Journalists were warned by high government officials, unnamed, that Cipro was advised. From the Oral Histories of the NYC firefighters, an "engineering type" person from Guiliani's admin within an hour after the planes struck the WTC was warning fire officials that the buildings were in imminent danger of falling. This is significant because the fire chiefs relied on their years of experience assessing risk before sending hundreds of firefighters into the building and onto upper floors where there would be no hope of escape in the event of a catastrophic failure of the structure. Had they assessed such a risk, they would not have jeopardized their people. They sent their men and women into the buildings because they assessed the risk to be acceptable, expecting perhaps localized collapses and typical office building fire conditions. 118 eyewitnesses among the firefighters gave 178 accounts of conditions that were not typical. They related accounts of explosions, some picking up and throwing the subjects, pelting them with debris, shock waves of burning hot gases, long before the collapse started, in areas of the building well removed from the fires and damage.

This official from the Guiliani admin was advising fire officials contrary to the fire chiefs' experience and expertise. Who was this guy? What information did he have that was not available to the fire chiefs? The question of who had special information in both the anthrax attack and the demolition of the WTC, and what that information was, is very significant. Warnings were given in both cases. These warnings could be taken as an attempt to save lives in the knowledge that lives would likely be in severe jeopardy.

No other information, just that one statement.

They deleted a bunch of comments, including at least one of mine, but they seem to have relented since.

Giuliani's current fable in response to his being told that the Towers were to collapse (and failing to pass that info along the chain of command, including fire chiefs and the fighters sent to their deaths) is that [paraphrase]:

My understanding is that the engineer was saying that over a long period of time such fires and damage could lead to a collapse.

Talk about your parcing. Almost as good as Lucky Larry Silverstein's explanation of what he meant by the decision to "pull it" in reference to WTC7:

. . . to pull the contingent of fire fighters.

Remarkable since no fire fighters had not been in the building since before 9:00 am.

Finally don't forget the nearly 45 minutes that Cheney, who was in command in the emergency bunker, watched an unidentified aircraft approach Washington and--despite two other terrorist attacks by planes earlier that morning--did nothing to warn any government employees to evacuate.

These people were murdered, while Cheney and Giuliani watched.

Not surprisingly, the Anthrax case hasn't struck anyone over at the rightwing blogs as a major story.

Or even a story.

Only a few random rumors in Chickenhawk land regarding the alleged Mad Scientist.

Seven years ago, the Anthrax mailings made all of these keyboard warriors head for cover under their desks for six months.

Now, with the biggest break in this unsolved case, hitting the papers on Thursay - Silence. Almost total silence!

In Singapore a favourite method of dispensing with political insiders, those who are ministers or the like, belonging to the ruling party, if needed to be silenced are given sleeping pills forcibly; then an elaborate story is printed in the local newspapers, owned by the ruling party, about fake suicide notes, etc. The suicide closes whatever incident that requires a cover-up.

Let's see. Ivins is now, according to the M$M line, the only suspect in a terrorist event that killed five people and cost the country billions of dollars in lost productivity, even shutting down the Senate Office Building. He dies under less than straightforward circumstances and there won't be an autopsy? If this guy gets cremated before there is an autopsy, I'm headed to the tinfoil haberdashery.

I recall that Judy Miller appeared on Larry King a day or two aftet 9/11 and talked about the possibility of biological attacks in the US, including anthrax. At the time, it seemed to me, she was needlessly frigtening an already jolted populace.
