Cheers Mike NYWI

I read this blog often- not regulalry (so I'm willing to admit I might noot have the whole picture on the arguments) but I haven't posted here too much- and I dont recall posting directly to GG before. Partly because of the slap-downs- I'm a wuss :) BUT I think it bears repeating, even if the intention wasn't to create a litany of issues that are reversals- and it sure looks that way, that is obviously the overall affect. If that is not the intention I think GG should post another update saying so. As it stands that seems to be the argument.

And anyhow, I don't understand why anyone who is just reading this piece and hasn't been part of the conversation shouldn't post a comment- its the internet, everyone it entitled to as long as they play by the agreed upon rules. Seems rather defensive to get upset a comments that are merely disenting, not trolling.

kohoutek

You can be part of the solution or part of the problem.

That sounds familiar. Where have I heard that before? Oh, yeah:

"Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.)" -- G.W. Bush, 9/20/2001

Every voter now has a decision to make. Either you get behind Barack Obama, the Most Transformative and Greatest Man Ever -- click your heels, salute and praise him -- or you are a Far Leftist Radical, the kind of believes in search warrants and the rule of law and all sorts of radical, divisive terrorist crap like that.

People, get over Clark!

Hey, how good a job did a cocaine sniffing, skirt chasing frat boy do after being appointed president?

Being a prisoner of war isn't a 'typical' military experience. If that was the best characteristic is being a prisoner of war, then the folks that Bush has tortured should all run for president.

Every prisoner of war should run.

McCain is an old man that aside from being a POW, what else has he done? Well besides flipping on just about every issue...

Funny that this flap basically slams the 'swift boat' thing as a bad thing. Well, at the time, 'swift boated' was a good thing...

Interesting when the pants are on the other legs...

Fucking incredible hypocrisy! World class, hell galactic class...

And Clark is right. Being a POW and keeping the records secret of that whole thing is not prepratory work for being president. Not at all...

My dad was run over by a Jeep and spent months in hospital, does that qualify him for Secretary of Defense? I don't think so...

Obama and FISA

Greenwald is aboslutley right! The end NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, justifies the means. Translation: Getting elected will never justify turning his back on a blatant Constitutional transgression and the abandonment of the rule of law. Obama needs to stand up for the principles he has so eloquently espoused during the primary campaign. Being a man of principle will get him the thanks of most all Americans and get him elected. To do otheriwse is to sacrifice the very basis for his running for president.

Re: UPDATE V

Eloquence be damned, f-ing kill me.

Thanks a lot, Sen. Obama, for entirely closing off any chance you had of neutralizing that sort of poisonous rhetoric. Gen. Clark deserves better.

Back atcha CeliaInSF!

The first time I got a personalized Glenn-o-gram I felt like, wow, this guy is responsive, I like that. Then I read it and thought, wow he takes dissenting commenters damn seriously for, like, owning the blog. I was writing in about his insults in the blog itself of, well I won't go into it, but he's calling people four year olds, etc. For being for a candidate. Which the last time I checked was part of democracy, but I could be wrong. We'll see what Glenn has to say about that.

But then he went after you personally in his response! I'm stunned. But that's the deal here in Glennworld, I guess. Dissent is mercilessly dismantled by Glenn, because who would disagree with Glenn who truly understood his words!

Will Obama...

...promise us a "more humble foreign policy", like Bush did?

Has anyone ever done a study contrasting a President's campaign rhetoric and platforms with his actual actions on the job? After that "more humble" bit from Bush, it's hard to pay attention to anything a candidate says, except insofar as it relates to the campaign.

I think the biggest challenge for Obama, if elected, will be that everyone who so willingly abdicated their power or responsibility to Bush and the White House will want it back, now.

Being Independent means you are a lot more free by definition.

-- explorer

Free to what? Vacillate and seek attention? Being "Independent" in the political sense is nothing more that just having another political label. A label that is no better, no worse, nor impressive than being Republican or Democrat. It does give you an excuse and a facade to claim that you are 'independently' 'weighing your options' until the last day or so, when in fact you might be more than likely just not paying enough attention to 'weigh your options' well enough to come to some conclusions.

What really is an "Independent" in a political sense in America? Is that someone who lives above it all or in a cave and answers to no one and has no bosses, employees, or any connection to his or her fellow man/woman?

To call one self Independent in the American political sense seems like a cheap way of claiming some special place that they haven't earned by actually being "independent" in the true sense of the word.

It takes a great deal of effort, or a truly special gift in this 'cog in the works' world we live in to claim 'independence' in a way that really means anything admirable or special or unique. That word to me describes something or someone way beyond just claiming a pretentious political 'label'.
