Democrats' strategy: Strength through bowing

Yet again, Democrats, in their never-ending quest to avoid looking "weak," engage in the precise behavior that guarantees that perception

Bush wants to CHA and Democrats to...

Why would a president who is leaving office shortly and knows the next president would be a democrat fight for this bill? He wants to cover his *ss. He has already gotten assurance from the spineless Pelosi and the Democrat leadership that he will not be impeached. Without this bill any revelations coming out of potential suit can change their minds and that of the public. What about the democrats? Pelosi,Hoyer et al,know Obama will be the next president. Well, they will not be held responsible if they use the same tactics to dig dirt on their political opponents the same Republicans who are gleefuly supporting this will then be cornered and they will have the last laugh.

But, wait a minute, if God forbid and by a stroke of misfortune, McCain is elected? Well, don't blame me, blame the leadership of my party the Democrat party that has assumed the fetal position ever since they were voted to majority. Their capitulation in all areas is unprecedented. Any wonder their poll numbers are near freezing point?

I got a solicitation letter from Chairman Dean yesterday to contribute to the party. I looked at the letter and shook my head. They are not doing anything to justify this letter. With Republicans anticipating to raise more than $400 million for this campaign it is going to be ugly for my party and the leadership is behaving like Ostritch with their faces firmly buried in the sand of fear and cowardice.

Vote third-party from now on

The fact that Congress, aka the "Parliament of Whores," passed the freedom-trampling FISA bill highlights the institutional corruption of the two major parties. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats care for the Constitutional basics anymore. Both parties serve the needs of the D.C. Beltway culture.

Given this reality--and things are not going to change anytime soon, if ever--why not start voting third-party? If you vote for Saint Barack of Obama, you're going to get more war, more interventionism, more big government, and warrantless surveillance. If you vote for Mad Bomber McInsane, you're going to get--well, more war, more interventionism, more big government, more warrantless surveillance.

As I say, start voting third-party.

Or, ...

As I say, start voting third-party.
Orville H. Larson

Or, just shoot yourself. It will have precisely the same effect on national politics, especially if you leave a nasty note blaming both major parties for your untimely demise.

weak!!! YES

ALL those who voted for Visa should be voted out because it shows they are weak .

By pandering to those that do support it, makes them just what the republicans want, a flip flopping group ,that they have been beating us in the past elections. ANd they have the nerve to critise the Clintons ,look who took the strong stand against the repressive Fisa bill. They are the TRUE DEMOCRATS!!

If the candidates aren't strong enough to stand up against this bill they don't deseve to be elected if thats thewir major excue for voting for this bill. I am a lifelong democrat and this is a deciding issue for many voting or mabe going somewhere else for for someone with a backbone.

garbage!!!

"This is why Dean's 50 state inititive is essential

By working to elect Democrats everywhere and to elect as many as possible instead of just calculating to win enough to get you a majority through areas you think are "winnable" you eventually get to a point where you have a supermajority and more. Once you have enough Democrats that you don't have to worry about your narrow advantage you can start to work on making the party more liberal again by engaging in serious primary battles without worrying about giving Congress back to the Republicans.

It will be much easier to get rid of the appeasers once these conditions are true."

I just read this post and can't let it go.ITS PLAIN STUPID! Why didn't the democrats that are in the senate all band together in a show of strength?? They did the impossible ,by giving the appearance that Bush was right!!I have been a DEM all my life and really always stood up for them, but this is TOO much ! You want more like these weaklings?

Re: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

Dear Senator Obama,

Thank you for your response, but the existing FISA law already protected America and did so without compromising the 4th Amendment (provided of course if the President were to have taken the law seriously in the first place). Now, the new law allows the President to listen in on any call that I make to someone outside the United States. Just exactly how does that make America safer? Moreover, if the President broke the law, which you admit to in your response, why would you give him even more unchecked power to surveil your fellow countrymen? You call yourself a patriot?

You really blew it big time by voting for this new law. You should know that in Multnomah county, Oregon, where I reside (your best hope for winning the state) I know of at least ten people who have changed their minds about you. That may not sound like many people, but the numbers can soon add up a lot faster than you could possibly realize.

I am Democrat and I have always voted as such, but I really have no faith in you now. If, by the way, you are banking on the people's fear, including my own, of a McCain presidency to vote for you, then, sad to say, you are no better than George W. Bush, who also had a nasty habit of relying on people's fear to get what he wanted.

But, as Fannie Lou Hamer so aptly put it, "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired." You think about that when the polls tighten come late October and you come crying to people like me for our votes.
