The baseless, and failed, "move to the center" cliche

Why do Democrats continue to follow the same strategic advice that has produced one failure after the next?

The letters thread is now closed.

@ nicteis

Aside from shooter42, no one here is attacking Barack Obama. Most of us continue to be committed to voting for him.

Kneejerk thinking is dangerous. I'm on record as voting for O.

I'm embarrassed, but thanks.

Hadn't checked back here.

Shooter

Quite so, which cements the reality that 9/11 was concieved, planned, and prepped before Bush came to office. That is to say, on Clinton's watch.

-- shooter242

No shit, Sherlock. That's why Richard Clark's hair was on fire when he kept trying to get the Bush Administration to take up the alarm mantle that the Clinton Administration had been following by having strategy meetings on an almost daily basis. But Attorney General Ashcroft didn't want to hear any more about the subject. Condi Rice didn't know who the Osama bin Laden was and didn't want to know, and of course George W. Bush told the 'messenger' that now that he had "covered his ass" he could go the f'k away and leave Bush to his golf games.

Tsk.

It's a pity Bush ignored it. Heh. -- Jebbie

What's the matter? You don't think the 70 FBI investigations mentioned in the PDB were enough? Duh.

The Democratic leadership has only themselves to blame!

@rufus11 & mcquaidla

But the truth fault is the clinton, di fi, reid, rockafeller, sell-out for profit or power, dems. mcauliffe is small beans.

That's a good point...though I'm not sure. My feeling is that once elected, even well-meaning senators move into "the bubble," and start overly relying on their advisors to tell them "what the people think." Same with presidents and presidential candidates. Well, that is unless you're Republican. Then you do whatever the h*ll you want and d*mn the little people. The role of your advisors then becomes pure SPIN: to clean up the messes, appear on the talking head shows, and put the right words into your mouth.

I'm starting to worry that mcquaidla might be right. The Dems seem tfirmly on their way down the path of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory."

And to those trying to blame Greenwald or Salon, get real! Using the "move to the right" strategy has cost the Dems 7 of the last 10 presidential campaigns to Republicans--and that's up against abysmal Republican candidates like Reagan and Bush-2! The Democratic leadership has only themselves to blame.

That's the price you pay for being a congenital, pathological liar.

we are not like the gop. We are free thinking individuals

Not clone borg cultists, like you clinton backers (gop).

think for yourself, tough guy. Stop worrying about sounding like everyone else, or what everyone else thinks. I don'[t care about you, clinton bobble head. Why do you care about me. If you can touch my posts, please do. If all you got is peanut gallery bottom feeeding, then to that. Just know I do not value the gop's opinions, as they do not value mine. That ship has sailed. "Your either with us or agaisnt us". I didn't say that. I didn't wage war on america and patriotic americnas.

That "us" is fascism. That "us" is traitors. If you want to talk up to them and beg for approval that's your problem. I'll continue fighting them. People like you told me obama had no chance. It was going to be rudy, remember? Then it was going to be clinton, remember?

You've been right so far. don't let me and my truth stop you from propgoating and creating false realities now. What your doing, gop, is working so well. hahahahhaha

Monday, June 30, 2008 12:06 PM

Great piece

Once again, the analysis is dead-on. Please keep it up, hopefully someone in the Obama camp is listening. McCain and the Republicans have already figured it out.

Monday, June 30, 2008 12:14 PM

@ Chris Sinnard & Jebbie

I believe rufus to be unwell. Whenever I see "gop" I just keep scrolling. Some folks are beyond reason.

A concise way to describe the difference between parties

While drinking a dark beer with my local drinkingliberally.org group, I thought about a simple way to describe the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Republicans think- “My party right or wrong!”

Democrats think- “My party wrong or right?”

In this election cycle, Independents think- “With so many advantages, will the stupid Democrats find a way to clutch defeat from victory?”

Monday, June 30, 2008 12:17 PM

poor rufus11

I'll take your peanut gallerying for what it's worth. Not much?

It's worth about as much as Omaba's promises and change meme. You make this passionate statement about how Obama is going to clean house and not let powerful interests from outside of our Government influence us... so I guess you missed Obama's AIPAC groveling? Or how Obama is so principled, except for those increasingly more frequent bouts of cognitive dissonance his worshipers feel when he does things that show he is not. It's cute how his supporters resolve it though, with this "it's all part of that crafty Obama's Master Plan to Change the Universe" rhetoric.

You people are so cool. how can I be a sell-out closet republcain like you?

Closet Republican? Wouldn't that imply that I am pretending to be, am, is, or was, a Democrat? Or that I support the Democratic Party? Or that I even support Democracy? Or that I was foolish enough to believe that the Democrats were an "Antiwar Party", in 2006 for example, and not just "Antiwar Enough", like some of the regular posters describe the Democratic Leadership (i.e. Pelosi)?
