Democrats' strategy: Strength through bowing

Yet again, Democrats, in their never-ending quest to avoid looking "weak," engage in the precise behavior that guarantees that perception

"This electronic surveillance is necessary and is part of the plan that keeps us safe."

These are the words of a coward. A weak, sissy coward.

We have become a nation of shopkeepers and clerks who are afraid to walk about in our towns and cities without the government goons herding us around like the cattle we have become. Witness what Americans will put up with to fly in a plane these days.

I am seeing more and more trash like Glenn exposed on the Internet and in other places, where sniveling cowards who think the government can prevent their death (or resurrect them) by taking all freedom away.

Friends, it is the Republican Party who is weak. They are afraid of their shadow; why should Democrats emulate this emasculated weakness and act like some neuritic nanny? If a real man or woman ran for office claiming to return America to the strong, good-natured, rational, non-interventionist country of old --- the win would be an historic landslide.

But where could we find a man or woman who would say that we defend ourselves when it is needed, otherwise we leave others alone to do as they please? Hmmmm. Not one of the major candidates, as they both are little sissy boys.

Magritte's pipe

My gripe isn't with real liberals, it's with the pseudo libs. The so-called academics, the above-the-fray Dems.

The ones who specialize in media criticism economics, political polling and foreign policy who, every two and four years, take up the fight on behalf of the "real", regular liberals (i.e. Democrats).

However, based on the past decade, these people should have no street cred based on past declarations but they do.

Remember in 2000, Lieberman wasn't the best choice as a VP candidate but Gore "could have done worse," they told us on a daily basis.

How'd that turnout?

Then it was Nader's fault Gore lost Fla., all the while neglecting to note that a couple of guys named Perot and Buchanan had a little to do with the 1992 and 96 election outcomes.

In '04, Kerry was the only "electable" one and Edwards was a "no-brainer" for VP. And Howard Dean, the Anti-War candidate, was unstable.

At the time, over 70-percent of the Dem base and about 50-percent of the general population was against the War - so naturally the "smart move" was to nominate 2 guys who supported it.

How'd that turnout?

Fast forward to this year, where Bill Kristol and David Brooks with an assist from the likes of Alterman and other "smart" libs, started trumping Obama, an inexperienced, one-term U.S. Senator from the Chicago area, as the perfect Democratic candidate for Prez.

Naturally, the Kosby Kids and Fluffington Posters ate that idea up because, afterall, he wasn't Hillary and he gave good speech.

As for his platform, well, What me Worry?

Now, they are in a pickle.

Really, I hope Obama wins but right now I would consider that an upset.

But rest assured, the Repubs are running against who they wanted to run against. And now, ObamaGod has pissed off a lot of his die-hards. Well, atleast they aren't as die-hard as they were this time last week.

And remember, the Repubs haven't even started the "serious" race, Muslim, anti-American, Al Qaeda-baiting yet.

That full throttle attack won't start until the GOP Convention - with Joe Lieberman, the 2000 "Smart" Dem VP choice, having a starring role in the festivities.

John Yoo, not original

'Yoo's signature theory -- namely, that when the President orders something, then it is legal and proper, even if it's against what Congress calls "the law."'

John Yoo's views on the unitary powers of the Executive in times of a permanent national security state are hard to distinguish from Nazi legal theorist Carl Schmitt, as far as I'm concerned.

disgusted beyond belief

someone needs to convince me to vote in november, because at this point i am inclined to just stay home. i cannot vote for obama anymore. just can't do it. yes i know he will be better then Mccain but i don't care anymore. too many smart people i know think that the govt spying on us is no big deal so i say let the country get what it deserves. if they don't care, why should i? its too much to care anymore...i have a stomach ache almost everyday over this criminal, corrupt administration and the lack of anything being done about it. i am sick that they will never be held accountable. i cannot believe we are going to let them get away with it. let a repbulican win so when this country goes even deeper into hell they can't blame the democrats - although at this point they are just as responsible as the republicans.

so someone convice me - why should i vote in november?

collateral damage, another casualty

The 4th Amendment is just collateral damage in the Democrats pathological need to repeat history no matter how many times the outcome is not in their favor.

They wanted to appear "strong" on national security before the 2002 elections and how many people are now dead as a result of the war that Bush started when Congress handed him their Constitutional powers.

@ klytus - Amen, buddy.

I say once again the main project for all of us at this juncture is to elect the best folks for the U.S. House of Reps. We're going to get Pres. Obama, barring some really devastating development, like it or not.

In WA-03 it's Cheryl Crist - peace candidate, 'Fair Trade' supporter, pro-single-payer-health-insurance, anti-telecom-immunity (in other words - all the good stuff) against Brian Baird (likes The Surge, check out his healthcare insurance bill, voted for the latest FISA amendment bill, started a Friends of Jordan caucus [WTF?]). How obvious a choice is that?

Cheryl is honest, hard-working, a long-time Democratic Party activist (worked on Baird's campaign in 1998), and a Progressive to the core. Full disclosure - we were born in the same hospital in Dallas, Texas some 60 odd years ago, so there's obviously a bond there. Check out www.cristforcongress.us
