Gore lost 350.000 democratic votes IN FLORIDA ALONE in 2000As you say, because they voted for Nader instead. Thereby giving Florida to Bush.
How well did that turn out for us? Tell me true!
You're not really going to stand there and tell us Gore equals Bush, are you?
Speak up. Let's hear it from you.
350,000 democrats in Florida alone voted for Bush, Walter.
96,000 *people* voted for Nader... from every political stripe, not just democrats. Are you really this dense?
I happened to vote for Gore that year.
Gore would have been the lesser of two evils. Fortunately for him, he lost. So, he has been able (free) to make a difference.
I guess I am saying that style counts for a lot in human interactions. At least with me. (I wish I had some)-- heru-ur
Not so much taking issue with your take on Totally or your take on what Totally wrote as I am with your take on anything unique about what Totally wrote. But we've already thrashed that out. Cool that Totally said the 'Can't be uttered', and cool that you chimed in to agree. I'm just nonplussed by the obvious.
But you're right in that Glenn says what we all want to say better than how most of us are able to say it. In that light, you're probably also correct or have a point that Totally said what most of us want to say but haven't said it as well as it was said in that comment post.
If nothing else, we have three people on record here telling the truth: Which is that "The troops" includes many who are not only not admirable human beings, but some of them are the most dangerous and most horrid of human beings that the planet is currently populated with.
Our Government has kidnapped people off the street and from their homes and sent them to places like Syria to be tortured for months (including completely innocent people) and then invoked National Security claims to bar them from holding our Government accountable in a court of law. We've disappeared others into secret prisons beyond even the reach of the Red Cross, or encaged them in a lawless black hole on a Cuban island. We've tortured them, sometimes to death, even with the knowledge that many were innocent. We attacked and completely demolished another country that couldn't attack us even if it wanted to. And our President openly declared that he has the power to break our laws, spy on U.S. citizens with no warrants, and indefinitely imprison even our own citizens with no process of any kind. Those are all just facts that aren't really subject to dispute or debate.Worst of all, having done all of that -- not for weeks or months following the 9/11 attacks, but for years, still -- we've collectively decided, without much turmoil or debate, that it should all be forgiven, that none of it should be punished or even investigated, that it's best just to keep these crimes concealed and, when accidentally disclosed, to immunize the criminals. And all of that is being done right out in the open, so that our formal human rights reports are self-evident, almost laughable, farces, and even countries like Zimbabwe, when their governments want to engage in tyrannical acts, can and do rationally point to the U.S. as the leading example which they're following.
This is why I've decided to vote for John McCain for president.
Flame away, but hear me out: All of this evil has been done to us either with the assistance of or knowledge of the 'democrat' party. I have on the wall in my office the cartoon that Oliphant drew on October 7th a few years ago that depicts George Walker Bush standing with a sack over his shoulder labeled 'The Iraq Debate' waving his finger at an emaciated dog saying 'Now, we aren't going to make a big fuss about this, are we?' and the cowering dog saying 'Oh, No, Sir - We are a democrat.' and the little rat/penguin is saying 'The confused opposition.' The caption of the ‘toon is 'The dog that didn't bark.'
Yes. They. Didn't.
Yes. They. Assisted. The. Crimes.
In my mind, every one of them deserves to be replaced by a republican and then hunted down and shot like those poor souls in Tennessee.
The republicans play for keeps. Look at the past 7+ years. Look at the actions of the opposition party. Calling them the 'opposition' is just crazy. Yes, they have won small victories, but the vast bottom line of the Bushist victories far outweighs those of the 'opposition party'.
Adding to this decision is the fact that I feel that I can't trust Barack Obama.
He's 'one of them' that has allowed this to happen. He gave others protection in the senate’s abrogation of its responsibility to reign in the distracted and immature House. Giving Bushist minions blanket immunity was a good idea, only if you're a stock holder. I can see where a decision based on the survival of telecommunications in this country could be made but to give them Carte Blanche immunity was stupid and reckless. The career democrats aren't fit to lead. They can't be trusted and you can't even trust that they are 'real' democrats. Whatever that used to mean.
Yes, a 'democrat' majority is possible in both houses and I predict that president McCain (and his kabuki handlers) will succeed in passing a whole wealth of their pet projects (which consist of further bleeding of the middle class) and that corporate America will continue to do well over the suffering of the people of this country. The rolls of the millionaires will swell and somehow miss the people that used to drive and support the economy.
I predict: gas will go to nearly a dollar a gallon sometime in September or early October. People will be thrilled at the low cost of gas and most staple items. People will be distracted by the disco lights of the GOP parade. Things will start looking up and the heavily gamed stock market will be very bullish for a month or longer (probably longer. You have to really make people believe in magic) and people will forget the ills of the Bush era. McCain (and his kabuki handlers) will be in like Flint. Gas will spike, taxes will fall for businesses and the rich (you have to pay them back for gaming the system so effectively) and same-old-same-old will be the name. Many outgoing Bushist disciples will just change offices and the country will be lucky to survive the passing of John McCain, 'Maverick' to none. The oldest man to be 'elected' president. Won't Cindy make a lovely Nancy?
If the country survives the McCain kabuki administration, then perhaps a real 'Democratic' core will emerge in the houses of politics and proud and powerful 'Democratic' contenders will spring fourth on the political stage (if the kabuki handlers haven't OK'ed political assassinations by then) and win the office of 'President of the United States of America' and sweep Congress and people will be glad that the Democrats are really, and functionally, standing up for the country and the rule of law.
I only hope that I survive the McCain era long enough to see this messiah, this saviour stride out on the stage to take the oath of office and welcome a nearly completely Democratic congress to finally sweep the crimes and stench of the traitorous 'republican' party from our country.
The only danger is that the country could overcompensate for the Bushist Junta and go too far left. One bridge at a time...
