranoid, delusional thoughts at times” and feared that he might not be able to control his behavior.
  • Ivins is believed to have submitted false samples of anthrax from his lab to the FBI for forensic analysis in order to mislead investigators.
  • at the time of the attacks, Ivins was under pressure at work to assist a private company to that had lost its FDA approval to produce an anthrax vaccine the Army needed for U.S. troops, and which Ivins believed was essential for the anthrax program at USAMRIID.
  • Ivins sent an e-mail to [REDACTED] a few days before the anthrax attacks warning [REDACTED] that “Bin Laden terrorists for sure have anthrax and sarin gas” and have “just decreed death to all Jews and all Americans,” language similar to the anthrax letters warning “WE HAVE THIS ANTHRAX ... DEATH TO AMERICA ... DEATH TO ISRAEL.”

Judith Miller and Neocon Psyops

Lysias -- and Judith Miller is famous for promoting lies, in collaboration with Lewis Lobby and the New York Times, which helped trick Americans into invading and occupying Iraq. We are looking here at a massive neoconservative psyop all around with regard to every aspect of 9/11 and its exploitation. The framing of Bruce Ivins for the 9/11 anthrax attacks is almost certainly part of the continuing pattern of manipulation and lies.

His death also now reads clearly as either a circumstantial accidental overdose or suicide-while-intoxicated, not something that resulted from any serious thought or plan.

I, too, question how much thought or planning was involved. Mr. Ivins had to be an extremely intelligent man to land the job he had. If an intelligent person were to choose to commit suicide, I imagine they would research their potential method of choice. Some cursory research on death-by-acetaminophen/Tylenol reveals that it's quite a long and painful process. It destroys your liver quickly but it still takes at least 2 days and usually 4 days to finally die.

I'm not saying it's impossible (intelligence and suicide are generally considered to be mutually exclusive), but it certainly seems like a rather strange way kick the bucket...

@Silash

(intelligence and suicide are generally considered to be mutually exclusive),

Oh, really? That would be a guideline that could be lifesaving.

AP take on released docs

AP By LARA JAKES JORDAN and MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writers 10 minutes ago (see sig)

WASHINGTON - Army scientist Bruce Ivins had custody of highly purified anthrax spores with "certain genetic mutations identical" to the poison that killed five and rattled the nation in 2001, according to documents unsealed Wednesday in the government's investigation.

Also, Ivins was unable to give investigators "an adequate explanation for his late laboratory work hours around the time of" the attacks, and he apparently sought to mislead investigators on the case, according to an affidavit filed by one government investigator.

Bruce Ivins' Email

If this email exists -- and we need to see the full document, fully verified -- it could be quite significant. Did Ivins write any other emails with similar content? This can't be swept under the rug, and is more telling the evidence that the FBI has produced to date.

QUOTE

Ivins sent an e-mail to [REDACTED] a few days before the anthrax attacks warning [REDACTED] that “Bin Laden terrorists for sure have anthrax and sarin gas” and have “just decreed death to all Jews and all Americans,” language similar to the anthrax letters warning “WE HAVE THIS ANTHRAX ... END QUOTE

This email needs to be matched with another comment Ivins' made in a letter to the Frederick News Post:

QUOTE

Rabbi Morris Kosman is entirely correct in summarily rejecting the demands of the Frederick Imam for a "dialogue." By blood and faith, Jews are God's chosen, and have no need for "dialogue" with any gentile. End of "dialogue."

END QUOTE

What other statements has Ivins' made that express this theme? Glenn Greenwald should be looking into this.

My quick take after some skimming

After some very quick skimming, I see spikes of afterhours activities by Ivins around the times of the mailings but dropping off just afterwards.

It also appears that they did recover guns and body armor during searches of the residence while he was committed.

They appear to have email corrspondence where he looked unstable prior to 9/11.

They have a new theory on a Greendale School through a conservative Catholic organization he got a magazine from and to which he made donations.

The theory on attacking Daschle and Leahy is that they were “pro-abortion Catholics” and Ivins’ wife was president of the local right to life group.

Gotta go read a lot more...

@Sean- Ivins e-mails

Those e-mails were covered a couple of days ago by Glenn. Go to the main page and scroll down.

Like Joyce said of Ulysses, it's recircumnambulation.

Who knew a 6-letter word could be so powerful. Maybe I should be wearing the unitard and tights.
