Thank you Democrats. Keep it up and I won't have any reason to vote come November. What a bunch of jackasses.

Tomorrow, we will be taking up the FISA bill. As you probably know, the bill has been filed. It is a balanced bill. I could argue it either way, not being a lawyer, but nonetheless, I could argue it either way. But I have to say this about it: it's an improvement over the Senate bill and I say that as a strong statement.
She could argue it either way, but sees fit to mention she is not a lawyer?! So what? Many congresspeople are not. But if one does not understand legislation and what it means -- due to the lack of a JD or whatever -- one ought not be in the position of passing it.
Duh.
Johnathan Turley and Keith Olbermann were spot on in their discussion about this awful bill.-- pmorlan
Yes, they were. And it was so easy and sensible. That is why I wish that Glenn would find some televised venue that would allow him to speak without compromising his and our message and integrity. Johnathan Turley is the best example that I know of who makes me think that Glenn could put the word out on The TV without just blowing bubbles into the wind.
That wasn't directed at you. Several commenters have been excerpting the "Obama kicking the baby in the face" comment, which was pretty funny, and it was directed more at them and the thousands of others who still have illusions about politics and principles co-existing in the real world. When lions lay down with lambs (or perhaps when lions are no longer led by donkeys is also appropiate).

Just caught Turley on Olbermann. He pretty much confirmed what I said a few days ago about Dem just rope a doping us. I do not enjoy being this cynical. Anyway, no hard feelings, I hope.

I think you misunderestimate me.
Never! Do you know where to find that study, with the BoR disguised? I'd love to have it on-line.
And did you see my comment on the last thread, tail end?
I think you have a new "fan".
Check it out.
Telecoms are limited by law like everyone else from contributing to campaigns. By taking money of that amount and directing it to a few districts, it is possible to torpedo some of these people.-- GlennGreenwald

"What's particularly amazing about this whole process is that the House leadership unveiled this bill for the first time today -- and then scheduled the vote on it for tomorrow. No hearings. Nothing. They all have less than 24 hours to "read" the bill and decide whether to eviscerate the rule of law and the Fourth Amendment."
it is, i think, instructive to review a portion of this press release from pelosi's office (my bolds):

Pelosi: ‘We Will Create the Most Open and Honest Government in History’
Wednesday, January 18, 2006
Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter of New York, and Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, unveiled Democrats’ “Honest Leadership, Open Government Act,” which will restore honesty, integrity, and openness to government. Below are Pelosi’s remarks as prepared.
“Good afternoon. It is fitting that we gather in the building of the Library of Congress named for Thomas Jefferson, the author of our Declaration of Independence. Today, Democrats are here to make a Declaration of Independence from special interests.
-snip-
“The intention of our Founding Fathers was for Congress to be a marketplace of ideas. The Republicans have turned Congress into an auction house – for sale to the highest bidder. You have to pay to play. It is just not right.
“Democrats are leading the effort to turn the most closed, corrupt Congress in history into the most open and honest Congress in history.
“That is why, with our Democratic Declaration of Honest Leadership and Open Government, we are pledging to enact and enforce legislation that will:
“When it comes to contracting and cronyism, we intend to:
“These are tough standards, but they are just the beginning. We are prepared to do even more.
“If we are to have true reforms, two things need to happen: We must have strong enforcement, with an active and functioning Ethics Committee. That is why last week I wrote to Speaker Hastert asking him to join me in urging the Ethics Committee to begin investigations immediately. Second, if and when the Speaker brings reform legislation to the floor, an open rule is absolutely essential. A new era of openness can only begin if we debate the reforms in an open manner.
“Taken together, Democratic proposals will lead this country in a new direction, put an end to business as usual, and make certain this nation's leaders serve the people's interest, not the special interests.
“Ours must be a government ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people.’ That means all of the American people. Republicans have made it a government of, by, and for a few of the people. America can do better. We can and we will. With this agenda, Democrats will create the most open and honest government in history, and put power back where it belongs – in the hands of all the people. Together, America can do better.”
