Journalists, their lying sources, and the anthrax investigation

The death of Bruce Ivins raises far more questions than it answers

Hey, walter_map

The Republicans, by contrast, went quietly about their business, because they knew they were not.

There's only one dot to connect here, people.

Uh...that's not what I heard the other day. Seems as though our Uncle Dick Cheney was so scared of getting anthrax, he decided to torture a bunch of brown people until he got over it.

Maybe you missed that one in the huge pile of misinformation in the shit-filled pipeline? I sure didn't.

Conspiracy...

theorists unite.

Word is Oswald and Elvis are involved too.

Glenn ...

Have you ever testified before Congress before? ... I think everyone should call Conyers .. Leahy .. & Holt on Monday .. and tell them that Glenn should be called to testify before Congress on the Anthrax investigation ... he can lay it all out for them ... and tell them about the TradMed's complicity .. especially ABC

-In a dictatorship that means about as much as being the host of a bridge club.-

The Karachi Bridge Club is very nice, I hear.

tiberius's skepticism

...is right on time. You have your troll creds lined up nice and neat for the Inspector. All's right with the world.

Oh, but too bad you got nothin'. Not a damned thing. No information to share; no facts, links, sources, or ACTUAL credibility except to mention conspiracies, Oswald and Elvis.

You ARE pretty good comic relief. I'll give you that any day.

I've been deliberately avoiding...

Reading the MSM coverage of this unfolding story, because I'm reasonably confident that the information we'll see being 'brought to light' over the next several days will continue to be highly suspesct.

I couldn't help but notice however that our recently deceased suspect was a known danger to himself and others and was a prime suspect in a multiple murder investigation when he was released from a mantel institution to complete freedom.

Am I the only one who finds this odd? Certainly if other 'suspected terrorists' can be snatched off the street and detained indefinitely without recourse, they could have picked this guy up any time they wanted.

I think we should at least add this to the list of unanswered questions.

Sunday, August 3, 2008 09:34 AM

The guy was suicided

That's the term for it, Dirks.

And, yes, the most in-depth information I could glean from yahoo.news was that his 'suicide' raises more questions than it answers.

Yeah. Right.

Is Jean Duley violating Ivins' privcy?

Numerous commenters on UT and FDL have criticized social worker Jean Duley for violating a client’s privacy by revealing discussions she had with Ivins. According to AP, the NYT (see below and link at my sig) obtained her testimony to a judge when she was asking for an order of protection. If she had to provide evidence for that protective order, and the judge did not deem it necessary to protect her testimony, then I don’t believe she is guilty of dishonorable conduct as a social worker. She might be complicit in other aspects. Too many have jumped to conclusions, including professionals in the psychology/psychiatric field, without knowing the facts. Glenn is very careful about making any accusations without knowing the facts first, and all commenters would be wise to couch their comments so that they follow his wise lead.

Social worker Jean C. Duley also said Ivins left her a telephone message in mid-July, after she had alerted police to his threats, telling her that that her actions had made it possible for the FBI "to now be able to prosecute him for the murders."

Duley testified at a Frederick County District Court hearing July 24 in a successful bid for a protective order from Ivins. The New York Times obtained a recording of the hearing and posted on its Web site Saturday.

The "Profession" of Journalism

With exceptions, most journalists in the Beltway would rather protect their sources than the truth. A lot of their energy is career driven and they don't see themselves as an independent part of our community who act as watchdogs. Driven by personal ambition to become charter members of the Beltway Gasbags they have a vested interest in government propaganda.

True: the likes of Ricks, Priest, Pincus, Klein and Tumulty exist in the Beltway. But most of them are part of the worst political teams on television and in print.

You see...

As an on/off again journalist, I see no very little issue in revealing a source who has lied to me. There is a compact in providing anonymity for information--I will protect your identity in exchange for FACTUAL information. If that pact is broken by the source, why should the journalist feel obliged to hold up his or her end?

As for ABC, I think this is a matter of bruised egos. They done messed up and are too prideful to admit it. Journalists and their egos are sad affairs.

The guy was suicided

I suppose, but I find it more interesting that our "Global war on Terror" doesn't appear to be all that global. Compare how this guy was treated compared to the money launderer from Peoria. One's suspected of sending money to a terrorist organization. The other is suspected of committing a specific deadly act of terrorism.

Yet, until his untimely death, our real terrorist still had his full compliment of Constitutional Rights unavailable to a credit card scammer who is now an 'enemy combatant' by virtue of his financial transactions.

Because...

This is yet another case where the establishment media possesses -- yet steadfastly conceals -- some of the most critical facts about what the Government has done, and insists on protecting the wrongdoers.

It's because 'teh government' is in a prime position to help the 'establishment media' with favors and mo' money.

This, as well as an incredibly long list of 'coincidences' and 'mistakes' surrounding 9/11/2001 make me totally believe that it was an inside job with the help of the Saudi's and that, given the other wild ideas that previous administrations have come up with to provoke military action seems like the only 'logical' conclusion.

Way way too much of the 'official administration story' sounds just like that: a 'story'. A fable, a convenient lie told to hide the truth.

The fact that Mr. Bush and his administration wears the 9/11 incident as a badge of honor and is so damn secretive pretty much seals the deal for me. They knew. They approved. They participated. They planned. They covered it up. How much clearer can it be?

Hi NSA! Like what I wrote? Don't bounce the check to AT&T this time, ehh...

Does Ted Olsen know that Cheney sacrificed his wife for political gain? Probably... :-(
