Doctor Ivins is still dead, the FBI once again tranished, and if the past year has been any guide, the Executive Branch will simply ignore any and all summons before Congress. The Bush Administration will run out the clock or claim this is election year politicking.
Let me be clear: I fully support Congress initiating a full inquiry, with hearings and subpenas and whatnot. But I also want to be realistic about how much (or little) Congress will be able to get out of the Executive Branch on this, especially given the bombshell from Ron Suskin's new book and how this mess ties into the Administration's march to war. Under these circumstances, anyone in the know within the White House or elsewhere is tossing their careers into the garbage if they testify before Congress.
The country needs an accounting of this. I'm just not certain we'll ever get one.
