1. Change back my voter registration from Democratic to Independent.
2. No more money for Democrats (or Repubs.) Henceforth, only for specific issue-based orgs, like GG's civil liberties coalition.
3. I'll vote for a Democratic President in the Nov 2008 elections. No other Democrat, and no Republican. My vote is available to 3rd parties; we desperately need a viable 3rd party.
Only when we voters can triangulate 3 parties against each other will we voters matter to the parties. Right now, they have the attitude - just what are you going to do? Not vote Democratic?
The House recessed before 2:45 p.m., supposedly to enable the leadership to "prepare" the Iraq supplemental, according to C-SPAN. They were still out as of 4:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the House Rules Committee adjourned at some point after 2 p.m., only to reconvene starting at 3:15 p.m., to adopt a floor rule for a revised Iraq supplemental amendment. [No sign of a FISA revision to the supplemental being the revision at issue.]

Reports containing the Iraq and FISA rules have yet to be issued by the Rules Committee (I don't think they will be one package, but we should know soon). Apparently, once they have been issued, the House will then be reconvened to do its worst. [I had hoped that principled Democrats - more loyal to Constitution and country than to a political party - had moved to adjourn the House in an attempt to put obstacles in the way of these party leadership machinations, but apparently that was not the cause of the temporary recess.]

As an aside: All talk of "third party" (or better yet, independent, no-party) candidates for federal office should differentiate between the presidency (which instantly brings cries of the "Nader" effect) and Congress, as Glenn's effort clearly does. The national obsession and empowerment of the presidency far beyond its actual mandate under the Constitution - as constantly advanced by the national media and now even by Congress itself - obscures the role (and threat to the status quo) that candidates not beholden to the two-party system could and would play in Congress, if more were elected.
Glenn, et al.
Great job with the campaign. I donated a small amount right after it started.
Here's my suggestion now that Hoyer and the rest of the traitors have done their part:
Give all the money to Feingold or someone like him to put a hold on the bill tomorrow!!
You were called an Authoritarian by LWM. Congratulations, you've made it. The Authoritarian Status Quo Standing Army Central Banking Imperial Apologist known as LWM uses that label when LWM disagrees with you. Has the bigot LWM called you a bigot yet? Or a Conspiracist?
You seem upset with the system. Well, don't worry, in case you haven't noticed, the Empire is collapsing. The dollar is dieing, the war machine is broken, and the criminal banksters speculative tricks aren't working. The important part is what happens after.
Vote for whoever you want, but anyone who votes for McCain is just stupid. There will also be multiple people for the establishment nuthuggers to blame this time, like Barr and Nader. Each side will have their punching bag.
I'm a Peace Corps volunteer working in Romania. It's Thursday, about 11:00PM here and I've spent the last five hours locked into various blogs and sites re. FISA. Like most everyone here I'm sickened and outraged...I've been a Progressive activist for 40 years and it looks like the Dems may - once again - prove to be nothing more than the lesser of two evils. And that isn't good enough! But it IS heartening to know that Glenn's doing his usual stellar work on this issue and that many of you are rallying to the cause. It's frustrating being 7,000 miles away with nothing but my laptop so I'm trying to make the most of it: emailing Pelosi, Obama, et al, exhorting my friends in the States to join the fight and donating to ActBlue. We need to put the Dems' feet to the fire on this one. This one is our Constitutional line in the sand and we cannot let them cross it!
Your right on this issue. I was wrong. We must not become the gop. We must hold our own to account when/where they did not. No accountability and credibility killed the gop. We must not do the same thing.
I contacted obama's campaign and urged them to stand strong.
I just think to put this issue on obama is nuts. It is a major issue. Shoot, everything I type is probably watched so this is a major issue to me, beign so outspoken. But we must take the good with the bad, while holding ours to account. The major change an obama presidency would ensure would be so massive, this would pale in comparision. But still.
thanks for being real glen. Peace out. Keep up the good fight. sorry for my ignorance. We are all onyl human.
Have you taken responsibility for the last 8 years? No? Well don't expect us to take responsibility when either of the two establishment candidates gets elected. They aren't our guy. Wear it.

Taken responsibility for the first four years?
And I'm curious to know who your "guy" was this year?
And who was it in in 2004? And let me pose a question.
Didn't you agree that any "anti-establishment" candidate becomes corrupted by "The Establishment" as sson as he is incorprorated into The Borg? And what make you think those "principled stands" of the "non-establishment" candidates are anything more than shrewd political calculations? They have nothing to lose by adopting them. It does not get them elected often, does it? There are often reasons for that other than grand conspiracies and manipulation by "Evil Establishment Forces". Some are just not qualified in a very real sense. Then there is the issue of democracy and popular support. For some reason many people like Obama. They may like him for silly and foolish reasons but that's democracy. You just don't care for it much.
