If Barr "spoils it" for anyone it's going to be McCain, not Obama. I don't care about that. McCain loses, that's my goal. Just because you consider social issues "entirely secondary," don't assume that the majority of thoughtful, politically engaged citizens agree with you. Lots of people I know--many of them members of the female half of the human race--still assign these issues high priority. You don't get to decide which issues "define" our "political orientation." We can do that for ourselves, thank you.

Here in Saginaw Michigan, the democrats are worse than the republicans and that isn't saying anything good for the republicans.

We have a republican state rep whose wife is a chamber of commerce exec director and the different between their stand and his is as if cut with a microtome. AAMOF I don't think there IS a difference.

We have 'democrats' who have savaged our local environment and the new Bush league saw of screeching about 'JOBS JOBS JOBS' is working well for cover for all to screw the environment and the working class. Dow Chemical, Dow Corning, GM, Hemlock Semiconductor and Dephi are all ganging up on the environment and the working poor which applies to many more people in this area now. OSHA and unions are two things that are missing here now, as well as benefits for working these 'new age' jobs.

MANY of the state democrats are turds that should be run out of town on a rail but there are way to many people willing and way too eager to vote for these losers to be able to get Michigan out of the toilet.

It is something when the city council, nearly all democrats, opposes (or is cautious about) the dioxin contamination, goes on a Dow 'field trip' and comes back totally convinced that dioxin is harmless, and their opinion hasn't changed.

Debbie Stabenow wins election over a horrendous republican in a surprise upset and she ends up voting for more of the damaging republican weapons of mass starvation than many other dems.

Yes, I have to say that Obama's latest efforts to appear to be moving to the center are extremely troubling to me. He could have still supported striping the immunity out of the FISA giveaway and then voted to kill it outright and reassured my faith in him. What he did was nearly like taking a lighter to the constitution on display in Washington DC and setting fire to it. I do not have anywhere near the level of trust OR faith in him. He *COULD* turn out to be worse than McCain. I'm not convinced that he really is 'different' enough or for enough positive 'change'.

Would he be better than McCain? Not if he comes off with this 'out of left field' surprise capitulation to the worst of the republican party.

Believe me. We've got Jennifer Granholm here in Michigan. She stood in front of me and personally vowed to support the environment of Michigan (and shook my hand and even looked me in the eye) if she was re-elected (over Mr. Amway) and somehow I don't see fast tracking 4 new (and now potentially 7) coal fired power plants as 'supporting the environment'.

I want to play harder to get in the future. Jumping in bed with that that sings the sweetest song often isn't the best idea... If someone wants my vote, they have to earn it. THAT is why I've said that I will not vote for Obama. If that means McCain wins, then perhaps in 4 years we won't have a close race with a republican within smelling distance of the office...

I have contributed to and endorse AN/SB and all their current projects. But in the spirit of "if you can't beat them, join them", would the coalition ever consider hiring a lobbyist of their own, to take the battle for constitutionalism into the lion's den?

Lobbyists are the de facto representatives of our corporate socialist democracy. Perhaps it's time to sign up our own.

I am not persuaded that moving tens of thousands of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan is "anti-war" enough for me. I do not think the Afghans think so either, oddly enough.

I also do not think promising Israel to bomb Iran back to the 12th century just so the Israelis could control the middle east even more than they do now is "anti-war enough" for me.

Am I missing something here? Did Obama make an anti-war speech that I missed? I saw he bowed down to the Lobby and made promises -- but not any anti-war ones that I have read about.

Perhaps you mean the party itself as a whole? Congress could de-fund this abortion; but I seem to recall they gave Bush the butcher all the money he could spend on death and destruction.
