The Washington Post editorial page's latest rule of law sermon

Those who have sanctioned some of the most extreme acts of illegality and human rights abuses continue to condemn other countries for less egregious acts.

The letters thread is now closed.

More Friends and Running-Dog Lackeys .....

of the corporations who control and now have bankrupted this country.

The solution is simple for this one ........ everyone should stop buying the propagandist newsrag.

@Pinky

We deserve better after the destruction of the Bush years and we aren't getting it...

What have we done to deserve better? Why of all people in the world, we are privileged to deserve something better?

I'm at a loss... I request more information.

You have information sufficient to arrive at the same conclusion as I for the Democrat's apparent spinelessness, and have mentioned several of the necessary elements. You simply haven't gone through the motions to draw more than a partial conclusion.

Reconnect the dots, and then connect those dots to the goals and particularly the methods of the global economic and military power structure. They're the major players here; all others are pawns. Assume the worst, and expect that both 9/11 and our current economic problems have been calculated and fomented to achieve a particular result.

While you're thinking about it, you might 'enjoy' this, horrendous as it is:

The message I always got from that was that the leaders do not do the fighting, it is the soldiers. If no one signed up to "protect" their land then there would be no war.

That's "The Universal Soldier", a song by Donovan.

See, I've had a hard time coming up with a reason that the 'opposition party' would be so hollow and spineless. Well, and so brazen and confident.

Everytime you wonder why some of us progressives don't take some principled stand and vote for a candidate more truly in line with our values all I hear is you saying, "Jesus, my guy is a dog in a horse race."

walter_map, macgupta.

I am a strong believer that the current problems are according to plan. Yes, whole heartedly. I only need to see the crystal clear proof when the gas prices 'plummet' before the selection.

I refer to the collective 'we' when I say that 'we deserve better'. See, the Bushist plan mentioned above also seeks to destroy other countries economies as well. Watch the M&A actions of the Bushist connected corporations (Carlyle Group and others). It's a near feeding frenzy out there. Pretty soon, they will own everything of value and they will be either sitting on enough cold cash to survive or able to make the markets support them.

What happens when Wal-Mart pushes out the last of their competition? The prices mysteriously go up. Why? Because they can. No competition. I know my interpretation isn't perfect but it rings true enough.

I also now can't see myself actually voting for McCain (unless the voting machine does it for me). I can't see voluntarily voting for Obama. I don't believe him anymore. My heart aches to say that but I don't. Who will he screw next? How many times must we be slammed before he loses all support? How can he win being such a fucking worthless tool? Oh, I almost got carried away. The Obamabots can do that...

We are losing our Home Depot. Many local restaurants have closed down in the past month alone. It's hitting us hard here and yet Obama isn't leading amongst voters either. Too many sellouts or it hasn't gotten bad enough yet... I shudder to think how bad it would have to get...

Naive. Attempting to force a course reversal is a scenario resulting in almost immediate denouement.

Given the impending economic catastrophe and prospect of totalitarianism, all members of both parties are now pawns, with (possibly) the singular exception of Jay Rockefeller:

@ h_lance

re: "No country has EVER done well by starting with a legal democratic structure, however corrupt or flawed, and having a "revolution" against it."

Please cite some specific examples of revolutions against countries that had "a legal democratic structure" in-place. I do not recall any off the top of my head. So to say that one, if it were to occur, would be a failure seems questionable.

It is also questionable as to whether in fact the United States has a viable "legal democratic structure" any longer. I do not see much evidence of it, and in fact see much evidence against it.

re: "a bit of mild competence may put enough pressure on the brakes to give us time to avoid the cliff"

I'm afraid that we're already well over the edge of the cliff, and that pumping the brakes will have no effect whatsoever on the outcome.

Gravity, as they say, is a bitch.

That's...

So, if you're waiting for change to come from within ....... you're fooling yourself.

That's why I think that things haven't gotten bad enough, yet. Well, either that or the 'average American' has the intelligence of a grey squirrel and shouldn't be allowed within a city block of a voting booth.

I prefer the former. If that proves wrong then the world is already doomed and we might as well squeeze it for all we can get. (Sounds quite Bushist 'republican', don't it. Maybe they know something that the grey squirrels don't/can't.)

Relax

It has come to the attention of President for Life Barak Obama that you may be in need of a vacation. Therefore president for Life Barak Obama would like you invite you to a retreat on a beautiful tropic isle. A Vacation Expediting Team will be at your domicile shortly.

Your tropical getaway will begin with Extreme Yoga. Our team of experts will stretch and bend you in to positions you never thought possible. Literally.

Then we, that is you, will undergo our famous cleansing ritual. Gluten-free and dolphin-safe water will be introduced to your lungs by way of your nostrils. We find this is one of the most value-added ways to help our clients appreciate the true spiritual joy of citizenship.

After that we will break for lunch. Please inform your server of any particular dietary needs.

Then it's meditation time. We will assist in your introspection by providing to you, at taxpayer expense a set of noise blocking headphones and an eyeshade for blocking out annoying light. These are yours to keep indefinitely.

Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
