The baseless, and failed, "move to the center" cliche

Why do Democrats continue to follow the same strategic advice that has produced one failure after the next?

The letters thread is now closed.

rufuss11. Fear? FEAR!

Tell us your Army experience. There were top-secret experimental vaccines. The troop was injected with a `adeno-virus vacines.

Often a soldier died very quickly after the experiment was conducted in the military. This is true. A military victim may get : eye failure, kidney collapse, renal failure, finger, and toe bones curled.

An experimented on poor military guy did get "weirdo" and the records were once in the Suitland, Marlyand, government archive, storage building. It's best to not go there. The West Virginian "esteemed" Rockefeller was informed via the V.A., but guess what? NOTHING.

*The virus was spelled something like that.... *adeno-virus vaccine (no relation to adonato)

`

Ever troop in the experiment performed in the 1970's is dead and at peace. The person personally did advocacy for via the V.A. died several years ago. He wore coke-rim-thick glasses, avoided sunlight, and was in/out of hospitals all his life. Old West Virginian, Richard Riley. Bless you. R.I.P.

so... it's okay to vote (or not vote) for telecom immunity because it's not worth the paper it's written on anyway....

sure, that's a principaled stance (not)

I read that this bill is almost impossible to decipher ... perhaps it need a start-from-scratch do over...

dont be surprised

Barrack Obama is just like every other politician, during the primary he decried former president clinton for triangulating, not being straight with the american people and now he is doing the same. This is our transforming leader, following the same old playbook. We hadnt seen anything yet he"ll be white before the general election is over. Sorry guys but this was as obvious as the size of his ears.

Olbermann's Special Comment Sucked

He just doesn't GET IT. The FISA amendments in the pending bill legalize warrantless eavesdropping on Americans' international communications, aside from immunity. Pace, Olbermann, no Obama should not support that aspect of the bill. And the idea that Bush wouldn't issue a blanket pardon for criminal purposes (for fear it would make him look guilty, as John Dean asserts) -- with all sort of language saying he's only doing it to save good patriots from costly criminal defense even tho they are innocent, blah, blah -- is so obviously what in fact is going to happen. But Bush can't reach civil cases, so the bill has to. Duh, Keith.

doesn't being an "officer of the court' some how stand above being a senator or a presidential candidate?

then there's that pesk oath of office (the old one, for the senate) ...

geez, it's hard to be a presidential candidate ... (sad face with tear)

Some Comments

1) Oh boy, A Greenwald Olbermann smackdown. It's great entertainment but I'm not sure how much I care.

2) Who can trust these Republicans? The corruption and lawbreaking have been breathtaking. TWO new books have been released in the last couple of weeks on the subject "Standard Operating Procedure" and "Torture Team". I think the second was written by a lawyer and his research points to high US officials breaking international human rights law. This is in addition to the run-up to the war the Valarie Plame outing and the outright corruption we brought into Iraq. The Republicans and Democrats want to stonewall on ALL of this stuff.

The common argument we hear is "trust us" we would never abuse our powers. I then go to the web and read about anti-war people who are being held up at the border. The reasons are not at all apparent and appear to be the result of their political views, in my opinion an abuse of power supported by the administration. I wonder what a real investigation would uncover.

3) One time I was the leader of a kayaking club. It was cool to have the resources of the club at my disposal to advance things I was interested in. I also encouraged discussion and ideas from the club's membership because many of my fellow paddlers had good ideas I took advantage of. I can't imagine what it would be like to have the world's most powerfull military at my disposal, with the press, and the revenues of the tax system. It's obvious that's how these people view the situation, without worrying too much about other people's needs and wishes. Who pays for all this ignorance, stupidity, and cupidity? We do!

Ouch -- that's gotta hurt -- from HuffPo -- from the Huffster - Her Own Self

Arianna Huffington: Memo to Obama: Moving to the Middle is for Losers

By running to the middle in an attempt to attract undecided swing voters, the Obama campaign is making a very serious mistake. Tacking to the center is a losing strategy. It didn't work for Al Gore in 2000. It didn't work for John Kerry in 2004. And it didn't work when Mark Penn convinced Hillary Clinton to do it in 2008. Fixating on -- and pandering to -- this fickle crowd is all about messaging tailored to avoid offending rather than to inspire and galvanize. And isn't galvanizing the electorate to demand fundamental change the raison d'etre of the Obama campaign in the first place? Watering down that brand is the political equivalent of New Coke. Call it Obama Zero.

Weren't there people here saying the opposite ... that immunity COULD apply to criminal charges

but not to Civil liability ...

No kind of liability is going to be possible without the cooperation of various agencies ... I sorta figured this "immunity" was to stop the discovery process in its tracks.... since TeamBush and "THE OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY" have Starbucks and Pizza Hut takeout orders stamped "classified" at this point.

But, but, but...

But the strategists will get it right, sometime...

Hell, they have to. They've gotten so much practice... Maybe this time, this candidate... Maybe...

Fixating on -- and pandering to -- this fickle crowd is all about messaging tailored to avoid offending rather than to inspire and galvanize.

BULLSHIT! If you can't be seen in public standing next to me what makes you think I'll actually vote for your simpleton ass? HUH!?!?!

"Weren't there people here saying the opposite ... that immunity COULD apply to criminal charges"

If there were any such, they were wrong about what the bill in question actually would do. It never, by its plain terms, applied to criminal prosecutions.

A presidential pardon is all that is needed for that.

usxpat re: "Torture Team"

Written by Phillipe Sands,

...an international lawyer who has been involved in many of the most important interantional torture cases, including Pinochet, Charles Taylor, and the British detainees at Guantanamo...

I'm reading it now. For another blog with significant analysis on the torture issue click my sig.

I found myself offering up an "Amen!" multiple times while reading your post.
