Karl Rove's media birds chirp about Obama's "arrogance"

The press's personality-obsessed coverage of elections is as predictable as it is destructive and depressing.

The letters thread is now closed.

Keep "rising above it"

Yep. That'll work. Just like it's worked in all the other presidential elections. As I've said, this looks like Kerry redux. We're too "civilized" to get down in the mud and wrestle those repugnican alligators to the death. So we'll just get our faces chomped off once again. Unbelievable!!!

@ Joe Klein's conscience

-...are you aware tnat Brian Williams is an admitted dittohead? .. Yes .. he admits to listening to OxyCotin man on a daily basis .. so much for the liberal bias-

Thanks for jogging my memory. I now recall that fact from one of Glenn's earlier posts. A not insignificant point that is rather telling; we know that the nation's top 'news' anchors get their talking points from Drudge, the White House and the obese drug addict, and pass them on as 'news' and 'opinion'.

BTW, I was amongst the many UT commenters who visited Williams blog and left behind an outraged comment or two at that time, all of which was studiously ignored by Williams.

Nailed ...

God, if just one of these monkeys on a leash would read this piece and think about it .. if Olbermann would dare to ask Milbank about it .. if CNN would tell Dobbs and Brown and Borger and the rest of their hacks to stop acting like hellhounds out to rip Obama any way they can ... if NBC would tell Gregory and Williams to act like journalists for a change ... if, if ... none of it will happen. But there is at least one person we can look back on who told the truth while the MSM weasels were handing us yet another sociopath for President.

McCain Ad vs Obama AD

Obama's Ad is clearly better than McCain's, Britney Paris AD. Obama's points's out McCain's failures, then follows up with his own positive policies. McCain's Ad shows cheering international & U.S. crowds cheering ..Obama, but McCain never talks about his own policies. AD Rule number one: don't play up the competition more than yourself. It may backlash.

Is the word "arrogant" just a code word of "uppity". I guess "elitist" appeals those McCain supporters who hate educated, intelligent leaders. God forbid we have a leader who can think through ideas. This comment by republican Ms Eisenhower sums it up: "Obama seems like a leader who can deal with challenges that are highly complex, nuanced and interconnected,..he has the language and communications skills and the temperament to engage a set of world leaders who are his generation." She pretty much says McCain is not a complex thinker, but an angry old man who is out of touch with the world.

We will end up with 8 more years of Bush policies if McCain is elected. This is only the Democrats to lose reason if the far left far crowd bolts to a third party candidate once again.

Glenn this is a good reason why you and your lefty following may want to think about quit bashing Obama and get behind him.

Obama does have a big advantage over McCain however. Obama's has a highly organized grassroots operation, more money to spend, and is a lot more effective and quicker than Kerry in responding to attacks.

Ladies re: Turdblossom's forked tongue

And surely, somewhere in Texas, there is a brittle dyed-blonde "Christian" who already knows this.

Yes. Her name is Darby.

the Rove incubus is arguably ugly

That brought a snort. Is it possible to laugh and hurl at the same time? While there's no forked tongue visible here, this image isn't too far off:

Omooex:

As of July 16. 2008 it doesn't look like John McCain is fairing so well against 'the colored guy' even in the Bay Area as you stated that he is or might.

Obama holds very large leads among voters in the state’s two largest population centers, Los Angeles County and the San Francisco Bay Area, which collectively comprise a little less than half (44%) of all likely voters statewide. In the Bay Area in particular, Obama leads McCain six to one (73% to 12%). McCain is competitive with Obama only in the Central Valley and in Southern California outside of Los Angeles.

Save us from Candice Brown

I had to quit watching CNN political coverage. I cannot stand watching Candice Brown. Where did she come from? She's such a dip.

Often these stories are planted overseas first

In this case, it was the front page (or online equivalent) of the Daily Telegraph in the UK. Ridiculous ideas are given to the "Washington correspondents" of right-wing foreign newspapers and published verbatim. Then they are pulled and discussed over here as relevant - since Britain's Daily Telegraph published it.

There's a long history of this in various Murdoch and (former) Conrad Black papers around the world.

Of course, if the left did this, they would be arrogant, overseas, non-Americans trying to interfere in the US election.

More incompetence theory ?

"This is probably the single most overlooked, under-appreciated fact in media criticism. Of course, they are hired and then promoted for exactly that reason -- their empty-headedness is an important asset. " GG

That may be true but forgive me for being a little weary of the 'incompetence theory' while the incompetents meet every damned objective.

"Who owns the media" is a better place to start when trying to decipher the truth from a storm of lies, distortions and vapidity that has become the MSM.

That said, regular americans have few friends pointing out and dissecting the fact the MSM is used by the establishment to slice and dice the electorate and I'm just damned happy to have GG setting the record straight .

Nice Guys Finish Last

Sorry to say it, but the only way Obama's gonna win is if he plays this the Chicago way. Luckily, he knows it, as does Axelrod. Of course this will sadden many of his supporters (and give fodder to those who claim his calls for a 'new politics' to be empty rhetoric).

The problem Democrats have faced over the last several years is that most rank-and-file Democrats, and the majority of the party's candidates, believe there's some value to honesty. They try not to lie about their opponent, and they try to tell the truth to the voters (eg: if you want schools, roads & bridges, police & fire protection, a strong military, a liquid social security system, etc., you have to pay taxes -- TANSTAAFL, as Rob't Heinlein used to say.) The GOP, on the other hand, believes that the end -- POWER -- justifies just about any means you want to employ, so they have no qualms with lies, smears, distortions, misstatements, etc.

When you combine these two generally-true statements with a media that has completely abdicated its role as fact-finder for the much easier (and more lucrative) role of process pontificator and handicapper, you get a public who believes the crap the right hurls due to the sheer frequency of its repetition.
