  • Predicted next news flash...

In winded and breathless voices: News flash!!! Bruce Ivins also possessed the toxic liquid di-hydrogen-oxide which is a powerful solvent and can be 'highly toxic' officials have said and has killed or been implicated in the deaths of millions or perhaps billions of people in the last thousand years. Small amounts are used in some areas of research but what troublees investigators is the massive quantity of the substance that was stored in his office and the haphazard way in which it was stored. It was found in small plastic roughly flask shaped containers stacked in the office closets. The containers were not viewed as being 'child resistant' and could have potentially leaked their contents and caused massive damage to the building and anything in the floors immediately below if they fell to the floor.

Officials also found several boxes of yellow sticks containing a long chained molecule that has been linked to several subversive groups and has facilitated attacks on the government and the many agencies that are working hard to keep America safe. These devices have been phased out of most research labs and their use is viewed as an oddity in today's modern research offices due to their highly destructive potential for lab equipment and research materials. Their use is viewed by many researchers as reckless, costly and potentially extravagant. There are more stable and easier to work with alternatives that are less expensive and easier to track.

'Unnamed White House officials' said that the combined stash of chemicals amounted to a 'treasure trove' of agents that could rain destruction on the country. They pledged a full scale investigation into who supplied these items to a known psychopath and whether government funds were improperly used to procure these substances.

They assure us that the substances were handled with all due care and that never was the public in danger. All road blocks were cleared within hours after the cleanup operation was concluded. This case continues to produce many unanswered questions.

    Film at eleven...

(What were the substances? Di-hydrogen-oxide is the chemical name for water: H2O. The yellow sticks? Ordinary 'number 2' pencils.)

It all depends on what is actually in the spore material. There is moderately compelling evidence that the material is just spores and therefore could be produced by many microbiologists.

However, there are so many conflicting reports that it can't be said with absolute certainty that the material is not highly engineered. If it is, then Spertzel is really scary and seems to just taunt the world from the neocon perspective. The Kelly quote even makes that part worse. Spertzel speaks with the voice of authority but always comes out with something that would support the neocon agenda--exactly in the way the attack was used to strengthen the case for invading Iraq.

The one early sample (New York Post) that was recovered could well be less pure, based on most reports I've read. The material that killed Robert Stevens wasn't recovered. He died of inhalation anthrax and coworkers also got inhalation anthrax. The building also was heavily contaminated, so that sample was probably fairly pure. The Daschle and Leahy samples were described as extremely pure.

  • The Campaign to Break Bruce Ivins

PTA Mom -- His tormenters drove him crazy with a systematic campaign of harassment and psychological warfare and then said, look -- he's crazy. Is that what happened? That's the appearance so far. The people who knew him best, especially his co-workers over the years, considered him to be perfectly sane, until his life was deliberately destroyed.

  • DoD News Briefing with Geoff Morrell from the Pentagon Briefing Room, Arlington Va. (08-05-2008)

In a Pentagon press briefing today, spokesperson Geoff Morrell said the U.S. will detain Hamdan regardless of the verdict:

MORRELL: Even if he were acquitted of the charges that are before him, he would still be considered an enemy combatant and therefore would continue to be subject to continued detention. Of course, that said, he would also have the opportunity to go before the administrative review board and they could determine whether he is a suitable candidate for release or transfer.

But in the near term, at least, we would consider him an enemy combatant and still a danger and would likely still be detained for some period of time thereafter. ...

WHA.... sounds to me like Hamdan needs to change his name to Joseph K.

All this hype over the lyophylizer is just more smoke and mirrors. Fifty years ago I was using a lyophylizer quite routinely for freeze-drying benign biological material. Jeebus, that's how they make instant coffee! The only difference in this case is that you could be dehydrating a virulent pathogen so you'd better be careful how and where you do it.

Apparently Ivins used the lyophylizer primarily to dry his vaccine samples using an accepted technique. Not sure I'd want to do it in my kitchen but it's certainly nothing to get their knickers in a twist over. And he signed out for it. Oh, but I forgot -- he sometimes worked late at night and on weekends. Dedicated scientists never do that kind of thing!

  • Just for one day

    Thanks cynicalp & RMP

This whole thing is about to implode. Impeachment is now a necessity to protect the physical security of the country.

    PTA Mom,

    You Rock!!

    ---

    I can remember
    Standing
    By the wall
    And the guns
    Shot above our heads
    And we kissed
    As though nothing could fall
    And the shame
    Was on the other side
    Oh we can beat them
    For ever and ever
    Then we can be Heroes

    Just for one day

  • "lyopholizer"

    Its spelled "lyophilizer"

The rest of the post is damning for both the media and the FBI

  • So...

he had a machine, away from the lab, that would allow him to do the thing he's accused of.

Gosh, this just gets more and more complex.

  • Hillerman and the FBI

I am a great fan of Tony Hillerman, but I have personal experience of a more sinister side of feds. 28 years ago a very good friend of mine disappeared from his job as a park ranger in southeast Arizona. He was on duty and went out to check the trails, a normal duty particularly in the quiet of a winter Sunday. It was assumed, with some witness testimony, that he had interrupted a drug transfer on an extremity of Chiracahua National Monument. He was federal law officer, having served at several park Service locations as the law-enforcement officer. the FBI declined to investigate, leaving the job to an overburdened rural county sheriff. At that time, the political scene in Arizona was dominated by drug trafficking (and may still be) as documented the Don Bolles case. Ironically in those Reagan years, the only big-time political help his wife received was from Sen. Barry Goldwater and from released convict John Ehlichman of Watergate fame. Don't assume incompetence, just follow the facts on this one.
