George Bush's latest powers, courtesy of the Democratic Congress

Congress is going to decree that the president has the power to order private citizens to break the law, as well as to spy on our telephone calls and e-mails with no warrants.

The letters thread is now closed.

If I Could Vote ...

I would vote and I would vote for Obama. Why? Even if for no other reason, because there is no way in hell I could stand aside and give McCain the chance to nominate not just one, but potentially two or even three Supreme Court justices. If we think it's bad now, imagine what it will be like with a Supreme Court that consists of Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Thomas, Scalia, Scalia, Scalia ...

I may not give them my money, but if I could, I would give them my vote.

Here's a line to take on amnesty and spying

http://daltonator.net/durandal/blog/?p=129

The new FISA law will allow Bush, Cheney and the rest of their perverts, criminals and thugs to read your e-mails and listen to your phone calls. And those of your family and friends. Supposedly, this is to stop “terrorists”, but given the large number of creeps, perverts and psychopaths working for the Cheney-Bush Junta, what assurance do you have that your kids’ e-mails and phone calls aren’t going to be passed around to the likes of Congressman Mark Foley, who was caught cyberstalking adolescent boys, of Jeff Gannon and who knows how many others just longing to grease up their palms and spread their Guckert all over your family’s privacy? None. In fact, it’s almost a certainty that your privacy will be sold or given away if it hasn’t already.

Call your senators and ask them to filibuster this abomination.

Nader is right

There is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. They are all about keeping power for themselves. Bush may be the worst president in history, but virtually everything he's done has been supported by the likes of Nancy "impeachment is off the table" Pelosi, Harry "Lieberman is with us on everything but the war" Reid, Chuck "I support Mukasey" Schumer, Steny "Spying on Americans is okay" Hoyer, etc etc etc. These people are sick.

The big liar (slightly edited and reposted)

Another thing,

To actually get into a position to minimize the influence of money in politics, we have to get people of a mind to do so elected. -- LWM

Yes, I know what you think. I know that is your belief. You are why I fear for the future of this country. Not BushCo, not Pelosi, not Hoyer...YOU.

----------------------------

Hear ye hear ye......

LWM and those who believe as he does are attempting to sell you a lie. He and those like him are doing you as great a disservice as the BushCo's, Pelosi's and Hoyer's. He and his ilk know full well that it is the system, as it has been gamed by the corporate/MIC establishment and willing politicians, that is now the root of our problems. LWM wants to work "within" that system to bring about change. How many times have we heard that before? Ask yourself -- how often does that work? How many politicians have said those very words during their campaigns?

More and better politicians of any stripe are not the answer for two simple reasons. First, we will never be able to elect enough of them all at once to affect serious change in the short term. It will not happen and you all know that. Secondly, because we can not elect enough of them this round, those that we are successful in electing will either be compromised and/or marginalized by the time we are able add to their number with even "more and better." Do you see the "one step forward, two steps back" aspect of it all? You must see it.

There have been people saying and attempting what he proposes for the entirety of our history as a nation. What has been the result? What has been the outcome? You are watching it. You are living it. You are "fighting" it right now. If you follow his lead you and your progeny will be doing it for decades more and your children and their children will end up right where you are now (if they are that lucky). The entire thing has become a vicious cycle of vote and be screwed, vote again and be screwed again...over and over. Simply voting and hoping is not only unrealistic it is harmful.

The LWM's of this world are not for change. They are selling you a lie. Their plan, as shown in the blockquote above, is an absolute fantasy that will bring about little to no change in the long term. He is in effect asking you to believe him or your lying eyes. Don't let him do it to you.

By all means, do go out and vote for who you think is best but do not kid yourself into believing LWM's fantasy. And do not kid yourself into thinking that 3 ad campaigns directed at wayward politicians (who are supposed to be representing you and are instead representing themselves and their corporate paymasters) are going to have a great impact in the long run. It looks like we are going to lose this telecom amnesty battle and that is truly tragic. This experience should be just another signal to us that, if we truly want change, we might as well force the issue with the group of politicians we already have. If we want real change we will have to force the issue at some point, so why not now? There is no better time to get started than the present.

I am not advocating or calling for violence here. I am asking that we collectively wake up and take a bodily stand. The only kind of stand that will scare the establishment. They should be scared of us, not the other way around.

@Ron

F'g democrats, they really should be ashamed to hold any office these days.

But they AREN'T ashamed. They are fat, rich, and happy because no matter what they do, you (collective you, not necessarily you specifically) vote for them again and again ANYWAY. Why NOT keep up the same old shit? They get away with it, get back into office and make the big bucks by selling their votes to the highest corporate bidder. Again and again.

But by all means, keep rewarding this behavior by voting for them because they are the "lessor of two evils". Except that they aren't. They do PRECISELY the same thing that the GOP does, but instead of being forthright about what they are going to do, they promise that they wont only to secretly go off into the dark corners to do it in secret (whenever possible).

Funny how when the GOP is in charge, the Dems can't do anything because they aren't in charge but when the Dems are in charge the GOP is STILL in charge.
