The best we can hope for, I fear, is that other countries will take on the burden of "justice", charge these criminal fascist scum masquerading as an "administration" with war crimes, and the entire corrupt crew will be unable to enter any country other than the outlaw empire USA and their employers in Dubai and other Persian Gulf states.
Which is pretty much Bush World anyway.
The Corporatist Puppet States of Empire America will keep them in luxurious retirement. And Cheney can't get to far away from his blood supply machine.
Jane Mayer to be on WashingtonPost online today (Wednesday) for Q&A-- Anonymust
Today is Tuesday. Is Jane Mayer going to be on today or tomorrow?
And now we have no defense against our own government. They can snatch us off the street and torture and kill us with impunity. They can listen to our calls and break into our homes for no reason. They have complete and total control over us and we have no protection. This country is truly over. This is not America, this is East Germany. And yet Harman and Rockerfeller will win reelection easily. Oh, and Obama is right on board with them. You just wait and see. He will out-Bush Bush. By the end of his first term there will be people fleeing the U.S. just like they are fleeing Iraq. I can't wait for the snappy new uniforms for DHS. I hear they are thinking lighting bolts for the collars. Perfect.
Just to show how this FISA Law was not a right – left issue, I think an effective way to make the more Americans understand the issue involved with FISA Bill is to show this.
If we don’t want the people to burning this symbol of our Freedom.

Why would we let congress burn these words?

Because with that damn FISA Bill that is exactly what our congress did, they burned parts of the US Constitution. Our US Flag is meaningless without the words of the US Constitution behind it. But the Republican Party, en bloc voted to eviscerate our fourth Amendment along with half the members of our Democratic Party.
That FISA Bill wasn’t just a get out-of-jail card for Bush – it was a get-out-of court free card for corporations like AT&T and Verizon when these companies violating US Constitutional laws but then needed congress to change these laws to keep from being sued. Why is it that only powerful corporation can do that? Because they have the kind of money that can used to buy off congress, when certainly, no average American could pay congress the kind of money, the kind of money that can eviscerate or I think a easy word is erase US Constitutional law.
Republican politicians are selling out our US laws to the highest bidding corporations AND that IS NOT something that is only a liberal voters concern – it is every single American out there that should be concerned with this attack on our US Constitution.
If every politician takes this oath.
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
Now I am not a Constitutional expert but isn’t AT&T and Verizon the “domestic enemy” here that wanted to attack the US Constitution and was able to do so with the recent FISA bill? So every US congressional politician who voted for this FISA Bill violate his oath of office and they did it for money?
It isn't about terrorism, it's about letting corporations break laws so politicians made-up excuses to frighten Americans enough to hide the act of allowing corporations to break laws.
I just checked one of the links you provided. Jane Mayer will be on today, Tuesday. Thanks for the heads up.
Journalist Jane Mayer will be online Tuesday, July 15 at 3 p.m. ET to discuss her new book, The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How The War on Terror Turned into a War on American Ideals,
If Congress wanted to do a bill without immunity, they very well could have rammed it down the President's throat in this environment with his approval hovering at 20%. Bush could veto it all day long, would lose the debate in the eyes of a public that can't stand the sight of him and Republicans in Congress desperately struggling to be reelected would cave in sufficient numbers to override the dipsh*t.
They didn't try to do this not because it wouldn't help their electoral prospects, but because at an individual incumbent level, it was more politically expedient- circle the wagons, scratch your buddy's back and wait for your turn is the unwritten code amongst these hacks. If by chance you do lose the election, get cushy job with million dollar salary lobbying ex-colleagues. It's like the African Union standing behind Mugabe. Do otherwise, and you set a bad precedent when your plebes are calling for your head. This is a great argument for term limits in the Congress, btw. That should because an issue for Act Blue dems.
In the same vein, I think Obama's reversal had more to do with paying back Pelosi for her help in the nomination campaign (and presumably with Democrat women) and earning him political capital with some insiders than cowering to Bush or moving to the center. As Glenn and others have pointed out, immunity for telcos is not something that would go over well in this populist political environment. I suspect Obama's team knew this, and decided not to buck the party. This is not to say he's not flip flopped on other issues, in a few cases egregiously, and that he's not a typical pol- he very much seems to be- but is just my thinking on the subject.
Also btw, Rockafeller's letter was an exercise in CYA. He had to know the VP was going to use it to wipe his backside.
