bernbart

Looks like I'm guilty of hypocrisy here.

I've been calling you bernhart.

That b looked deceptively like an h to me. bernbart. Hmmm...that doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as bernhart. Can you switch it for me? k thks, bye.

Cold Equations

Little Brother,

I've read that tale. I'm a huge sci/fi nut who routinely neglects my rather large pile of "serious reading" for the genre. No, things did not end well for Marilyn - but perhaps it will be different for Cindy Sheehan.

Just by discussing her campaign online like we are here, we help. For example, Independence_2008 and who knows who else gave $19.84 to her campaign today because they saw her web site URL in this thread.

Getting the word out is probably her hardest battle. The M$M generally ignores her and when they do cover her, they treat her like a joke.

Having the Accountability Now PAC add her to their list of supported candidates may get her even more press/exposure/contributions.

One of the things GG might think to ad to the Accountability Now PAC site is a page on how the money is being spent. They could post the WaPo ad from Tuesday, the ads running against Barrow in GA, the list of candidates/serving Senators and Congressional representatives GG posted today that they sent thousand dollar checks to, etc, etc. It might help convince more people to pledge if they saw how the money was being allocated.

Just a thought.

I booked a flight today from Austin to SFO on July 22nd. I have obligations out in the East Bay area, but will be taking the time to get back into the city to see Cindy Sheehan's Mission Street HQ and be put to work for at least an afternoon or two in what ever capacity they see fit.

I'd be happy to report what I see there in a realistic and unbiased fashion.

Peace and respect

"Reasonably Believed"

Those 2 words: "reasonably believed".

Bush, Cheney and just about any 'loyal Bushie' could drive a caravan of rhinos through that loophole.

And who's going to catch them?

Glenn, am I right? I'm ready to admit that I could be wrong...

I can see the mess now: Well, we 'reasonably believed' that Bernbart was communicating with someone outside the US.

@Yablonowitz

If you haven't noticed, below any poster's "handle" or name at the bottom of a "letter"( that's what Salon calls 'em) is the line "read bernbart's other letters". You might want to click it. You can read a few, and then decide whether your time might be better spent in other ways than arguing with someone who thinks there is a "right" and "left" interpretation to a law.

And then, Oh my Gawd, warns us about the danger of losing abortion rights! Talk about "right' and "left" interpretations!

Oh BTW, her letters on that topic are also very interesting.

YABLONOWITZ! YABLONOWITZ!

Like i said I also talked to to other attorneys,like my BOALT husband, and other attorneys who are all progressives. I also went and read some of the text myself.

Funny how many here claim to be progressive, but you rather throw the election to McCain by not voting fro Obnmam to just to get revenge.... "you will not forget". As I sad to the Hillary voters GROW UP!

As bernbart says:

We need to keep religous ideology out of medicine

bernbart

But we can't apply the same standards to privacy? You don't see them as inextricably linked? Ms. Roe did, if I recall.

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:17 PM

Fuck the summary, read the BILL

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h6304/text

And, yeah, Bu'ush will of course construe any legislative language in a twisted fashion that suits his ends. I'm sure there's quietly gonna be an HR 6304 Signing Statement that will do just that.

Derbig Mooser

Yes,

I also check on other peoples posts. I have NEVER taken a RIGHT position, and I am not a centrist. I am a progressive. I diagree about the FISA bill as do many other progressive.

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:20 PM

Derbig Mooser

Ms Roe? lol

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:21 PM

Derbig Mooser and Yablonowitz

OTOH, you can just sit back and wait for the next erudite comment to roll in. One need not read the archives. With some folks, you just give 'em a little rope, and ... well, let's just say, they do themselves proud. Proud, I tell ya!

My vote remains, either spoof or a John McCain hired troll earing points for John McCain swag.

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:24 PM

@bernbart

I really don't see what "left", "right" and/or "progressive" has to do with it.

But then, why did you say that Glenn presented a "left" discussion of FISA. I thought he presented a legal and constitutional discussion of FISA.

I ask you again: Why not apply the same standards to your privacy as you do to your abortion rights? The two are inextricably linked.

factoid

Let's not forget that John Yoo is a professor of law at the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), where he has taught since 1993.

http://www.law.berkeley.edu/faculty/yooj/

Yep, I'm waaaay impressed with like my BOALT husband. Woo-Hoo!

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:28 PM

@bystander

A big part of me wants to believe bernbart is a spoof. She is so pitch-perfect some times "My husband will explain the unecessary legal mumbo-jumbo".

It doesn't get any better!

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:30 PM

@bystander

Are the constant spelling mistakes part of the spoof, or for real? That's what I can't decide.

Thursday, July 10, 2008 07:31 PM

@bobbyg and Glenn

Yes, I have read the bill but much of it is meaningless to me. For example, something like this:

Section 403 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (50 U.S.C. 1843) is amended--

(1) in subsection (a)(2), by striking ‘48 hours’ and inserting ‘7 days’; and

(2) in subsection (c)(1)(C), by striking ‘48 hours’ and inserting ‘7 days’.

Requires cross-referencing Section 403 etc.

I sure hope someone posts an annotated version of the bill; something like a translation into English.

I do think that would help the cause greatly.

Bernbart...

Hey, whoever said to check the other letters was right.

I'm done...

You can't argue with a lunatic.

I give up...

But what would someone think of mine... Hmmm... I should quit while I'm slightly ahead...
