Macaca[1] is a pejorative epithet used by francophone colonialists in Central Africa's Belgian Congo for the native population.
Allen's mother is French Tunisian. He speaks French. He knew what he said. And he wasn't being complimentary. And the only folks who couldn't smell the racism were the ones who'd been marinating in it themselves.
I'm beginning to know who the older folks are around here...the ones that are old enough to remember the Nixon pardon by Ford.
I don't remember ever being taught about it, other than it happened. Maybe that's still the case today outside of law school.
ummm...a pardon is only for a crime that has been given a sentence..
You must have been paying attention to something else when Ford pardoned Nixon.
Allen said "macaca", YOU'RE the one saying it's racist. There's a huge difference.
If someone called me a cracker in anger, only the most obtuse would suggest that it meant that I was buttery smooth, or a nice toasty golden color.
To suggest that Allen would make up a word that just happens to be a slur against brown people used by people with his mother's heritage, is not believable.
I lived in Hawaii, I know many racist terms that are well known there, that are not here. Terms for whites, japanese, portuguese, phillipinos, blacks, etc., you name it. If someone used those terms to describe anyone, I'd know what they meant, even if you didn't. It doesn't mean it's not offensive and immature.
Please don't run by a gold fish pond while you are reading FISA scrolls, and biting your red finger nails.
I was tempted to ask you for some safety pin` hints : I was gonna say, ` It's hard to hop through a garden, and pick weeds if your painting the toe nails at the same moment. Get YKW to start posting.
Next time we are in a 5-star restaurant, please, don't order chocolate milk!. Or, pilfer: the
chair, silverware, napkins, pepper shakers, salt, and the sugar packets. Please never insist the bartender's read UT on the payroll.
No trip with a finger in the mouth.
I remember a Windy gop scandal.
o~ Stay away from jail cell ponds.
No fall to drink from a fish pond.
I'm looking forward to KO's special comment and hope/expect he has done his homework.
Obama's position should not be a surprise. Globalists are driving this bus and you can't get onboard, otherwise. He would not be where he is if he did not embrace expansionism - plus the requisite assault on civil liberties.
His overt pandering to AIPAC following his nomination, plus his rhetoric regarding 'The Homeland' is quite troubling - and illustrative.
Since the early 80's or before they've had their eyes on the prize, the ME, for oil and power and supremacy. Just ask his foreign policy pal, Zbigniew Brzezinski.
Right now, it is Obama's role as 'good cop' to do an end around the will of the American people, putting the final nails into the coffin of the republic.
Iran is on deck. I honestly hope they are as smart as they think.

Are you trying to scare the pants off of me? (Jebbie, Pedinska, and GC: all mooning aside.) If so, believe me, it's working.
Unfortunately, I've not been involved in any community gardening projects, but it's something I'd like to do in the future. I couldn't find much online either for either of those communities, though I'm positive they must have them.
I enjoy your posts Glenn -- I don't care what Olbermann has to say about you. Keith must get a lot of his research from his staff -- while you, with your educational & professional background, probably do most of your research yourself.
Anyway, I completely agree with your notion that Democratic candidates, particularly on the national level, always seem to float towards the center to attract more independent, moderate voters. HOWEVER, as you point out, it is by and large an unsuccessful strategy -- particularly in the context of the 2008 election. Congress and the President have ALL-TIME LOW APPROVAL RATINGS. With the wave of frustration resulting in a Democratic sweep in 2006 and record turnout during the Primary, it is clear people want to drastically change the way Washington operates.
Along comes Obama saying he will fundamentally change the way Washington operates, but as soon as he secures the Democratic nomination, he alienates his core support (far left and traditional left leaning voters) by reversing himself in fundamental issues of our time: handguns, campaign finance, FISA and Iraq troop pullouts.
If Obama thinks he will not lose votes using this strategy, he is sorely mistaken. He will get in trouble with the moveon.orgs of the world, and he will seem wishy-washy and fake to independents, and Republicans aren't going to vote for him anyway, so what is there to gain?
As a disenfranchised Republican, I gave Obama a chance and liked some of his positions, but despite what he claims, I can see through his shiny veneer and see him for what he is: a flip-flopping politician looking for any kind of advantage to increase his popularity while forsaking his core beliefs.
Superb, just superb!
I wish I could write like that.
I'd like to save and share it when appropriate, if that's OK with you.
Well done.
The leadership was blamed for protecting Foley not pushing him out....
Yes, they protected him. Until his nasty little secret became public. Then they got rid of him. You're talking pre-revelation. I'm talking post. Once their hypocritical preaching on sexual morality had been revealed as the noxious gas it was, and sacrifices were deemed to be necessary, Vitter was the only one not pressed to take one for the team.
Allen said "macaca", YOU'RE the one saying it's racist. There's a huge difference.
Yes, me and a lot of the people who voted him out of office. There is some historical record behind the term. Allen didn't just make it up on the spot. The fact that you are indifferent to said history tells me you're not much different than Allen.
